There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.

When I was diagnosed in 1991 they were not doing s/co testing. The RIBA test is a confirmatory test for the antibody test. It is no longer widely used in this country as there are better confirmatory tests like the NAT and PCR. The PCR is the gold standard....it is the only test that tells you whether the virus is in your blood. All the others just tell you about the antibodies.Why do you think after everyone and your doctor tells you that you do not have HCV that you are still so concerned?

Ask for the Riba confirmatory test, which is very SPECIFIC for hcv antibody.
Sometimes the screening test has a cross reaction with other antibodies, resulting in
a 'false pos.' Do you have a risk for Hcv? drug use, blood transfusion etc. Be honest.
The elisa and Riba look for the antibody to Hcv not the virus itself, fyi.
a rapid test is fine at any stage, results dont change 1 year or 10 years assuming its based on the particular risk you just posted and no any other risk.
Hi, I have a couple questions over the accuracy, namely the sensitivity, of the herpes elisa IgG blood test. I had a herpes blood test performed a month ago. The test was taken at 11 weeks after an unprotected heterosexual encounter in college. I have no idea if she had an std or not, I just want to make sure that I did not acquire an std from that encounter. The test results I received from the test at 11 weeks were IgG type 1 and 2 - Negative, IgM type 1 and/or 2 - positive.
She was sent to have RIBA test but in ElISA test ,which was taken 2 times, the anti bodies were high! showing of virus activities in her body.
As she works in a sensitive area and all the kids always have tests before having any treatment in cell transplantation and none of the patience has this disease, how can she infected by this disease!? She has had no injections, no injuries , no surgery , no sexual activity etc.
