Common Questions and Answers about Elisa test used

elisa-test

Avatar f tn Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..
Avatar m tn If the laboratory does DUO test - is possible, that laboratory used of 1st. or 2nd. generation ELISA test + p24 antigen, without 3rd generation ELISA? Or everytime must be used 3rd generation ELISA?
Avatar n tn The results came back negative, and when I asked what type of test was used I was told it was a EIA (Elisa). I asked which generation it was, and the doctor didn't even know! Can I assume it was third generation?
Avatar m tn bt I find in internet tat ELISA was the first test used for detection of HIV....so how cn ELISA is considered as mordern test?
Avatar m tn 1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.
Avatar n tn Quit starting so many posts. Geesh...

Avatar n tn Dear Doc (and forum readers), About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though. I don't have sex. No girlfriend. And I don't sleep with street workers. As far as I can remember, I have not come into contact with blood (except when killing mosquitoes).
Avatar n tn There is NO test that will give you a conclusive negative result at 6 weeks. You'll need to test at 3 months to get a conclusive negative result. There is no reason to pay for two tests when one test will do it. If you were to test positive at 6 weeks from being recently infected you would not go on meds anyway.
Avatar n tn The doctor told me that my ELISA test was positive and so they sent my blood sample for an Antigen Western Blot test which came back negative. The doctor told me that 99,999% the Elisa test was false because of other factors that might affect the blood but he asked me to retest in one week. Is it possible that I have contacted Hiv? If so, how? I used a condom and it didn't break. I also cannot have Hiv from previus relationships because I tested Hiv negative 9 months ago.
287371 tn?1204860972 You would need to know what test was used, what processed was used, what type of machine was used to even begin to give you some idea what the reading were and what they meant.
Avatar n tn Is it possible to detect false -ve result in western blot test after performing ELISA test, what is the condition of person who has come with +ve ELISA test but -ve in western blot test. How much accurate are WB test as if ELISA test can have false +ve test then how can some some say that WB test are accurate if come with -ve result.
Avatar n tn An IFA test is a confirmative test like a Western Blot test used to confirm postive results.
Avatar n tn They just had their blood work done, and the guy who is supposed to be the bio dad (his sperm will be used to impregnate me) got an indeterminate result on the Elisa test. From all Ive read here, most people get indeterminates on the Western Blot, not the Elisa. Weird? Anyway, his Western Blot was negative, as was his viral load test. Based on his symptoms...fatigue lasting approx 4 weeks, and his location, his drs have decided to treat him for Lyme disease, and do more testing...
Avatar m tn So in short less then a month or during ARS, PCR RNA tests is best (9 -11 days after the exposure) but after a month a PCR DNA test would be best, but at this point an Elisa test would work just as good and without the risk of false positive which would make most people here go crazy. 6. RNA PCR is for early detection, test at the 14 th day after the exposure backed up by an antibody test at the 12th week is good enough to rule out HIV.
Avatar m tn Next day morning ( 12 hours later after that massage ) I was nervous and I went quickly to do HIV Rapid test which came positive then I did another Elisa test in the same day and came negative and he did western Bloat 2 days later and came negative, the doctor told me not to be worried as far as Elisa and W.B. came negatives. do you think I got HIV infection from touching other person fluid if he HIV infected and do you think the 1st Rapid test was false positive?
Avatar m tn Looks like you got lot of misinformation together. Firstly, the window period is 3 months and not 6. Secondly, you need a test at the 3rd month with an antibody test. Could be ELISA, CMIA, ELFA etc. As long as it is an antibody test it works. ELISA is just the technology of the test used to detect antibody. However, it's the most conventional technology and widely used. Thirdly, oraquick is an antibody test and uses the ELISA technology.
Avatar n tn An RNA test is a supplemental test used in conjunction with an antibody test. An RNA test cannot give you a conclusive result.
Avatar m tn Yes an ELISA test will detect antibodies cause by multiple strains.
Avatar m tn ELISA is the antibody test used, its not a rapid test and takes time, how ever there are several rapid tests in the market and gives results almost in less than ten minuites, all antibody tests are very accurate, ELISA is a older version very reliable probably yours was elisa
Avatar n tn The WB test is used to confirm your sero-status after a reactive ELISA test taken at the three month mark. It is not used to determine your sero status @ 4 weeks. The cut off point from which you can be sure of your HIV status is three months. Tests taken before then cannot be considered reliable.
