Avatar f tn I have been on 100 mugs for about a year 1/2 and want to have the dr lower me safely . So should I attempt this now? Or wait and see after surgery. And even after surgery try my best not to use anything more for breakthrough pain unless I am out of my mind in pain . I know all these meds have taken my quality of life go way down.
Avatar f tn What should i do taper myself to a quarter a day and then not do any the day before and of the surgery? What should i do and will i be ok if i do that?
Avatar n tn I have been on Fentanyl patches for about 6 months and it was prescribed to wean me off of Norco 10/325 2 pills 4 x day after a surgery. I got as high as 75 mcg patch of Fentanyl every 3 days and then I developed some kind of allergy. The Pain Dr. says the allergy is to the adhesive, not the fentanyl. I am now down to 37 mcg every 2 days because the patches itch like crazy. I wake up in the morning and my patches are scratched off(even withTagederm) and there is blood on my sheets. My Dr.
Avatar f tn I started to work out, dropped all the weight gained from the Fentanyl and the other 8 meds I needed to take due to the side effects of the Fentanyl, and now am on two patches (50 and 12) and on a razors edge as pain goes. Recently had heaps of dental work done. Crowns replaced, amalamates removed etc and my THS went through the roof. The hospital over-seer will not approve my back surgery ( all cardio bloods etc are EXCELLENT) and everyone is amazed I am 65 years old. What is going on?
1364139 tn?1280791344 I would call the orthopedic surgeon office who is doing the surgery and ask them what they think. I'm sure if your pain doctor told you to keep it on, it's probably ok, but you will need to make sure you tell the anesthesiologist about it to keep your pain under control and the medications that they use are correct. I'm in the same situation, I use a fentanyl patch and am having surgery next Wednesday. I've been given no information on whether to wear it or not.
306867 tn?1299249709 I think people talk about their GB surgeries or upcoming surgery for fear of the need of pain control and not relapsing. Just my humble opinion.
Avatar m tn I stopped taking my Suboxone strips for 24hrs. Went into immediate surgery. They gave me Fentanyl, several hydromorphone doses, and a benzo. Got out of the hospital waited 12hrs took my Suboxone. Been taking it for a week. Still feeling surgery effects and I have these weird withdrawl like symptoms. One minute the hairs on my neck stand up, the next im sweating only minor, then I get nausea, then I feel shaky. Its been 8 days since surgery.
5447621 tn?1368108821 I feel like a need a weighed-suit to sleep in at night with the RLS and withdrawing from Fentanyl patches (had surgery 3 months ago, and now finishing the last process of getting off the medication). What horrible sensations!! I ended up finding relief sleeping on my hard bedroom floor. I need to feel pressure on my body for it to settle down. Any tips??
Avatar f tn I am on fentanyl 75 mg patch xanax 2 three times a day and percocet. My patch burst and I dont know if I should put on another or not I just started these.
Avatar f tn i have 5 herniated discs and am on 100mcg fentanyl patch and i an still in pain. is there anything more effective?
Avatar m tn It started when I broke my heal and because I was morbidly obese as well my doctor kept me on the and sence then, a gastric bypass, two separate hernia operation, one exporitory surgery of my stomach bypass andt then, to top it off, one and a half years ago I had major back surgery. Well, as one could imagine over the years my doses have turned from viodic, to oxycodone to fentanyl patches and oxycodone.
Avatar f tn I've been on Fentanyl 50 patch and sublingual fentanyl 600micg ( A bit like the Actiq Lollys)10 times a day for 3 years for pain as a result of Cancer and treatment. I now want to come off it by reducing the sublingual fentanyl(Actiq Lollys) first. I am now down to 4 a day over 3 weeks but have suffered sweats ,diarrhoea and anxiety in the process. My Drs supporting me but am I going too quickly ? if I go slower will there be less side effects or will I get the withdrawal symptoms any way?
Avatar f tn You must have serious pain to be on the dosage level that you are on and I hope that you are able to get your pain under control by using the fentanyl patches and/or some other medication. Lastly, I should tell you that if most of your pain is nerve pain, opioids do a very poor job at controlling nerve pain....you'll never get the relief you are looking for from opioids if you are trying to manage a lot of nerve pain.
410475 tn?1262942367 the test were run when I was still on fentanyl and the others like viocoden and norco. and, no I never drink. the viocoden contains a lot of tylenol which I know isn't good for the liver, but do not know about the kidneys, this is scaring me.
Avatar m tn I am not a doctor but I have seen many patients who have chronic pain following spine surgery. Generally, spine surgery causes nerve damage and are constantly sending signals to your brain that says you feel pain. I have seen a lot of success with spinal cord stimulation. In case you don't know, it is an implanted device that basically tricks your brain into not feeling pain signals. I would be more than happy to provide you with addition details if you are interested.
Avatar n tn I had surgery and was given fentanyl and nearly 2 mos later still shows up on drug test. I only have 1 kidney, but I'm still totally shocked and it has caused me bad problems as the dr doesn't believe me when I tell him I did not take this from the street! I don't even know how to get this from the street per se! Please has anyone else had this issue with fentanyl?
Avatar f tn ve been on many different pain medications and have gone through withdrawal on more than one occasion. With my first and second surgery I didn't have any problem with the meds...I used them only for pain and had refills at the pharmacy and extras at home. Can you believe that? I don't know what happened overtime but I became not only dependent on them for the pain but to live. I am currently in a pain management program with a Doc I have a lot of respect for.
410475 tn?1262942367 Fentanyl, a horriable drug. Dr gave me the drug last summer for cronic back pain while I was waiting for surgery. the back surgery was done on Dec 20.. 5 days ago I couldn't stand the patch any longer, so I ripped it off, in a few hours I felt shakey, the next day vomiting, today I am still feeling bad. my husband is taking time off work, this is no joke. I want to know how much longer is this going to take??? Please help me if you can.
Avatar m tn Any narcotic should, if possible, be slowly tapered as physical withdrawal is quite unpleasant. I did a fast taper that was not supervised by my doctor and it was less than ideal. Fentanyl can be a bit harder than Percocet, Vicodin, etc. Drinking lots of water is essential as it is really easy to get dehydrated. You can taper from the Fentanyl down and then cross over to a different immediate release narcotic and then taper down from that. Are you taking anything else?
Avatar f tn I get pain meds due to radiation damage which caused obstructions and adhesions and needed more surgery. I will need surgery in the future and it concerns me what I will get for pain if I remain on these drugs getting more tolerant. I feel its better to come of them now than livein a drug haze. eating is always going to be a problem due to radiation damage. I take liquid feeds to ensure I maintain my weight at 50kg.
410475 tn?1262942367 what about me still on viocoden, will I become addiced to that now, I am taking 6-8 a day for the surgery pain, o, and to worried, since you have had the surgery, did you have this butt and tail bone pain, its so uncomfortable.
1727909 tn?1314845210 it could happen from a bump into my lower back, or a fall] the pain started right after surgery and never went away. My neurosurgeon gave me a consult to the pain management center at the hospital I had my surgeries at) There are many ways failed back surgery pain syndrome can be treated, by your anesthesiologist . They normally start with nerve blocks(and oral pain meds), which are effective in a certain percentage of patients.
525913 tn?1213674012 My daughter has a torn disc in her lower back plus a few bulging ones as well. She was just about to have a disc replacement surgery when she found out she's pregnant. She has been on fentanyl patches 50mg for quie some time now but ow that she's pregnant her spine doctor won't write her and more sripts and her OBGYN wrote her a perscription for one box and decided he doesn't feel comfortable giving her that so now she is left with nothing!!
Avatar f tn I went back to the GI doctor on Monday and he continued with another month of Fentanyl patches and 5 mg of Oxycodone (which is only 20.00 instead of 80.00) but unfortunately it looks as though I may be having more surgery in the future. The GI is thinking now my hiatal hernia may be an issue, as I'm still having bad stomach pain, or some twisting or obstruction.
