921323 tn?1268679412 Some say, why don’t we save the millions of dollars spent on drug research and instead invest them in education, legislation, and regulations that will help us eat better and exercise more? Put the money towards the health costs of the uninsured. Or, use it to fund research in diabetes, heart disease, or any of the other countless complications of obesity. But is it too early to admit defeat?
Avatar n tn For the past year, I've had chronic diarrhea, nausea, severe belching (no bloating though), nausea and vomiting off and on, low grade fevers, and my stomach makes horrible, loud watery gurgling noises all day. It all started with an "intestinal flu" that EVERYONE in my workplace contracted last March, (right after a co-worker's dog suffered an "intestinal infection" which cleared with metronidazole.).

Avatar m tn Because the presidential primary is in Iowa, the country provides heavy subsidies to corn syrup, contributing dramatically to rates of diabetes, obesity, heart disease and stroke. The Congressional Budget Office typically assesses a cost to prevention programs in any new bill, but usually does not allow the bill to count the savings that occur – they are considered too far out into the future. As a result, prevention is often left out by legislative staff, to improve the CBO score.

408795 tn?1324939275 It seems each person I tell has required a bit of education. If I wasn't able to give them the one-on-one personal touch and simply told them I had Hep C, they would have been left to their own assumptions. Each person I told needed to have misconceptions altered. I told my friends closest to me who have known me for years as the person I am. They still wondered "how on earth did you get this?" and I told them about the blood transfusion in '84.
Avatar n tn After my last bad spell, luckily I am in education and had time off during the summer and I found that the only remotely intellectual thing I could do was listen to books on tape. Somehow listening to it seemed easier than trying to read which was so frustrating, I wanted to cry. I had also always enjoyed what I considered to be my quick wit. But my reaction time in depression was so incredibly slow and I could never keep up my end in witty banter.

As an educator, my question would be to you and those that disagree with medication, do you think it is fair to a class of 28 students to have a child be a constant disruption because of their condition? After all, if your child were diabetic, would you not give him insulin?
1550149 tn?1340004330 Fortunately, current treatment strategies, including pain-relieving drugs and medications that slow joint damage, a balance between rest and exercise, and patient education and support programs, allow most people with the disease to lead active and productive lives. In recent years, research has led to a new understanding of rheumatoid arthritis and has increased the likelihood that, in time, researchers will find even better ways to treat the disease. What Causes Rheumatoid Arthritis?
Avatar f tn Your point is very valid and it occured to me numerous times since we contacted medhelp about him. He was unwilling to give an e-mail because he said he was on a "shared" computer... he had professional confidentialities and did not wish to be "exposed" in his particular profession or workplace. Nobody should be offended by your comments... I sure don't want anyone on the net tracking me down either.

Avatar f tn We knew from a very early age that my son had ADHD. We used to joke that he skipped walking and crawling and starting running at 8 months old. It took about a year after that to realize our son was different. That normal discipline would not work for him. From the early talks of diagnosing him with ADHD we swore we would never EVER put him on ADHD meds.

Avatar f tn I think people miss the point - youre not treating the disease with the drugs that are used you are treating the symptoms - you cannot treat the disease at this point.
Avatar f tn I think here in the US, it's come down to basically this, if you make more money in the workplace, or you got your money from some other means, and you can afford good health insurance, your life is worth more in this society...then someone who is of the working poor, or just plain poor...your life is valued more, that's the long and short of it. Now some people really don't have much problem with that fact, if they were honest with themselves and everybody else, but no one dares admit it...
Avatar n tn I am reading up on mercury poisoning now. Thanks for the input though. I also had glucose tests done to check for diabetes and those came back fine. I'm don't necessarily think that all the symptoms are related...but I didn't want to leave anything that was happening out, incase they were! Thanks again!

Avatar n tn First I had the condition for about 3 months and have managed to miminize it to a point where it’s much less of a problem then it was when it started. Of course it could come back. 1.
