Hiye, this may seem a silly question but is the Elisa test that is used for HIV the same as the Elisa test used for rheumatoid arthritis?.. Is the Elisa just a standard antibody test that is not disease specific and if reactive then a specific test is used?..

I had 2 test the first one at 6 weeks test MEIA 4th generation, and the last one 3 months and 2 days after expouse bouth came back negative, the last the test wasn't Elisa was a "Quimioluminicencia test 4th generation" Can I trust in my result? I'm still being terrible worried and I'm waiting for the 6 months to do the last test.

also elisa is a useless test for hbvers and antivirals also dont change it, you have to test hbsag quantitative in iu/ml (architect or elecsys) and hbvdna quantitative in iu/ml after you took lamivudine you can only use tenofovir because lam can mutate hbv to resistance to all drugs except tenofovir and interferon

Others may cross-react with it that are negative. The western blot is used as a confirmatory test only after a reactive ELISA. The ELISA is often reactive before the WB. Take care.

Yes an ELISA test will pick up antibodies for HIV2 eventhough is does not state HIV2.

1 percent of the population is a low incidence of hiv, every elisa test is good at 3 months, that you have been told already, with each generation of test they get to detect a little bit earlier, elisa has been used to detect many viruses other than hiv, its an extremely reliable way to test for a virus, to culture for the virus takes to long. i doubt if they still use first generation test unless its home access test, also rapid test like oraquick are equilivant to 2 nd gen testing.

If it is used to measure the viral burden, then the accuracy of detection is very high, so it can detect extremely small amounts of virus in the blood. Why then not use it for conclusive results? The conclusive timeframe for ELISA is 3 months, but before you seroconvert, the virus spreads quickly in your blood, so you are supposed to have large number of infected cells, so PCR should detect that easily!!?!?! Right!?!?!?

i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time. i live in africa, the doctor said that the elisa test i did is excellant and it could detect antibodies even 1 week after last time.

maybe the result is false positive....Anyway....sex is not the only mode of transmission for HIV.....it can be through blood transfusion, i advice you to just wait for the western blot result for you to know the real result..
