Anyway, the test was a rapid test, where they prick your finger and put in a little contraption that looks like a pregnancy test and then you wait 15 minutes. This test came back negative. How effective is the rapid test? Should I get a ELISA test to confirm that its negative? Any help is greatly appreciated.
There are no tests reliable at 2.5 weeks and rapid tests are ELISA tests. All antibody tests are conclusive at 3 months post exposure.
Thanks for the answer Dave. Couple of follow up questions. Do you know if the specific test I took was an Elisa test I couldn't tell because it said ARUP in the title and I've never heard of that before.
I remember reading an old post from grace that asked someone if they ever had cold sores and the person said no and she responded saying that if they never had cold sores and had contracted HSV-2 they would probably be showing the typical herpes blisters.
There is a lot of new tests but elisa is just the type of test, there are 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of elisas, and there continue to be a lot of research for new tests, the newest teste tend to be rapid test accurate as elsia tests, there has been also improvement also in the NAAT tests, and some labs are trying to come up with a new 5th generation rapid test (PCR+Antibody+p24) but is not ready yet.

About a week or so ago I needed to get a medical check for work. When I got my results back, I was shocked to be told that the Elisa test came back as HIV reactive at 1.52. They tested it twice. I really have no idea what that number stands for, though.

hello, i had protected sex with an hiv positive girl (i just discovered), i had sex with her twice, but she gave me several oral sex, i saw some blood on my penis in one of them, from her mouth i think.. i have no symptoms untill now, i did Elisa test 52 days after 1st time and 20 days after last time and today it´s been 2 months since 1st time (the day i saw the blood) and 1 month after our last time.
15) i started to get worried of the number so i did a second test on 15/2/2011 just to make sure that i completed 3 monthes and the rsult came ELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.33) i freeked out why that number is keeping rising !! i did another test yesterday 18/03/2011 result came ELISA : HIV1&HIV2 NEGATIVE (0.57)!!! my question is what are those numbers?, why its rising?, is it normal? and is there a chance that i am enfected? as the normal range is:

My husband had positive elisa test with 3.45 value in august 2016 for hepatitis c. Then he got treatment aND it showed 0.85 value in January 2017. He got checked his hepatitis C by elisa test again two days back. It showed a value of 85.0. He's active n doing job. No cough or any other symptoms. He did it as just a routine checkup. Please guide if elisa test can be 85.0 ?? What should we do next? Much worried! !
my doctor is said to me to give pcr-rt (quantitative) test? what is pcr? I am very worried.

Absolutely there is a need to confirm both of these values. I would suggest the western blot. You can obtain a test kit from the University of Washington and have your health care provider draw and send the blood or my clinic can arrange testing for you if you become a phone patient of ours.
There is about a 40% chance that the HSV 2 could be a false positive.
