1931709 tn?1335833095 I'm just curious if I choose not to have an epidural during delivery, will they still be willing to give me pain meds with an iv? I don't want an epidural, but I would be willing to take something to take the edge off! Any thoughts or stories of natural child birth?
Avatar m tn I recently underwent a lumbar epidural block. Being in EMS for over 8 years, I naturally wanted to know what medications would be given prior to the procedure and in what quantity. I was informed that I would be receiving 2mg of Versed, and 50mcg of Fentanyl; both IVP. I have never taken anything stronger than tramadol for pain, so I expected to get significant relief from the fentanyl during the procedure.
Avatar f tn Besides an epidural, what else can they give you for pain? My first birth the epidural did not work at all so I'm not going to bother getting it again. Any help is appreciated!
1901977 tn?1333991726 Does anybody have any recommendations about how not to move when they're giving you an epidural? I'm getting closer to the end so starting to think more about the actual delivery.
Avatar f tn t help me anymore he referred me to pain management. I recieved an cervical epidural on Septmber 21st...... and that didnt work either(that doctor told me after the 3rd epidural that i would need surgery).I did not go through with anymore epidurals because my parents wanted another opinion. After a year and a half in pain, and seeing numerous doctors(10).....I am very close to solving the mystery.
Avatar f tn With my first everyone told me I wouldn't be able to deliver without an epidural, I did end up having a shot of fentanyl.
2079360 tn?1337016057 Does the epidural hurt? I was just watching a video on it and I don't think I like it!!
Avatar f tn I did this drug called stayadol not spelled right but spelt how it sounds. It was not good for me I did 2 doses in an 8 hr period I think and it made me so sick it was Like being blackout drunk and dizzy I couldn't sleep because I thought I was going to stop breathing (I have a form of sleep apnea) and I feel that it affected my bodies ability to be ready for labor made me really groggy. Long story short I will not be doing it with this one. These are only my experience with it.
Avatar f tn 25 mcg/hr is often the starter dose of Fentanyl. They do make 12.5 mcg/hr patches that contain 12 mcg/hr Fentanyl but this lower dose is fairly new. I am also on the Fentanyl patch, dosed at 50 mcg/hr. I take 10 mg oxycodone IR as needed for breakthrough pain. So another thing to assess is if your pain level is consistently high throughout the day or if it is only high during certain periods of the day.
1855076 tn?1337115303 ve faced discrimination with CP patients. I switched from my first PM clinic because they had me on a boatload of meds (Fentanyl, oxycodone, Ativan, and Ambien.) I was way overmedicated. They insisted I needed them. So I took off the Fentanyl patch (not knowing what I was in for. I don't recommend CT off it.) I then went into pain management that was connected to my primary care. Initially they took me way down to a low dose, at my request.
8793709 tn?1409594060 I don't want an epidural either, i believe they can give you something called Fentanyl in your IV,I've heard good things about it.
5597890 tn?1370629516 New pain doc increased my fentanyl patch to 50. And is trying a different type of epidural and seems more aggressive in helping me get my back fixed than the other who I felt like just a number. has anyone been on these patches ? Why Oxycodone 15 mg if I'm on this super strong patch. I've obviously built up a tolerance to pain meds. I noticed withdrawals when trying to stop the oxycodone even with the patch on. I assume I will be on this stuff for another 2 + months.
Avatar f tn My contractions intensified as they do and that is when the anesthesiologist came in and gave me my epidural. I laid in the bed laboring for a couple of hours and when the nurse checked me--- she said I was at 10 and that it was time to get 'started' pushing. Doctor and husband and labor and delivery nurses (bless them) all helped me and I pushed and had our baby boy. :>) But that is just my experience. Your induction will go fine hon. Don't be scared!
7879163 tn?1411591644 I had a great talk with my OB and she said that she doesn't dose the epidural with any pain medication, which I'm completely happy about no painkillers. I'd watched on a few childbirth videos where they mixed in fentanyl with the epidural and the women were itchy and I'm not good with itchy! It really sounds like she was either extremely exhausted and/or had a pain medication in with the epidural.
Avatar f tn The only other thing I could suggest is the Fentanyl patch. What I assume you mean by slow release morphine is MS Contin, which is a very powerful drug, especially at 100mg. I have worked with a lot of patients that once put on the Fentanyl patch, finally felt releif. But it's not for everyone, the nausea symptoms of narcotics can be more intense. This is a 72 hour patch that you apply to your skin every three days.
7486246 tn?1391323511 So anesthesia came in and attempted to do a walking epidural. It was a no go, he came back and attempted 3 more times, and again no goes each try in a new place, by time he said its not happening I was already at 7cm. So they rushed to get me some IV pain meds called Fentanyl. It began working by my third contraction. I stalled at 7cm for a bit but made it to 9cm within the hour, I had a second dose of Fentanyl and awaited 10 cm.
Avatar f tn I have had 8 babies and have had an epidural with some and not with others. I personally like the epidural. I get to relax and it has never stalled my labor. Because I am able to relax, my babies come pretty quickly. But it can (stall labor) so I recommend if you get one, to wait until you are about half way dialated at least. And like others have said, it works for some and not as well for others. Or sometimes it works for a while and then wears off. That too has happened to me.
Avatar f tn I have been in pain for 7 years, with a plate in c5-6, in constant pain I am on oxycodone 10mg 4xdaily soma 350mg 4xdaily naproxen 500mg 2xdaily lorazepam 2mg 4xdaily Pls help with the pain I go to pain clinic to get cervical epidural but no more. I have had 4 of them and 52 trigger injections in 2 visits. Any Help? mscontin and fentanly i was on but was afraid to have to go up the ladder so I tappered off.
Avatar m tn He everyone I'm new on here I just switched from fentanyl to methadone and I was wondering which generic was the best, when it came to my fentanyl Duragesic was far and away the best, just trying to get the biggest bang for my buck
Avatar n tn I began taking it even when I did not need it for pain and became addicted and tolerant to the medication... About 5 months ago, I got on Fentanyl Patches at 25mcg then increased it to 50, and now am on 75... I need to get off this and tried last month and I couldn't, it was too hard... My question is, what is the right way to get off of the Fentanyl without wanting to die. I am a registered nurse and am getting my nurse practitioner degree and will be done with my masters degree shortly...
1644508 tn?1301001315 I had to have an emergency c-section a couple months ago.. and 1st, they ended up deciding to use fentanyl in my epidural bcs the anesthesiologist told me the suboxone does not enter the spinal cord, and should help at least some, without making my brain too fuzzy. (it did help-though my mind DID get somewhat fuzzy) and then 2nd.. after the c-section they continued giving me injections (via vein instead) over the course of the next couple days...
Avatar f tn Again will have an epidural....and i love and trust my midwife so what ever she decides (being induced or god forbid complications arises and need a c-section) i will do!
3039221 tn?1340461200 3 months ago an MRI revealed buldging discs (L4/5 and S1) and I have been taking Oxycodone and receiving epidural injections (which do not help). The pain is only getting worse all the time. My Neuro said I cannot be helped by surgery, but I have made an appointment with an Ortho to confirm that opinion. A few weeks ago he added Morphine to my meds, but the pain is simply increases every day.
Avatar f tn 5 cm when they checked me and I got a shot of fentanyl before being moved into a real room and getting my epidural. 30 minutes later I was fully dilated but my son was turned the wrong way so had to spend 4 hours pushing to try to turn him before his head got stuck. Since he wasn't in any destress the doctor had me stop pushing and just let my body labor on it's own for two hours while she did a c-section on a different patient.
Avatar f tn I detoxed off of Fentanyl 1 year and 1/2 ago and it was the worst pain and hell of my life! Ive detoxed off Norco 10/325 and Loratab 10's and that was a walk in the park compared to Fentanyl. Fentanyl is 100x stronger than Morphine and 50x stronger than Heronin. It is the strongest Narcotic in the world. Fentanyl has its own weird/horrible withdrawal symtoms. Ask anyone who has detoxed off it! Fentanyl takes about a week for the severe w/d's and reg. w/d's last a good month.
1067022 tn?1257773762 Second, Do you think my tolarence to (benzos) Klonopin made the FENTANYL not work? Anyone heared of Klonopin blocking FENTANYL from working? During the IV I heard the nurse tell the doctor uneasly we are already up to either 100mcg or 1000mcg (if I heard it right). Any thoughts?
1935851 tn?1332348173 Exactly! I mean I'll probably end up with an epidural when the pain gets too bad. I just feel like it makes me a bad person since women throughout history have done it completely natural and had three to eight children if not more.
