Common Questions and Answers about Fear of flying

fear

Avatar n tn The anxiety produced when confronted with height creates what is near panic. The fear only exhibits itself primarily on the ground and outside.. I do not have a fear of flying in a jet airplane or inside tall buildings. It has become a real problem for me to enjoy skiing. I'm ok as long as I don't have any major "drop offs" thus limiting the area's where I can ski. I've tried to overcome the fear with little success. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!
Avatar f tn I have developed a fear of flying, I have flown numerous times before with no fear at all!!! Apart from mild nerbousness during turbulence, actually love flying. But last time I flew, due to depression I have 3 oanic attacks on a 30 minute flight. My heart was racing like crazy and everytime I looked out of the window I felt dizzy. I was sooo relieved when the plane landed!! So due to this bad experience I am terrified of flying and am already nervous about it.
Avatar f tn I don't have a fear of flying but I get motion sickness. 1 over the counter dramamine will knock me out. I only have to take half of one. I switched to Bonine because I felt better on it. A normal dose of with either of these medications should help you. 1 Dramamine or 2 Bonine. They will calm you down and make you tired. With my motion sickness, my body temperature goes up, I get nausea, it feels like a bad flu. So, this would be an alternative to your xanax.
2036337 tn?1337104009 This is all a result of your fear of flying. Many have this fear and taking a Xanax before boarding the plane will help you. Take things to keep your mind busy like a good book. Your anxiety is peaking due to your fear, so the calmer you are the better you'll feel. Your tests have proven that you are very healthy...trust in that. The only health issue you have is anxiety and it won't hurt or kill you...it's just very scary.
Avatar m tn I will be flying to Philippines in 2 days I normally have a MASSIVE fear of flights. This time round, I anticipate my fear of flights will go crazy because I will be going on an OLD aircraft (A340 model, possibly around 20 years old plane!) So how am I to stop this fear? Can i take Xanax? I checked with my insurance provider, and they say I can claim for Xanax, so looks like I can get a psychiatrist to dispense some for me.
Avatar n tn My fear of flying stems not from a fear of being unsafe but because of claustrophobia. I absolutely cannot stand the thought of being "trapped" in a flying tube for hours at a time. I just can't get over it. Help!
Avatar m tn Ativan has worked well for me in the past when flying. The thought of flying makes me panic but if I take .5 mg of Ativan about an hour before the flight I am okay. Good luck next Friday.
Avatar f tn New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying. Once we understand that dying is just for the body and the spirit moves back to the energy (the light) we are no longer afraid of dying.
Avatar f tn I have actually had this happen. This was never a fear of mine until I experienced it and now I will freak out and even start crying if I even hear a buzzing near my ear. Kinda traumatizing. But do not fear the possibility of this actually napping is very low!! I'm just one of the unlucky ones lol. If by chance you do have this happen it is very easily and quickly fixed. Get yourself to the hospital and they will get it Out quick!
Avatar f tn Normally flying during pregnancy is safe except in your last trimester where a lot of companies will make you bring a note from a dr, but Bc of your fear of flying and your anxiety i am very unsure if its ok. You have to call your dr and ask.
1660929 tn?1319758789 Hi All, I had the opportunity to go flying with a friend recently and it was FUN!!!! :-)) First time flying in a small plane 'Cessna', I was so excited. MS is not going to hold me back and don't let it hold you, you, you....back. Live, have fun and enjoy it everyday. Remember we're not different, rather we're special! Smile, Cry, Laugh...we are great!! :-D Here's a pic...it's the runway of our twin island Tobago.
Avatar f tn So I live in Australia, Melbourne. There are lots of bats around like flying fox and microbats. I live in an old house along with 4 other girls. Since I’m an international student, i have to stay in this house as it’s cheap. It’s been a month here. I didn’t notice there was a tiny hole below the skirting board above the carpet in my room below the wall. And next to that wall is another room which is used for drying clothes.

Avatar f tn I feel that this is the wrong road despite I used this road 1000 of times. I fear of flying. Now I need to travel to do a breast surgery in the US, as I am suspected to have a BC. I cried in the streets and was going crazy, I felt this is the end of it. Not because of BC, but because I have GAD and I wont be able to handle it or face it. I was thinking how will I deal with general anasethia, how will I handle medication. I went nuts.
13598916 tn?1430685515 I think I may already know the answer but just to be on the safe side, can you fly pre-surgery or if surgery isn't in the near future. Does anyone know the effects of flying with a CM-1 and a mild cerebral tonsil ectopia?
Avatar n tn Fear of flying is a very common issue, so it is certainly not you at all, heaps of people are afraid to fly, my advise would be to simple ease into, I'm from Australia so I'm nof familiar with what domestic flights are available in the US, but I know that I could take I flight from my home city Brisbane up to a spot in the North like Rockhampton, Mackay or Bundaberg.
Avatar m tn ve had a pretty bad fear of flying. This week a peer of mine gave me a few adderall to help focus on my work, which i feel helps a lot while the drug is active, but once it wheres off I immediately feel like I'm going to die and cry.
Avatar f tn Prescribed .5 mg of klonopin for my fear of flying. Will this help? And what will it feel like? I hope it doesn't make me dizzy!!!!!
Avatar n tn You'll be fine! Flying doesn't cause issues for baby. The fear when further along in pregnancy is a. Being in the air and going into labor or b. Being away from your doctor/hospital and going into labor. Otherwise, flying isn't dangerous. They do say to get up and walk when you are farther along due to the RARE occurrence of blood clots in the legs . Anyway, I flew several times during pregnancy.
Avatar f tn i travelling to europe after a month for 8 days. i am very fearful of flying though i have flown for 2 hours with fear. for my trip i have to fly for 8 hours to a strange country for the first time in my life. i also heard that people are not helpful and very mechanical there. i am wondering if i will be able to cope z i my suffering from several disorders, topmost being fear. i checked with my poc on phone he said yes.
Avatar f tn Hey Smiles, You will be just fine. As you know planes are safer than traveling in a car. Bring things to keep you busy while waiting to board and on the plane. Focus on your child and know she/he will pick up your vibe if your nervous. Even if you get an anti anxiety med, you don't want to be loopy while flying right? Fear of flying is all about control, the more lucid you are the better. Question....Did your fear flying before detox?
Avatar f tn I am 40 years old and I saw a cardiologist at the time when all was well. I have been constantly in fear of it occurring again as it was very frightening. I am due to fly from Australia to the UK in 2 weeks time with 2 young children and I am becoming increasingly anxious that it may happen when I'm in the plane. Will it be more likely to occur? (Bearing in mind that I'll be extra anxious) What will I do if it does occur? Should I tell the airline before travel?
847195 tn?1296171647 Since you have not only the fear of flying, but the fear of the medication to help you with your fear of flying...........I, too, strongly suggest you try taking some Xanax at home before your flight so you will know how it affects you. If you are not use to benzos, you will probably just feel very sedated and relaxed, which is how you want to feel on the plane. (Please do NOT drink any alcohol with this med!
