627095 tn?1222040689 The constant sweating, weight gain, fatigue, loss of memory, trouble thinking and speaking,etc.. Are there any dangers for stopping this medication due to the length of time I have been on it? Also what are some natural alternatives to taking the Effexor and how long must I wait before taking those?
Avatar n tn Now I mix it with Wellbutrin which stimulates me, so I take this in the morning and effexor at night. Other SE's of effexor included excessive sweating, short term memory loss, fatigue, acne, weight gain and total lack of sex drive/sensation.
Avatar f tn Memory loss is a known side effect of Effexor. see http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar n tn I've been off of my effexor xr for about 5 days now and after talking to my pharmacist and doing some of my own research, ginger seems to help greatly with dizziness and nausea. Here is a link for the effects of ginger and how to take it. I've been chewing a 1/4" piece of peeled, fresh ginger every 4 hours and it is working miracles. Here is the link <a href=http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Gingerch.
Avatar n tn She checked her palm pilot for side effects and said there was not data showing shortness of breath as a side effect and ended up sending me home with a prescription for Effexor XR 150mg. I went home and typed in EFFEXOR and shortness of breath and thank God I did because there were many sites addressing this issue. I called my MHFNP back on Friday to try and advise her I saw this on the internet.
Avatar n tn I really liked the effexor xr but I have lost my insurance and can no longer afford it, so I have begun the weening process, and boy does it suck
Avatar m tn How long did the pain last and where is (was) the pain? Any ideas why Effexor XR attacks muscle and joints? I had terrible back pain both now in withdrawal, but I also had it when I started the medicine. It feels like the muscles are contracted very tightly and cannot relax. I can see this ocurring in times of great stress, but I do not feel that kind of stress now.
Avatar m tn Earlier this year while on my regular daily dose of 150 I started to notice a feeling feeling lightheadedness with some loss on concentration and memory. This was the same feeling I would get if I missed 2 consecuative days while on the 150per day. I decided to get off the med because it appeared to me that my brain wanted more med to to the same job, or addiction.
Avatar n tn AFTER A FEW DAYS EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL AND I ASKED MY PSYCHIATRIST ABOUT ANY SIDE EFFECT EFFEXOR XR MAY HAVE SHE TOLD ME ONLY HEADACHES AND QUEASINESS..I DIDNT BELIEVER HER THEN AND SINCE READING THIS FORUM MY DISBELIEF WAS JUSTIFIED...
Avatar n tn YIKES!! I've been on effexor xr for approx 2 yrs. I had no clue there was such a withdrawal effect. Reading all of your comments is eye opening!!! While vacationing this summer I had enough effexor xr for all but 1 day. I attributed the crying to lack of sleep from vacationing, perhaps too much partying etc. But, it sounds like I was having the same symptons you all were describing about withdrawal. YIKES!!!!! Plus......the weight gain while on the med is NOT GOOD!!
Avatar n tn I just cannot gain anymore weight ( I tried zoloft 5 yrs ago and gained 50 lbs in 3 months and still havent lost it) and really need a clear mind now.
Avatar n tn About this same time I had decided to start weaning myself off of Effexor for several different reasons. I was taking both Wellbutrin XL and Effexor XR and was just tired of taking so many medications ( I am also on hormone replacement therapy). The side effects I had from Effexor were not that totally bad; sweating and being hot when nobody else was, decreased sexual feelings, not as intense orgasms. I had quit about a year ago but don't remember feeling like this at all.
Avatar n tn Hi everyone! I have been taking Effexor XR 150mg. for a month and I am experiencing weight loss. I went from weighing 169-172 lbs. to now weighing 155. I love this anti-depressant. I have found that it works for me when no other drug would. I have noticed that I get full fast and I have no desire to eat. I can only say that this drug has altered my sex drive considerably, but I was a bit over-sexed to begin with. The Effexor has made my sex drive more controllable.
Avatar f tn 00 for 30 day supply, I can only imagine how much the Effexor XR is and/or Lithium. No. Not happening. I believe in myself and I will get off this medication and start living my life drug free! I lost my faith in the Lord at some point in this entire process, but the Christian woman in me is back and I have given it all to the Lord. I will survive! And so can you if you are in a similar situation as me. Any help out there? Please?
Avatar f tn I have been on meds for bi-polar and have developed tremors and memory loss (phone #, SS# etc plus other). I have gotten off the meds, been a few days, and am scared that this will be a permanent change. Friends who hadn't seen me in months, came over recently and were shocked and concerned about me, telling me that I seemed like a zombie. My husband's friends are pulling him aside and asking what's wrong. This is NOT the normal me. The psych told me I could get off the meds, I kind of insisted.
Avatar m tn I searched about the effect of effexor on memory loss and I found it lowers acetylecholine level in the brain. Then I thought to take acetylecholinesterase inhibitor as donepezil but I'm not sure about its role in my case. Now I do not know what to do. I hope you could help me. How can I get rid of this annoying symptom memory loss? and can i take any medication to enhance my memory? Please help me , my life now is hopeless..
534854 tn?1234079708 I remember it being horrible, but because of my completely non-existent memory, I don't remember all of it. I know only one other person who has been on effexor xr almost as long and we have similar problems with our health. I can't find anything on the internet about the long term effects on your body, like kidneys, etc. and wondered if anyone knows? I am on my first day of cutting the 300 in half, so I am ok, but I know and am very scared about what's to come.
Avatar f tn I was at one point on 450mg per day of Effexor XR (along with several other powerful meds, several of which I have eliminated) and I am now down to 37.5mg per day every other day. I have 4 pills left but feel I might just be delaying the inevitable for another week. It has gotten much more difficult since getting down to 75mg per day and I want to cut the cord now.
Avatar m tn ) Also, in regards to coming off of Effexor, I am also tapering off of Effexor XR. I've seen some of the other posts from people on this site and I have some of the same symptoms. My suggestion would be to talk with the doctor that regulates your psych meds. Be honest in telling him or her that you haven't been consistent in your intake. They won't judge you. They just want to help figure out how to help you! If you love this medicine, then just work on being consistent.
Avatar n tn I'm at 195 pounds now, and hope to be at 145-150 at some point. Anyone that has also gone off Effexor and took a LONG time to experience weight loss who'd like to comment is very welcome to! We can all use the support!
Avatar n tn My hypothesis is that these are all related to an abrubt reduction in Effexor XR. My reason for taking Effexor is a misdiagnosis(my fatigue was due to mono). Last Friday, I reduced my morning intake from 225 mgs to 150 mgs. Every day since has been worse. To support my theory, I have noticed some bennifit, though not complete, from Claritan. I have read that anti histamines may help with withdrawal related symptoms.
Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor 75 XR for approximately 18 months and have gained about 20 lbs. during that time. I am almost 50 years old and other than being pregnant, my weight had not varied more than 3 lbs since I was 18, until I started taking Effexor. My doctor guaranteed me that it would not cause weight gain, she put me on it to help with hot flashes and insomnia. She also assured me that I wouldn't have any trouble getting off of it because I am on such a small dose.
Avatar n tn My appetite for food, socialization, exercise, (just about everything) has disappeared. I have some memory loss and am deeply depressed although I take Effexor XR 150 mg every evening. Should I ask my doctor to change the depression symptoms?
Avatar f tn I am very perplexed at the response that I got or should I say the lack thereof. I have scoured the internet for information on Effexor xr withdrawal and how long it lasts. I figure that there are a few possibilities why no one has responded and they are…. 1. They have all gone back on Effexor xr because they couldn’t handle the side effects. 2.
997928 tn?1252447837 I can't focus, have short-term memory loss, speak slowly, and have an exceding amount of mucus in my throat. I was taking 300mg. Now I'm at 225mg. It has helped to take down the dose, but it's still very annoying! I take it with 300mg of Effexor XR which I have been taking for several years. Does anyone have a suggestion on a replacement for Lamictal? I've also been diagnosed with Bi-Polar NOS. Lamictal works okay for my mood, but the anxiety is still bothersom.
352941 tn?1197499422 Hello again, My last post I was taking Neurontin, Celexa and Effexor XR (to ween myself off of it so I can take the Celexa.) I went to my psychiatrist this morning because the Neurontin wasn't working. So he prescribed me Klonopin. I am now taking the Celexa and Klonopin. I have severe agoraphobia, emetophobia (fear of vomiting), anxiety and horrible panic attacks. My husbands leaving the Army and we are moving back home on Sunday, which is a 13 hour drive.
Avatar n tn brain zaps, anger, disconnected feeling, short-term memory loss, headache, muscle aches across chest and neck, etc. I only found this out once I switched from the brand name to the generic form and had a horrific experience. I decided to "google" the subject and found quite a bit of information online.
