Avatar f tn CAMBRIDGE, Mass., USA (April 6, 2009) Cell Press, an imprint of Elsevier, announced today that its flagship journal, Cell, as well as Current Biology and The American Journal of Human Genetics, were voted among the Special Library Association's (SLA) Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine of the past century.
Avatar n tn I know how the test works (definitely one situation where being a biology major comes in handy), but I was wondering how accurate it is. Does anyone know what the rate of false positives is? Is a negative test result conclusive, or should I follow it up with an ELISA? Thanks for the information. Hopefully it comes back negative!
1201433 tn?1328997637 The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is a technique in molecular biology to amplify a single or few copies of a piece of DNA across several orders of magnitude, generating thousands to millions of copies of a particular DNA sequence. Practically it is means the test measuring your viral load. According to some, the best available test is LabCorp NGI QuantaSure.
796855 tn?1237431399 NEW TESTING METHOD FOR HCV VIRAL LOADS Please note that effective mid-August 2005, the laboratory method used for measuring Hepatitis C quantitative viral loads in the OHSU Molecular Diagnostic Center will be changing (test numbers 102-8804 and 102-8814).

634590 tn?1293774093 com/top-stories/0/1250755/ The Ministry of Science and Technology, instead of encouraging microbiologist Dr Sheikh Riazuddin in manufacturing low-cost drug, initiated an inquiry against him through the FIA.
Avatar f tn Doctors offer WB and ELISA at the same time in some countries where the patient pays for all his tests. In Canada they dont offer the WB test as patient is not paying for it, and the health ministry does the WB only when ELISA is positive.
Avatar m tn We see a clear overlap in the molecular mechanisms controlling self-renewal in hepatocytes and macrophages and that could indicate the existence of a more general self-renewal program used by specialised cell types. If this is the case, it can really change the current perception that only stem cells are responsible for renewal of our tissues," says Janus Schou Jakobsen.
190885 tn?1333025891 The first test is the COBAS(R) AmpliPrep/ COBAS(R) Taqman (R) HCV test kit made by Roche Molecular. This test is the usual one my doc prescribed until I asked for the 2 part Heptimax test from Quest Diagnostics. The second part of the Heptimax test is a TMA PCR test. This test is more sensitive because it makes copies of the HCV RNA as well as copying that HCV RNA into DNA. I like molecular biology.
Avatar n tn It only reflects the fact that there are few absolutes in biology or medicine. In general, scientists are trained to rarely say "never" or "always" if there is a theoretical possibility. Considering the low risk of the exposure plus the blood test result, the chance you have HIV has to be one in a billion or something like that, i.e. zero "for all practical purposes".
Avatar m tn Infrastructure All our instruments are state-of-the-art with back up facility. Metropolis is the only organization in India which houses the largest Molecular Biology set up with all the 6 different Nucleic acid testing technologies (PCR, b-DNA, Hybrid Capture, TMA, Real time PCR and Cobas Amplicor). We use the golden reference technology for all critical referral tests such as Tuberculosis, HIV Testing, Hepatitis Testing, Immunohistochemistry / Genetics." http://www.metropolisindia.
Avatar n tn t think that there is an error in your diagnosis in that you do have a spirochete band and also that the ELISA came up positive. I have read several new valid studies and lyme does hide out in the lymph nodes. Read for yourself. I am worried that you won't get the the right treatment. My husband has a Ph.D. in molecular biology and saw your results too and thinks you need to be treated. Doxycycline is the treatment for about 2 months.
Avatar f tn Some will disagree but the molecular biology of a cell has only receptors for particular anti-bodies and a gluten anti-body can not be a thyroid anti-body.
Avatar f tn doctor are saying to give pcr test for confirmation. which test is most sensitive? qualitative or quantitative?
Avatar n tn Based on RNA interference (RNAi), the treatment cripples the virus in a molecular one–two punch, simultaneously disabling the bug’s ability to replicate and the host cell’s capacity to take up the virus. The treatment is just as effective when applied from one week before to a few hours after exposure to the virus. So the basic biology of the prophylactic is responsive to real-world demands. check out Article publish below Harvard Medical http://focus.hms.harvard.
Avatar m tn The reason is the confirmatory test (WB) often takes longer to turn positive than the screening test in the case of ELISA. If you have a p24 screening test then the resultant wait until a valid confirmatory test is longer.
Avatar f tn 49 I knew I would test positive for hsv1 cause I had 2 cold sores in the past. First in 2007, second in 2009. And I never had an outbreak, at least to my knowledge. After reading the forums, I decided to get a Biokit test done and the result was negative. I was happy at first to hear that but Grace mentioned that the test also has a false negative rate and the doctor did not let me see the results come up after he said he would.
Avatar n tn What is the difference in the Oralswab rapid test and unigold rapid finger prick test? Are they both just as accurate and sensitive? Is one better or more reliable than the other? Is it just better to test with ELISA test or is there a difference?
1861429 tn?1319982848 That's a very long/technical explanation. As I said, the home of the virus is the ganglion. Herpes sort of becomes part of your body, its DNA somehow manages to "merge" and just hide there, where the immune system cannot find it. There's no blood there, no CSF there. Nothing. No material that can be analysed through PCR. Each virus works in a different way. Hep C can be detected through antibody testing and, if active, through PCR or other molecular biology methods.
Avatar m tn very interesting I´ve read the first of 8 pages saved it in my computer gonna read the rest later. ty for posting.
Avatar m tn I am now in philippines because I was not able to pass medical test. I had another test in hi precision which I will get tomorrow .
