femara and infertility pregnancy

I just finished taking Clomid for three months and no pregancy. I had a lap and am going to start taking Femara to try and concieve. Hopefully this works. I am just wondering if anyone else has taken Femara and what it was like ie side effects/pregnancy?! Thanks.

I took Femara and got pregnant when also doing injections. I had unexplained infertility. It appeared my eggs were not maturing on their own and I kept getting cysts. I am now 19 weeks pregnant. My treatment was femara, injection for 3 days, HCG shot and IUI. Your doctor will find a treatment that will work for you. Keep your hopes up. I remember choosing to not be stressed out about whether I was going to get a positive or not and it worked for me. Good Luck!!!

I have used clomid for conception but to no avail.How else can i achieve pregnancy.

Hi everyone Saw the Dr today and were told that we do in fact have unexplained fertility. He recommended Femara x 5 days starting tonight. Then overlap with Gonal F injections starting day 6, then when follicles are mature, Ovidrel injection and IUI x 2. Then if pregnancy I'll take Progesterone for the first while (can't remember how long) Has anyone done something similar? Just curious. I'm 39 so he said this is the best way and We should try for 3 cycles. Hope this works!!

Thanks for your input. I really never thought of that. I had a few ultrasounds done when I was on Clomid and Femara and didn't have any cysts then, but maybe something has changed since then.

Has anyone had any luck with taking femara for unexplained infertility? I'm 29 and have been off the pill since March 2009, actively TTC since November 2009. DH's counts are normal, my tubes are open, I ovulate on my own and my uterine lining is good. RE is having me start femara this cycle (days 3-7). Has anyone had luck with taking femara (without IUI) for unexplained infertility?

Is femara really so much worse than clomid? I am doing my infertility work up now and will be going on clomid cycle after next and I have heard so many awful things about the fact that clomid gives you all of these side effects and does famara do the same thing without the side effects?

my doctor doesnt think the femara has anything to do with the m/c and i trust him as he is a fertility specialist. they say 1 in 4 end in m/c so we will see if this is our month. i am in my 2ww.

Endometriosis can be worsened(or improved) by hormonal manipulation. I would start with a medication such as Clomid or Femara. Good luck!

Anyone get pregnant using femara/letrozole after being given unexplained infertility diagnosis? How many months did you take it before you got your positive? Me: 28 Hubby: 30 Sperms analysis perfect, laparoscopy perfect, all tests for ovulation and ultrasounds looked perfect. Trying since 2012 no pregnancy yet This is my 2nd cycle on femara, next ovulation expected on 1/14. If 3rd cycle not successful, will do iui with femara anyone else done this and got pregnant? ?

t ovulate. Recently went to a infertility specialist and he is putting me on medroxyprogesterone followed by clomid and femara. That is supposed to jump start the ovaries. Did the vaginal ultrasound that diagnosed me with PCOS, had an MI for my pituitary gland , and a lovey HSG test for the uterus and tubes had a mucous plug but that is about it for now. Keep you updated.

I also asked my doc if at the end of the months treatment on Femara if I should have an ultrasound before going back on the drug (if pregnancy is unsuccessful) and he said a home pregnancy test would be sufficient. I am worried about the possibility of birth defects...any info anyone out there could give me would be very much appreciated. I don't know where else to go. I want to trust my doctor, but would rather be safe than sorry, too.

I also have PCOS and clomid (months and months of it - on and off over the course of 7 years) never helped me. We were finally able to conceive after IVF. So don't be afraid to talk with your doctor about more options. And most of all - GOOD LUCK and HUGS to you!!

Have headaches in the evening usually on CD17 and CD18 and a bloated feeling most of teh days , have observed this in the last few cycles. Is this common with Femara or Progesterone. A bit worried bcos, I also have PCOS and with the weight increase it might hamper my chances of conception. Any advise anyone ?

hey folks, my husband and i just hit the 2 year mark of trying. the first year and a half we didn't know there was a big fibroid in my uterus and so after surgery we did get pregnant with the help of clomid and IUI. the pregnancy was not viable and we had a d&c in august. we started trying again in october and this is cycle 3 of negative pregnancy tests. i am so depressed i can hardly get myself out of bed.

Yes you can. I'm 23yr dx when I was 17 and am now finally pregnant with our first. Its more difficult and may require a mix and match of medication to see what works for you but no matter how long your ttc journey something will work for you. For me it was 5 rounds of clomid with a combo to metformin for the last 2 rounds. If you're like me and irregular and the clomid starts giving you regular AF take that as a huge step in the right direction.

So I am on Femara now and doctor also told me to use the OPKs, BBT seems to be a little inaccurate especially with alot of us lacking sleep. He said my most fertile days are as soon as I get the positive, and the day after- thats it. If I do not ovulate this cycle, come back and see him. So thats good news. Has anyone taken Femara? I also started on clomid, and was an "unexplained infertility". We were trying for 3 years and no pregnancy. The first doctor I saw told me I was fine, and there was no reason I wasnt getting pregnant. After wasting a year with him, I saw a new doctor who just looked at my transferred chart and knew I had a low antra follicle count. Have you had this procedure done? Its only an ultra sound of your ovaries, and they count your follicles. Depending on your age, your count varies.

Once Endo patients have a Lap and the lesions get "cleaned up" . What are your opinions on Lupron for 3-6 months post-op, in order to achieve pregnancy in a patient with mod-severe endometriosis? From what i've ready I can't find any studies that say it increases conception rates, rather it may just make you asymptomatic during the treatment time.

We have been ttc for over 2yrs and have unexplained infertility. All of our blood work and tests and u/s are perfect. Our sperm is perfect and eggs and uterus look great. I was just looking for others that are going thru the same thing so we could support each other!!

If you were my patient, I would check a pregnancy test ( I ALWAYS check a pregnancy test), and if it was negative, I would induce a period for you by prescribing progesterone. The, depending upon your goal, we would need to figure out how to regulate your cycles. There are a couple of options. If you don't want to get pregnant, the Mirena IUD can be really nice. Other options would be oral contraceptives or monthly progesterone tablets.

Hi wanting! Wow, that's great that they've found a possible reason! Hopefully, the meds will help you get pregnant soon! I'm not familiar with Armour or DHEA, but I am taking femara (on my third cycle), and it seems like most of us on femara take it days 3-7 (one or two pills a day)...similar to how you would take clomid. So I'm sure the 10 pills in one day would really kick-start things ;-) Best of luck to you!

Just to follow up with what everyone else is saying, Femara (Letrozole) seems to be the next thing to try if you don't respond well to Clomid. I was on Clomid for 4 cycles and am now on my 2nd with Femara. I've felt a lot better on the Femara and gotten strong positive OPK's, so it seems to be working well. Everyone responds to meds differently, but this might be worth a try next time. Here's a link to a really good article I found online about it.

I recently switched doctors and am getting ready to start my first cycle of femara. I am taking 2.5mg two times a day of femara/letrozole and 1500mg a day metformin. I am curious about side effects, advice, success stories, etc. I am anxious and have been TTC for 3 years total, 2 with a doctors assistance. THANK YOU in advance.
