A negative Western blot test means the ELISA test was a false positive test. The Western blot test can also be unclear, in which case more testing is done.
Negative tests do not rule out HIV infection. There is a period of time (called the "window period") between HIV infection and the appearance of anti-HIV antibodies that can be measured. This period is 3 months from exposure. However, negative WB at 45 days is certainly very encouraging.

m a chronic pain patient that was diagnosed with FMS, MPS, and DDD (nech and back). Recently, I tested at a 4.89 on the ELIAS screening test for LYME. Due to my medical history, my PM doctor referred me to an ID doctor who wants to run a lumbar puncture to assess the central nervous system. I read that this is an uncommon procedure for LYME testing.
So my questions are --
1) why are the conducting this test?
2) what else could be wrong (i.e., what causes a "false positive"?

If that test comes back fine, I'm just going to assume my first test was due to lab error. I will be sure to keep everyone posted as to my progress. MOVE ON. They don't do Western Blot tests on negative ELISA tests.
Being that the test was done about 15 days after contact, I fear that it may have triggered the Elisa test but the western blot did not catch anything? Being a male, not having lupus or any of those triggers, it is making me extremely anxious. I understand that the contact Was limited as there was no penetration or oral,only penis tip to nipples and hand to penis....
Would a test again help, even though I am only now one month in the window?
Are these results conclusive for being negative for HIV or do I need to get another ELISA again on 90 days post? The odds I've figured for myself are about 1/20,000,000,000 which makes me feel pretty good (using 3% incidence which is probably very high in the first place). I've also read that the difference between 82 and 90 days is irrelevant. However, it's just one of those things where a very slight possibility still seems uncomfortable.
I have interstitial cystitis and a couple other autoimmune disorders. I've been tested for lupus, rheumatoid arthritis and sjogrens several times in the last 7 years but they've been negative. I have very dry eyes, some joint pain and ulcers that come and go in my throat (just beyond the tongue), and have lost my energy, always tired but do not sleep well. Is sjogrens tough to diagnose through bloodwork? I'm tired of all the doctors and they probably feel the same way! Help...
t get better when the infection cleared my PCP did a lyme test. The ANA game back positive and ELISA positive for lyme. Started doxycycline last Monday for 28 days. Then the nurse called and said my Western Blot was negative but to keep going with the antibiotics anyway.
I called the rheumatologist on July 2nd and he couldnt see me but did review my labs and said if I didn't feel better to go by this week and see him.
Can having Lupus cause false positives on the lyme tests?

i already pass the 3 month period to get tested for HIV
my question is , "HIV AG\AB test" after the three months it will be searching for the AB as well as it search for the AG if it found it,
so what is the method used to search for the AB in the (HIV AG\AB) test , 2- is is better than the method in Elisa AB test after 3 months , 3- if i did h="hiv AG\AB" test after three months " is it conclusive as if i did HIV Elisa AB test"

No matte what generation for test method , elisa generation 2 ? 3 or 4 ? Someone said 3 month is conclusive but some said 6 month & 12 month . Which is the correct timetable for conclusive test result ? Last test was 177 days by elisa negative but don't know what generation , was this result conclusive ?
