Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test viruses

elisa-test

Avatar m tn I had a HERPES ELISA HSV Blood test (non-specific type). It is an IGG test. It came back negative. Is an IGG ELisa test still reliable even though non-specific type? I am worried my 2 negatives mean nothing now?
Avatar m tn 1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.
Avatar f tn can some one help please ?
Avatar f tn Most Elisa tests detect antibodies accurate 99.9% in 3 to 6 months. That is in the case of HIV 1/2 where the body produces nutrients or something to fight the viruses. There are other tests such as PCR by DNA (HIV 1 only) or NAAT (Both HIV 1/2) that look for the HIV virus itself, but not are FDA approved. These are only used for those who are only HIV positive in accordance with some webpages, and medical stuff.
Avatar m tn I recommend you be retested with both the Western Blot and Elisa test one more time. The Western Blot is the more DEFINITIVE test for HIV than the Elisa. It can take up to 6 months after exposure for your body to build up antibodies to the virus and show a Positive result. With the Western Blot being done at 4 months, but not after 6 months, you may not have built up those antibodies yet so your test at 4 months could have read Negative when you were in fact Positive.
Avatar f tn Does not LOOK FOR the antibody (as the ELISA or ECLIA tests) it looks for the viruses composition of their RNA (ribonucleic acid). This can detect early infection stage. IS A DOCTOR HERE TO ANSWER ME ABOUT THIS KIND OF TEST: PCR FOR HIV?
Avatar m tn BUT i read that gold standard for HIV is WB which is NOT positive AND ELISA REPEATEDLY WEAKLY POSITIVE. IN THIS CASE. If he test PCR may be it will give false positive results due to other viruses. NOW NO MEDICAL PROBLEMS EXCEPT LOW CD4. PLEASE REPLY..
Avatar f tn Can anyone explain when they test for hiv 1/2 they automatically only use a hiv type1 western blot? Is it because this test will detect both viruses? And if it comes back indeterminate is that when they test for hiv 2?
Avatar n tn The guy on the results hotline read my chart verbatim and it said that I was negative for both (and that I had never been exposed to either viruses, whatever else that may add). He also said that even though this test is not FDA-approved, it is considered the gold standard for herpes testing.
Avatar m tn You could also talk to your doctor about doing an HSV Western blot test, in addition to repeating the ELISA. (ELISA and EIA are the same thing, by the way.) Ask your doc to tell the lab to skip the IgM test. Feel free to return here with a follow-up comment to report the results of all this.
Avatar f tn huanter In recent days , cases of corona used plaquenil drugs and HIV ARV to order treated. So who gets plaquenil drugs , does it treating HIV drugs and does it affect the HIV test ?
Avatar m tn These are viruses present in 60% or more of children. The vast proportion of the population experience no ill effects at all with these viruses. Only those with serious immune issues will potentially experience ailments. Odds are you and your partner have either or both these viruses. I wouldn't feel these results play a role in your decision. As indicated these test results would be very common in children available for adoption.
Avatar n tn No, it would not effect the test in any way. Be it at 3 months or at any time.
Avatar m tn In my laboratory the HerpeSelect ELISA tends to be more accurate than the Western blot. This is not the same test as the Univesity of Washington Western Blot. I had originally thought your Western Blot was from UW but that appears not to be the case. I would revise my assessment to say (again) that your HSV-2 results may be falsely positve. Further, you may or may not have HSV-1.
Avatar f tn So, as long as I get an ELISA test and get negative result 3 months post exposure, it means I ain't infected by any type, subtype or group of HIV, right?
Avatar n tn t combo test. I have only elisa )My result is negative. My question that, how much i trust this negative. Is it enough to relax to me or not ? Can i take your opinion. Thanks so much.
Avatar m tn hi i am male i had sex exposure with sex worker 8 months ago and she was hiv positive, my hiv elisa test negative after 3 months as well as 8 months but i have symptoms like dry cough, white coated toung , red pimples on arms and foot , pls tell me what is this?
Avatar m tn Hand job,,,, an absolute zero risk,,, whatever the situation is, including what is covered in your post and beyond. I have always ended up at a hand job whenever called a massage girl. I don't remember how many times, but never felt myself at the risk and never went through with any kind of anxiety. My annual medical check up do include HIV ELISA test and it is always "negative". Does it reassure you?
Avatar n tn Assuming one does not put themselves at further risk since a questionable incident, have you ever had patients test negative on an ELISA at 4 weeks and positive on a subsequent test at 12 weeks? What about a negative ELISA at 6 weeks and positive at 12 weeks? Thanks for your assistance, it has been very helpful.
Avatar f tn Dear Dr I have taken an INSTI rapid test made by Biolitycal in Canada. they gave me the result in 60 seconds. Took blood from finger. The test was NEGATIVE, One dot appeared and I've been told by the Doctor in the private clinic that one dot means NEGATIVE. I took this test around 14 weeks after a possible exposure. The doctor at the private clinic said to me that this test is as reliable as the Elisa test. I'd like to have a confirmation from you.
Avatar n tn Frascino Hi, The recommended test for HIV screening is an HIV-antibody test (ELISA, EIA, rapid test, etc.). The Western Blot is a confirmatory test that should only be run to confirm a reactive (positive) screening test! That said, your negative result is definitive and yes, HIV-screening tests and Western Blots would be accurate 17 years after an exposure. You can read much more about HIV diagnostic tests in the archives of this forum. Check it out! Dr.
Avatar m tn You might try timing another test to match a time when fewer viruses being passed around in your area for a couple of weeks before the test. Autoimmune diseases also slightly raise the risk of a false positive but I doubt if you could do anything to reduce that probability. You could also consider that working for such unenlightened people might not be that nice anyway.
Avatar f tn I rubber my penis head with other man's penis head.... & lip kiss... With my mouth closed.. But he managed to get his tounge in my mouth.. Then almost after 4-5 months after I got tested for HIV..& probably it was Elisa test because it was written non-reactive - negative.... So now can I be sure I'm HIV free & be with someone without spreading HIV.
Avatar n tn the Lyme ELISA test is only 45 - 55% accurate. Make sure it is a Lyme western blot test.
