Fainting and menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Fainting and menopause

fainting

Avatar f tn I am 53 and in menopause and I have actually fainted now while driving. My heart was racing and I had a hot flash and then I lost consciousness for 3 or 4 seconds. Went off the road, through a fence and into a field. Very luckily, no one was hurt. This happened a year ago. Had tons of tests done on my heart, blood work, etc. Nothing found. Now, a year later, I'm starting to get the dizzy spells again (not vertigo though, I've had that before).
Avatar f tn She had been to the doc prior to fainting and her iron level results came back as 11. Normal is 14 and the doc revealed that 11 was ok in women. They put her on iron supplements regardless. Then I can remember psychological changes in her. She is currently feels the following: -Brain zaps which can awaken her during sleep. -Brain fog: Wakes up out of nowhere feeling confused.
Avatar f tn Hi. Thanks for responding. You asked what I'm usually doing right before I feel "faint"... It's happened on more than one occasion early in the morning when I'm in the shower. I get up at 4:45am and I'm fine when I get up, but when I'm in the shower, I don't even have enough time to wash all the soap off when it starts to happen and I have to jump out and run to the bed and lay down. Within just a few minutes, I'm fine again.
Avatar f tn m 53 now), I definitely had dizzy spells and some light-headedness, which I was told can happen during menopause due to the lack of estrogen being produced. I would think that having one less ovary would mean you have less estrogen being produced? But I certainly don't know this so don't go on just what I say! I have no idea if the remaining ovary produces more estrogen to make up for the missing one?
Avatar n tn I am 52, and pretty close to menopause, and I understand that the flutters and such can get worse during this time, geesh, I sure hope not, they scare me so much. I also notice that when I have a cold they act up. A double whammy.
Avatar f tn Or if the level of oxygen or sugar in the blood decreases, the brain may not get enough of them. Many disorders interfere with getting enough oxygen and sugar to the brain and thus can cause fainting. A less common reason for fainting is temporary interruption of consciousness by a seizure. Fainting can result from overstimulation of the vagus nerve, which helps control heart rate and blood pressure. Stimulating the vagus nerve causes the heart rate to slow and blood pressure to fall.

Avatar f tn I know during perimenopause that heart palps are one of the symptoms. My question has to do with post-menopause. I just wanted to know if there's anyone out there who knows whether i could still be having any kind of symptoms due to hormone fluctuations or at this point (since i haven't had a period if 3 or 4 years), would my palps be due to something else entirely and not associated with menopause.
Avatar f tn ve had erratic heartbeats, some angina and feel a little lightheaded (no fainting). I contributed it to stress. However, I saw a new cardiologist and she is running some tests and suggested I may be a candidate for an ICD. I was shocked. My other cardiologist has never mentioned it after 10 years of visits. I am 53 years old, going through menopause and a diabetic (but sugars are under control). Do I really need a defibrillator? I feel great most of the time.
Avatar n tn Hyperthyroidism too causes increased sweating and tiredness. It can also be due to menopause so get female hormone panel including LH, FSH, prolactin, estrogen, progesterone done. Do discuss this with your doctor and get yourself examined A comprehensive investigation is required keeping all the points in mind. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hearts don't blow bubbles, and healthy ones--as yours has essentially been shown to be--don't vibrate, either. Google 'muscle fasciculation.' You're probably most familiar with it as a little twitch under the eye, but it can happen in many skeletal muscles (these are on the outside of body, not internal). Sometimes, people get them in their calves, thighs, and forearms. They seem to show up during periods of stress and anxiety.
Avatar f tn I would definitely talk to my doctor fainting doesnt sound normal and make sure you're keeping your fluid intake up.
5045042 tn?1365890100 i believe i am entering menopause and also beginning some combo of treatment at same time please god no...?
Avatar f tn Thanks Lisa, I been to my doctor and she has taken blood sample to check the level of hormones, she was also not very sure about my funny symptoms, but she thinks these are because of Menopause. I hope and wish it is menopause. Get prickly feelings on my body, thats funny.
Avatar n tn My biggest concern is the dizziness and fainting and incredible fatigue. The fatigue has gotten worse over the years but my sleep apnea is managed well with CPAP and nothing else ever seemed wrong physically so I have just dealt with it by making sure I get plenty of rest and strictly pacing my activity level. My sense is something is not right but none of the tests seem all that unusual. I'm wondering if anyone has any idea what might be up with this?
Avatar f tn I have had this anxiety since I was a teenager. It first happened when we were at church, but it now happens regularly when I am confronted with certain situations. In short, I faint. I don't know why, but usually it is when I am in an uncomfotable situation (i.e. Weddings, Formal events with a lot of people, etc.)... The weird thing is, it has morphed from 'fainting in church' to 'fainting from worrying about fainting!'... Which is why it happens at large formal events.
Avatar n tn I am 18 and very fit and well except that I have a really bad blood and needle phobia. I pass out cold at the sight of blood needles and at the dentist. I have been fainting since I was a young boy but recently just the thought of blood or going to the dentist is enough to make me pass out. My parents were told that I am vasovagel and that as I get older the fainting should stop.
Avatar n tn I had my ears checked and they said its normal. I went to my cardiologist and they did a stress test, EKG and those were normal. I just did a holter monitor for 24 hours and have yet to get the results. I feel more dizzy when i stand and walk. Its worse after a meal and at night. Its worse when i close my eyes. I feel as though Im standing in a small boat in the middle of the ocean and the waves are rocking me and am trying to catch myself.
Avatar f tn In patients with fibromyalgia there can be a dysfunctional and hypersensitive autonomic nervous system which can cause blood pressure fluctuations, drop in blood pressure and fainting. If you are suffering from hypotension drink plenty of water and fluids. Consume more salt in your diet. You may need tests like an electrocardiogram, cardiac stress testing .A detailed clinical examination and work up can be helpful in managing your condition. See a physician and get your doubts clarified.
Avatar m tn Are you nervous all the time for fear of fainting? Have you talked with a gatro doctor about this and are you on any type of medication that may be causing this problem? let me know whats going on.
Avatar n tn If you got out of bed in the middle of the night and went to the bathroom still sort of sleepy your fainting spell could easily have been vasovagal syncope. Its pretty common and occurs when your BP drops inappropriately (can be induced by many many things).
126762 tn?1325261805 my sister, age 22, and 13 weeks pregnant, this morning was at work, while standing she felt faint, then walked out of the room, everything went black (she described it as thinking she went blind), then leaned against a wall... and fainted and woke up on the floor, she was sweating and shaking right before that. When she woke up, she went to the bathroom and threw up, and was shaky afterwards... this afternoon she had what she says was very little spotting (5 or 6 hours later).

Avatar f tn I went in the shower and felt faint, called for my Mum and after a few seconds I did actually faint and lose consciousness. For the next few weeks I was feeling really tired all the time, nauseated and getting bouts of dizziness so I basically spent weeks in bed. Due to being so inactive and hardly eating I ended up in hospital for 5 days with painful impacted constipation.
