Avatar n tn Flax seed and other oilseeds contained the highest total phytoestrogen content, followed by soy bean and tofu. The highest concentrations of Isoflavones are found in soy bean and soy bean products followed by legumes, whereas lignans are the primary source of phytoestrogen found in nuts and oilseeds (e.g. flax) and also found in cereals, legumes, fruits and vegetables. Phytoestrogen content varies in different foods, and may vary significantly within the same group of foods (e.g.
587083 tn?1327120262 With menopause your body stops making estrogen. Eating soy products seems to boost the estrogen a bit, but is that good? I was a regular consumer of soy milk, tofu, edamame and flax seed after menopause. After my diagnosis of breast cancer (estrogen positive) my oncologist recommended I avoid soy products because even the weak phytoestrogens may stimulate cancer cells. Research is not conclusive but better to be safe. As the addage goes, 'all things in moderation.
Avatar f tn But, I ate soy meat and drank soy milk. These raise you estrogen. Also I drank bottled water in plastic. WEll laying off of these helped some , got hormone free reg milk and cut down on soy meats but it took taking Indole-3 carbinol 400 mg. a day to work. Everytime I try to quit taking this migraines return. So I know it its working. Now maybe 1 day of my period or rarely two I will have a migraine and sometimes not at all. If I do have them now they are less severe.
Avatar m tn re already dealing with thryoid issues, as the estrogen levels are still affected by the thryoid and vice versa, whether male or female. It is estrogen in particular that soy affects in a huge way. Dr. Mercola explains more thoroughly and better than I can even begin to repeat why the traditionally fermented soy products are the only soy products that are even safe to consume.
3046028 tn?1340538562 She read an article where Japanese rarely suffer symptoms of menopause due to the high soy content in their diet. I believe it took about three months to kick in and all her estrogen deficiency symptoms went away. She took this product for the next three years until she found she didn't need it anymore.
Avatar f tn Yes, I was on estrogen patches when I was first diagnosed with B6 toxicity, and in fact had been slowing ramping up on the estrogen. Estrogen reportedly increases your need for B6, which seems counterintuitive, since I had more B6 toxicity with higher levels of estrogen. Perhaps estrogen causes B6 to store more readily in the muscle? I have no idea, but there IS an effect, somehow. Also, during my B6 toxicity recovery, things were always much worse before my period.
Avatar f tn Also, just so you are aware, “natural” hormone replacement has the same risks of estrogen exposure as “clinical” HRT. Estrogen is estrogen, whether it is from soy or the lab. This is why we recommend that women with estrogen receptor positive breast cancer avoid HRT as well as soy and other “natural” estrogen products.
1039061 tn?1257878294 In women, Soy also mimics estrogen. So if you indulge in a soy filled meal, and then dont for a few days, the body can see this as estrogen fluctuations. Being a guy, I have no experience with this but have read it quite a few times in different places. One thing that is for sure: All hormones play tug of war with each other, so its best to keep them as balanced as possible. I think the difference is between fermented soy and um-fermented soy. - something for you to goggle.
Avatar f tn I suspected that might be what it was for. The wild yam doesn't really have estrogen in it; it's merely a substance that mimics estrogen. I was on an estrogen patch for quite some time after my hysterectomy, but finally went off that, too. My doctor suggested black cohosh to help manage symptoms. Yes, it's important to read labels carefully, and understand what they say.
5079976 tn?1380275206 Protein comes from soy (tofu), beans, raw nuts, iron from dark leafy greens, like spinach.
Avatar f tn Hi there, I have recently been diagnosed with crohns and had surgery, I am currently not on any medication - I have been itchy on and off for 3 or 4 years my first trigger being the pill, the doctor seemed to think it was the estrogen in the pill that I was allergic to, therefore any food with soy in it would cause the same reaction (soy=estrogen), anyhow I stopped taking the pill and tried to eliminate soy as much as possible (soy is in a lot of foods!
1276890 tn?1271027818 Suggest you take a daily multi-vitamin and increase calcium consummation (soy milk, soy cheese, soy yogurt, leafy green vegetables) for stronger bones. It is important to eat the right combination of foods so you have the proper proteins and nutrients for your body too.
1310814 tn?1310654901 m so confused.. What is considered processed soy and what is natural soy? Is milk made from soy processed? Is the soy BEAN the only form of natural soy?
Avatar n tn Soy has plant estrogens. If your cancer is estrogen sensitive I would be very careful about using any product with "isolated soy protein.
Avatar f tn I am a vegetarian and have always eaten soy products. One of the benefits of soy is that it breaks down to a type of estrogen substitute. I have never taken estrogen replacement and my levels have always been great. Try a few soy products (ice cream, appetizers, supplements) and see if you feel better. Also, have you MD test your glucose levels. Both higher and lower levels will make you sweat!!
Avatar f tn In 1982 the FDA approved the addition of soy to processed foods in America. Everytime I eat a food that contains any amount of soy, soybean oil, soy sauce, soy lecithin, or hydrogenated soybean oil I will have a seizure. I know that soy is estrogen. It takes about 45 minutes for my body to metablize the soy and cause me to have a seizure. I had a total hysterectomy in 1988 and I have no progesterone in my system.
Avatar f tn On another note, think blood tests are to be done day 18-21 for best snapshot of estrogen/progesterone balance. FYI - would also follow a whole food type diet (meats, nuts, fruits, veg) to help maximize your improvement. Eliminating grains, dairy, soy, sugars will do wonders to help minimize some of the symptoms while you're working through the right path for you.
Avatar f tn Actually, you've got problems with the DHA made from the algae, too. It's not generally absorbed by humans. Fish eat red marine algae naturally, which is how they get the DHA that is one of the two omega 3 oils people take fish oil for, but people don't. People do eat a lot of different algaes, but not red algae. That's why farm raised fish don't have omega 3 fats in them -- they don't eat the algae.
Avatar f tn I am not a total expert, but I have recently learned that my habit of eating lots of soy products (soy milk, soy meat, etc) mimics estrogen in the body. I also found out that certain chemicals in soft plastic water bottles (which I had drank out of every day for a year at work) 'leak' into the water and also 'mimic' estrogen. Even stress hormones can lead to further imbalances.
1065748 tn?1255876527 I am also trying au naturale after IVF failure. I have never heard of using soy isoflavones, is this used to boost estrogen? I am 42 and have tried lots of stuff including DHEA and Chasteberry liquid so far no luck. Sorry can't be more help. Good luck, hope the soy helps.
Avatar f tn Hi there, Soy flavones causes enhanced production of estrogen and increase the chances to ovulate. It should not be taken for more than five days in a row every month. If you exceed the duration it can have negative effects on ovulation causing imbalances in your natural cycle. It is best to discuss your concerns and queries with your doctor about its usage and possible effects. Do write to me again. Best wishes and regards!
988694 tn?1332359479 I had peri menopause symptoms long before my thyroid stopped functioning.
Avatar f tn I could not connect my heavy eye twitching to this medication, since I was very happy as the Glucosomine had completely healed my knee, however, now that I think back, this med was apparently affecting my nervous system. I think I am either very allergic to Soy Lecithin or the soy in this product was very estrogenic to my breasts. I have taken a total of 47 tablets to date..

Avatar m tn It is thought that the phytoestrogens in soy can cause feminization of boys and early puberty onset in girls. It may be a little more expensive than soy, but sometimes it can be covered by your insurance if your pediatrician writes a prescription for it.
Avatar f tn Fermented soy, like tempeh, natto, and miso are actually healthy. But the soy found in tofu, soy hot dogs, soy flour and all the other soy products out there, is NOT fermented. If your body can't get the vital trace minerals it needs to function, it starts to suffer. For example, zinc is necessary for the brain and blood sugar control. Depleted amounts can lead to mental problems, and hyperglycemia.
