Vent away. I am shocked at how much I have shelled out for medical care, and I have fairly good insurance. I live in fear they'll find a way to cancel me! I've got almost three grand of debt in THIS YEAR for tests and meds and consultations and all that junk. Plus what I haven't paid on last year yet. The last anti-bodies test I had run, one of them, my TPOab came back "over 1,000". Well no kidding! I knew that before the needle hit my arm.

I am currently on synthroid and cytomel and just had a run in with my current endocrinologist, starting to have the same familiar pain when turning my head to the left, which has always been when I needed an increase, my TSH has gone up over the last few months, but she refused to increase.. she suggested I go to my primary care for a neck evauation and for chills...

My 11 yr old daughter was recently tested for PCOS, per my request. She's had rapid weight gain since the age of 3. At best, I've been able to stablize her weight through diet and exercise, but only for a period of time. If she faulters, even slightly from healthy eating, she instantly gains weight. PCOS does run in my family - one sister was diagnosed in her early twenties, the other sister has all of the symptoms.

I know that I have a nodule on my vocal chords as well as 2 nodules (one in each lobe) in my thyroid. The thyroid nodules are approximately 3 mm each. According to the ultrasound reports (I had one recently and also one three years ago), my thyroid gland is not enlarged and the nodules haven't changed significantly. I have seen an ear, nose and throat doctor who suggested that I take reflux medication (even though I don't have any heartburn).

First, does the doctor treat patients based on symptoms, by testing and adjusting the active thyroid hormones, free T3 and free T4, rather than relying on TSH as the diagnostic?
