Avatar n tn kidney transplants, and taking lipitor (5mgQD) for prevention of chronic rejection, using its anti-inflammatory effects. I take it at night (HS). Breakfast sugars, taking 2 mg Prednisone, are harder to control & rise faster than remainder of day. Does lipitor have effects on the liver which impact the liver's release of glucogen? This is without taking lexapro, advair, albuterol or other meds (excepting 2 mg prednisone) which would affect blood sugar.

Avatar f tn Many are satisfied with quinoa and almond milk as breakfast. If you're still hungry with that, you can try adding more protein to your breakfast with a boiled egg or some scrambled eggs. I find that a higher protein breakfast like this in the morning really helps a lot with the rest of the day.
Avatar n tn Checked my BS this am before my breakfast - 14.1, only a handful of unsalted peanuts at 9pm last night. Breakfast - oatmeal with milk, an egg, half a Mandarin orange and coffee. Just thinking out loud........
Avatar f tn I eat breakfast, snack, lunch, another snack, and dinner. I do cheat sometimes, but my goal is to keep insulin regulated. Thanks!
469720 tn?1388149949 As you may have noticed by now, the focus of this forum is cardiovascular disease(CVD) prevention. The statistics speak for themselves. CVD is the leading cause of death in the US and worldwide. Although we have made substantial progress in the development of medications to combat the causes of CVD like high cholesterol, hypertension and diabetes; the rapid proliferation of these diseases virtually negates and medical benefit. In other words, we are treating the consequences, not the cause.
Avatar n tn It is unknown why fat accumulates in the liver, but the occurances increase in people who are morbidly obese, have alcohol or drug habits, or have diabetes. If a fatty liver is left untreated, or bad habits continue, a disease such as cirrhosis will occur and the liver may fail. Stopping the alcohol, losing weight, and a good diet and exercise program may help reduce or stop fat accumulation in the liver; there are also medications the doctor may wish to try.

Until now almost everyone is very dependent on the results of examination of liver function index (GOT, GPT). They think if the examination showed normal results index means all OK. This kind of misunderstanding was also performed by many specialists. Really surprising, doctors are supposed to provide the right knowledge in the general population, turned out to have incorrect knowledge.

But, even if you are strict with diet and exercise, there is a chance you can still become diabetic. It depends on how strong the genetic factor is. Some people train hard, and eat cleaner than you can imagine, and still develop diabetes.
