Common Questions and Answers about Diabetes in kids explained

Avatar f tn @ Kennimae- Thank you. I just hope the three hour one doesn't make me sick since its really early in the morning! I hope this one comes out better then.
Avatar n tn Hello everyone, While kebranegast is certainly entitled to his opinion, as one of the moderators in this forum with many years of experience with type 1 diabetes, I am compelled to jump in and tell anyone who may take his post to heart that type 1 diabetes can in no way be cured by marijuanna. It is a medical fact that with type 1 the beta cells are destroyed in the pancreas and require insulin to sustain your lives. Marijuanna can't cure it.
1179192 tn?1263915143 He should have an A1c test performed by a doctor to be certain about diabetes as it can be passed from parent to child. Are you seeing bubbles or foam in his urine? Differences explained here http://www.ehow.com/how-does_5486040_causes-bubbles-urine.html Bottom line, take him to a doctor asap.
Avatar n tn My son, who has had diabetes nearly 18 years, & has been in college for a full 3 years doesn't seem to take the drinking thing seriously. Though he has gotten sick at least 3x to my knowledge from it, still I see him taking much liberty with alcohol. Even when I'm out with him, such as tonight, he drank one corona and a mixed drink (long island iced tea of all things!) I don't know what to do. I hardly see him check, though I do see him whip out his kit to do his insulin.
Avatar n tn They ruled out everything, but in the same breathe they said that there was significant damage to his occipital lobe which explained the screwed up nearsightedness he was experiencing after this attack. He remembered most of the morning including the part where I gave him syrup... no diabetic that was crashing would.
Avatar n tn We caught it so early that when was not in Ketoacidosis and we did not have to put her in the Hospital. Most kids when they are diagnosed are in Ketoacidosis and have to be hospitalized for several days to a week or so. This is because the child is so sick and they parents learn how to take care of the diabetes.
Avatar n tn Dear, mr_pat3, I'm am so sorry you are having such a difficult time with your diabetes. Please know that there are many people in the same situation and don't be at all embarrassed to discuss this. I truly admire your courage to reach out. That's what we are here for. As a mother of a 27 year old son, who was diagnosed at 8, he has had the exact same control issues that you are going through. Your statement "I am going to change today" is a very sincere hope on your part I'm sure.
Avatar n tn Our daughter is in the same situation, she is 8 and was diagnosed 3 months ago. Occassionaly shy complains of pain but it is not sore to touch. It sometimes seems to be after a 'heavy' meal, e,g, including potatoes & turnips, but we haven't been able to see a pattern. Our diabetes team dismissed same as being unrelated to Type 1.
Avatar f tn my parents did not believe the doctor at the time( even though it runs in the family) and allowed me to go untreated until i was 18 and i went to a doctor on my own. i now have diabetes, and p.c.o.s as well as the hoshimoto's/hypo. im a college student, work, and live in my fiance's mothers house so we do not have a kitchen to cook in all the time. its tough to stick to a strict diet.
Avatar n tn Her weight is in her back across her shoulders, in her middle and thighs. She usually injects in her stomach and sometimes her thighs. Does site matter? Any suggestions would be so appreciated. Thank you.
119874 tn?1189759429 Week 8/24. I screamed at my kids last night (they're only 8 and 10--they're good kids who just act like kids). I'm swearing at the dog. I'm even angry with the fish--they have to be FED. I tried a couple of anti-depressants and they made me feel really depressed, mentally and physically. I don't really feel "depressed" even now. I'm just way irritable. Any advice? Is there a magic bullet (one that doesn't involve an actual gun...)? Drugs for this?
Avatar n tn But we also had some serious conversations in the car as well. We spoke about her diabetes, boys, and other important things. I truly miss her. Her funeral was friday, and i couldn't believe how many kids were there. They put lots of flowers and little stuffed animals with her. She was/is loved by many. Thanks for an ear, it does help. How old was your son? The hurt never really goes away does it? I keep pushing myself to do normal everyday things, i do it for her.
Avatar m tn Perhaps more info would help... I am 43, male, married with 2 kids, carpenter. There is a history of diabetes and alcoholism in my family and I am borderline but on the "not" side. I manage it with diet and I don't drink. I am on Wellbutrin for depression and Ritalin for chronic fatigue and nuerontin fatigue. I had an infection in the epididimus which is the tube that leads from the testicle into the stomach.
Avatar f tn I think we have similar views about kids. I don't beleive in overpampering the little darlings. When I was obsessed with Ca. native plants, I learned about the seeds that won't even germinate until they've been burnt. Fire is a natural occurence here. It renews the soil and clears out the old dead wood. It's the people that need to learn how to live with nature. Then, maybe we won't need to fight with her. LB: You always make me laugh!
1794093 tn?1357934359 okay so my in laws dont talk to me before they do anything, there are no boundaries... in the fall my SIL bought my daughters whole entire winter outfit without asking me or even talking to me about it at all... im pretty sure she didnt even have her boys winter outfits yet! and now my MIL showed up with all her spring stuff... both times ive been looking around on what to get my daughter and now AGAIN they already went ahead...

5856747 tn?1403352282 Further study showed that these were secondary to lung cancer and that her liver was also involved. In short, Nuala was doomed and there was no coming back from this. The people in ER told her quite bluntly, that she had only a few weeks to live. Nonetheless, because she had private insurance, they referred her to their in-house Oncology Department. So what did the Oncologists do?
1255151 tn?1413895426 Am hoping it means things are moving in there. On the bad news side. I had diabetes with my last pregnancy and was on insulin. Stopped after I had the baby and just intermittent monitoring of blood sugars. Anyway after they gave me dexamethasone last Monday and Tuesday my blood sugars are way high (very bad for any baby). Sent a message to my endo and just got word from him that I should start insulin already..... as they want very good control during the TTC and then the pregnancy.
Avatar n tn Yes - I get the burning in my sinuses too! I explained to my doc that it felt as though I had snorted balls of fire. I found that taking zertec or telfast (hay fever meds) helped with this, which made me start thinking that it was all some kind of allergy / sinus thing. Most of my symptoms have kind of gone, all I have left now is a bit of pain in the back of my neck, and a stuffy feeling behind my nose and left side of cheek, so I have fingers crossed that it will just go away on its own.
438165 tn?1205235676 Well, we decided in late June that I'd have my IUD removed and if we decided not to have more kids then he'd get fixed. July wasn't a "timing" month and we just planned on being happy if it happened, or didn't happen but I was still very honestly on the fence about it and had my cycle start on 8.13.07. And that was my last menstrual cycle and I am now 29 weeks along.
Avatar n tn I also experience these weird pains in my head that come for about a second and then go and come back again every 10minutes or so. These pains are in 1 area in the back of my head in about a 1 square inch area.. Any ideas???
Avatar m tn I am married and half 2 great young kids. My wife does not know I am doing this. She works in the helth care industry and knows my addictive personality and would be very mad if she knew what I was doing. When I run out and get sick she thinks I just have the flu. I want off this stuff so bad. I have put my job and my marridge and my life on the line here and it has to stop. I am ashamed of myself and find myself crying about it all the time. I am overly emotional for some reason.
Avatar n tn I'm only 29, and a little worried; reading through posts, I have no diagnosis....
Avatar f tn ) pain radiates up to jaw line into ear or bottom lip HEADACHES (Back of head, up to eyes and into temples) Nausea/vomiting with headaches Weakness in legs Numbness and tingling in arms and legs Pins and needles feeling bottom of feet (COLD) Vertigo (standing up too fast, coughing, sneezing) Clear floaters in vision Black floaters in vision that
Avatar n tn in the last two weeks i have had three blood vessels just pop in my fingers. i was not doing anything out of the ordinary. what could be causing this? should there be a cause for concern?
Avatar n tn The best way to describe the sound is like a stomach growling, only in the throat. It's incredibly embarrassing and I can't prevent it from happening. It tends to happen a lot after I drink juice or soda, but also sometimes after meals where I only drank water. Along with the gurgle I feel some light pressure in my lower throat, near my collarbone, like there's air trying to get out (no pain).
Avatar n tn I would not describe this pain as unbearable more of an annoyance. In fact I always just thought I had a stiff neck.. and would always have my kids and hubby massage the back of my neck. My husband is the one who felt the node (if that is what it is).. and, when he mentioned it, I felt it too. I have no weight loss, no night sweats, no fever, and generally feel well...
Avatar n tn I know at this age there is alot that is going on in our lives. Kids, careers etc and we tend to not focus on ourselves but on everyone else. Scary thought to think I might not be around for my kids and that I actually am doing this to myself. I just wish I could pinpoint the "IT" factor. Thanks to everyone for their posts-least I am not going lala.
Avatar f tn I had a chance to talk with the person I mentioned earlier tonight at our HepFest and he said he would be glad to talk with you. His transplant was done 18 years ago for AH which is why he contracted HCV since it was before organs and blood where screened. As a father of two himself now, he said he can empathize with what you must be going through.
Avatar m tn Im 24 weigh 140 and height 5'6. Im a mother of 3 kids... 1 of my own and 2 step kids (mykids) and I have a lot of stress in my life with my son's father... and my mother who doesnt want to have anything to do with me... she is more on my son's fathers side than anything...and she is constantly manipulating my 7yr old, which really hurts me ... so I do have stress with that constanly, and work...
