Avatar n tn I was talking with my Dr last night about which AD to use during treatment. We went over a list of ones he uses. I asked him about Effexor and he informed me that Effexor was in the catgory of the harder SSRI to withdraw from. Make sure you do a slow taper when it is time to come of of the Effexor. God Bless.
Avatar n tn i had to stop because i lost my insurance . and it gave me high blood pressure. and my kidneys were in pain. now my blood pressure is better my kidneys feel better. and now hell has set in for while. can anyone tell me if this has happened to them.
Avatar n tn But Nexium makes you gain weight and your blood pressure climbs and they start in on the Cartia, but all of this stuff causes depression and lethargy, so they start you in the psychotropic meds. WHO DO THESE PEOPLE THINK THEY ARE, GIVING US A DOZEN MEDICATIONS??? They certainly aren't healing anybody. Read Kevin Trudeau's new book, The truth THEY don't want you to know about. It will blow your mind. I read it 2 weeks ago, and it just blew me away.
Avatar m tn The Cardiologist find nothing wrong with my heart and think that all my symptoms are linked to my anxiety level (low pulse rate, dizziness and high blood pressure, pins and needles and numbness sensations). Is it normal to have high blood pressure with low pulse rate. Also, is it normal to feel like I have no energy all the time, even if I sleep 7 hours by night and do a nap at daytime? I always feel my heart beat in my chest now, I never was like that before and never felt it.
Avatar f tn You must remember that side effects do not happen to everyone, and are almost always self limiting, and not progressive. Therefore risk of increased blood pressure is low, and if happens, is reversible when stop drug. Regarding the difference between the two, it is hard to say there is a difference despite what you read because each person is so different, so only a trial will tell. Time frame, side effects should be minimal by end of 3rd week, if not, time to change.
Avatar n tn Since then I went from having low blood pressure to high. About three days ago I stopped taking it because of this. My blood pressure is back to normal but for last two days, am having terrible withdrawl symptoms. Should I start taking it again until I can get to see my doctor? Or how long will this last?
Avatar m tn I discussed my resting after bowl movement with someone not a doctor and he said that it maybe little high blood pressure and it goes down after bowl movement. Is this possible? Also does probiotic supplements increase or decrease blood pressure. Probiotics claim they reduce high blood pressure. I am getting mixed information from what I have searched on web. About.com says it can also increase chances of sepis- blood infection and diverticulitis. I don't know if this is true.

Avatar f tn My husband has been on Effexor XR 150 mg for about 1 1/2 years and his original symptoms seem to be reoccuring (ie. extreme irritability, lack of sleep, low motivation, easily overwhelmed, anger). He contacted his internist (Texas) about increasing his doseage and they told him that was the maximum doseage he could be on and I'm looking on the blog and that doesn't appear to be true. My husband hates taking medication and certainly doesn't want to ADD anything else.
Avatar m tn He prescribed me a high blood pressure med, which I have naturally low blood pressure - needless to say I only took this two times and the third day my BP was 79/49 without one. Fortunately or unfortunately I came down with the flu, strep throat and an upper respiratroy infection on day 14 - that week my physical health symptoms trumped the WD symptoms. However, Sunday was day 21 without the Effexor and my second day feeling human after my sickness.
Avatar n tn I've never had high blood pressure in my life!!! I was told that the effexor was having an adverse side effect on me and that I needed to alert my internist as soon as I could. I went to the regular dr and they ordered a bunch of blood tests. My tests all came back good except for my cardiac ones. One year ago, my cholesterol level was 160. It is now 240. My dr looked up effexor and adverse reactions and found that YES, effexor even raises cholesterol levels.
Avatar f tn My doctor old me that because these two meds work on different parts of the brain i was experiencing w/d from the Effexor- needless to say- I stopped the Wellbutrin and started taking th Effexor again. Now I want off all meds and am really not looking forward to the dizziness, crying fits, emotional outbursts and brain zaps. Here's to a hopefully short withdrawl!
Avatar n tn I had one of my primary care docs put me on hytrin, a blood pressure medication to try and counter the effects of the effexor that were causing my night sweats. any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn 5mg now because it didn't work great for me and it skyrocketed my blood pressure. I am starting Prozac 20mg and decreasing the Effexor. Here's the thing. What do you mean by muscle twitches? Are they involuntary? Because I have voluntary muscle twitching that I just noticed as I began decreasing the effexor. Mine is an uncontrollable feeling that I need to tighten my muscles. I tighten them quickly, like a twitch to eliminate this feeling.
Avatar n tn Hi, I have been on Effexor XR for 3 years and I have gained about 40-50pounds, most when my dose was increased to 225, now I am on 75mg b/c I'm getting ready to wean off the medicine in a couple of weeks, and I haven't lost anything yet. My eating habits have not changed and I exercise. I have always been underweight and I could eat whatever I wanted...I'm only 26 years old...I know my metabolism has changed some, but not enough to pack on 40 pounds.
Avatar n tn and average weight--and I suspect having that much of anything in my system was either dangerous or a waste of drug. My blood pressure shot up, even though I eat well and exercise. I lost weight because I was getting horrible stomachaches. I had to take something else for hypertension to keep my BP close to normal. I eventually went off of Effexor because it wasn't helping my depression and I was having nightmares and that pesky stomach pain.
Avatar n tn Just be aware that if and when you decide to stop taking Effexor XR, you should taper gradually. Elevated blood pressure can occur, but you can check that every month at the pharmacy and when you go in for doctor's appointments. Other than that, enjoy the benefit of being able to better deal with problems.
Avatar n tn Under my doctor's supervisor I was to decrease my Effoxor by 75 mg every 2 weeks, while starting on low dosages of Zoloft. I have high blood pressure and kidney disease and my doctor wanted me off Effexor XR as it can raise your blood pressure. Zoloft does not affect blood pressure. My withdrawal symtoms are: Full body night sweats to the point I have to change my PJ's one to two times a night. I have experienced soft BM's about 4 times a day, along with some stomach cramping.
Avatar n tn So if anxiety is your main problem then this med should help you like it did before. Make sure you go for regular checkups to get your blood pressure checked and things like that. I would recommend that no matter what med your taking. I hope you feel better soon. Take care.
Avatar n tn It helped me a lot too... but watch your blood pressure...
Avatar n tn What you feel in your head means your blod pressure is rising. If I am 30 hours since last dosabe, my blood pressure rises and I am asleep==can't stay awake, except for feeling the blood pressure rise. You need to take your usual dosage or see a doctor right away! BTW, I normally have perfect blood pressure.
Avatar n tn Also, the physical withdrawals are painful and it feels like you have the flu. Since Effexor XR effects blood pressure, she could expereice a severe drop. The withdrawal will last at least a month. It is NOT a good situation for her to be in. The only way to get off Effexor safely is to taper. Cold turkey is too dangerous since it leads to volatile emotions. Please encourage her to take at least a half of her normal dose to get her a little comfortable.
Avatar f tn I'm not on any medications that would cause high blood pressure besides Effexor, and I'm 26 years old, and it's ALWAYS been fine until TODAY. So, my GP told me to quit taking the effexor (and that I should wean, if need be) and started me on Lexapro, 10mg, RIGHT AWAY. Take the full 10mg of Lex -- it's a mild dose, and the dose that works for most people.
Avatar n tn My pharmacist knew nothing of its addictive potential and had not heard of the effects of Effexor on simple things like circulation (blood pressure and 'tingling' extremeties). The fact simply remains : Effexor IS PHYSIOLOGICALLY ADDICTIVE. It may be 'non habit forming' because it does not provide the user with a feeling of euphoria - but studies have proven Effexor's addictive qualities.
Avatar n tn for a check up and my blood pressure was high and not to mention the weight gain. Well im pleased to say my blood pressure is back to BETTER then normal, but have not lost any weight. When i started taking effexor I lost weight....25lbs in less then 3 months... i was loving it! I was able to maintain my weight at 100 lbs for about 2 years there abouts, but then all of a sudden i started gaining out of no where. I now weigh 140 lbs im also 5'2".
Avatar n tn I have been on Effexor XR for the past 2 years. I was taking 300 mg a day with Lamictal 200mg/day and Seroquel 100mg to sleep. The Effexor wasn't working so my psychiatrist wanted to drop the Effexor and replace it with Lexapro 10mg/day. He told me to "just" drop my Effexor dose by one 75 mg pill a day and I would be "off" of the Effexor in 4 days. Yeah, right!!! Having once before attempted to "stop" Effexor, I knew it wasn't going to be that easy.
Avatar n tn I've been off of my effexor xr for about 5 days now and after talking to my pharmacist and doing some of my own research, ginger seems to help greatly with dizziness and nausea. Here is a link for the effects of ginger and how to take it. I've been chewing a 1/4" piece of peeled, fresh ginger every 4 hours and it is working miracles. Here is the link <a href=http://www.umm.edu/altmed/ConsHerbs/Gingerch.
Avatar n tn I am annoyed with my doctor because he knows, since my wreck, that I have intermittent high (very high) blood pressure and high cholesterol (hereditary) which is why I wanted something that would not make me gain weight. How long is this going to last????
