394017 tn?1255014532 Thanks for your response back. As I was rapidly reading the posts, I wasn't absorbing all the details and it has been so many years since I learned these analytical techniques. I think you are referring to the Immunofluorescent assay (IFA) technique. This test uses a fluorescent microscope to be able to see the spirochete on the slide after specialized staining procedure. When I read some of the various postings on the forum, they mentioned a fluorescent light.
Avatar m tn Go get tested at 6 weeks and if you want again at 12 weeks for it to be conclusive but a negative at 6 weeks will probably not change. Also test for all other stds just in case. A test past 3 months is not necessary. Pray for me and I will pray for you man. Thank You. And yes the chance from a woman to a man is very low, but not impossible, never put yourself in that situation again. Take care and good health!
Avatar n tn If your cat were my patient, I would refer you to a veterinary teaching hospital to be evaluated by a veterinary nephrologist, and other specialists. Is there a veterinary teaching hospital or a referral clinic, with veterinary specialists near you?

Avatar n tn If you are in the Houston area and have lots of money to spend, you can get a referral to Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists in the Galleria area. That facility practices human-level veterinary medicine. If anything can be done, it will be done there. Cost is a big consideration, but more importantly, quality of the remaining life of your dog. Sometimes even if a treatment is available, it isn't fair to put the dog through it.

Avatar n tn Kidney transplants are a treatment option in extreme cases, and are available at a few veterinary facilities in the US. The College of Veterinary Medicine, in Davis, California has a top notch Kidney Transplant and pet dialysis facility. Long-term management involves monitoring kidney functions with blood and urine tests every three to six months. At home hydration can be monitored by pinching the skin on the back of your cat's neck. Hold it for five seconds, then release.
Avatar f tn Homeopathic medicine definitely has a place, but in my opinion, it should not be the only treatment. If at at all possible, I hope you can convince your mom to consult with a vet who also focuses on western veterinary medicine. You may also want to consult Dr. Cheng here at Med Help on the Ask a Vet forum. She practices both western and holistic veterinary medicine and I'm certain she can give you some insight on this subject.
Avatar n tn I have personally seen very positive results with adjunctive holistic veterinary medicine for kidney disease. Please research holistic veterinary medicine websites, such as the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association website, Chi Institute and others.
Avatar n tn It has been shown that veterinary acupuncture in conjunction with anti-inflammatories (steroids) and analgesics (tramadol and others) is highly effective and may be more helpful than anti-inflammatories and analgesics alone. If surgery is not recommended, or if you choose not to have surgery performed, than acupuncture is worth a try.
Avatar n tn symptoms persist despite all of the above, or if the symptoms only occur during certain seasons, then talk to your veterinarian about referral to a veterinary dermatologist for possible allergy skin testing and desensitization injections for pollen/dust allergies to identify and treat the underlying cause of the itch and recurrent infections, rather than just treating symptoms with medications (veterinary dermatologists can be found in your area by going to www.acvd.
Avatar n tn The Focus Technologies’ HerpeSelect® 1 and 2 ELISA IgG test came back NEGATIVE for HSV1 and POSITIVE for HSV2. The HSV2 count was 1.45 H. Some of the previous posts confused me.. According to my test result sheet, anything over .9 is considered positive. This test is supposed to be almost 100 % accurate, but some of the posts made me think that since I have a "low" score for antibodies, under 3, I might be negative after all. Any ideas?

Avatar n tn Do they totally rule out a cyst or lipoma? I do know from experience with my dog that if it's a cyst, if they drain it and don't remove the sac, it will just refill. Have you talked to a veterinary dermatologist?
