Avatar f tn t log on to NYT, this article talks about a new research for curing diabetes. It involves stopping the attack of white blood cells on the islet cells in the pancreaes as well as killing those white blood cells. When this was done, the islet cells grew back, this is what had not been found before. JDF has recreated this finding in their own research. Dr. Denise Faustman is the doctor in the article, if you'd like to do a google search to find more info.
Avatar n tn This is just part of the article about a major donation to fight Type 1 diabetes. Here's the link as well. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A16840-2004Nov27.html Fifty-three years ago, young Bill Brehm sat quietly as a doctor warned him about the young woman to whom he had just become engaged. Avatar n tn It is also a new practice (Joslin diabetes center - one of the world'sleading diabetes management and research centres) to start all persons with diabetes on insulin instead of oral meds. Glipizide is a drug that makes your pancreas put out more insulin so it can cause lows. It can also make your pancreas burn out faster. So do research this and consider stopping this drug (in coordination with your Dr.) Metformin does not have this effect. So you can ask your Dr.

Avatar f tn I recently went to the annual meeting of the Northern California Inland Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) where I learned of Approximately 257 adults who were cured of Type 1 diabetes with the Edmonton Protocol in Canada. This protocol was pioneered by Dr. Shapiro and is the leading center for islet cell transplant. As of yet children are not candidates for the procedure and there are some kinks to be worked out before this can become a procedure for anyone.

Avatar n tn However, I have found an interesting research report by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) http://nccam.nih.gov/research/intramural/diabetes-unit.htm On that website, you can read about current research as well as results. Once again, tho', do check in with your doctor and be very wary of any *amazing* health claims, especially with respect to Type 1 diabetes, which still has no known cures.

Avatar f tn Greetings doctor I am actually doing a research paper on HIV for school and with so much info online from one end of the spectrum to the other I figure I would ask a specialist directly a few questions so here it goes... 1-with testing now a days would you consider 6-8 weeks conclusive? 2-do you believe rapid tests are just as reliable as lab based? 3-do you feel oral rapid tests are just as good as blood? 4-what are the most common symptoms you see with onset of HIV?

I am a 44 y/o female, not overweight, thyroid levels fine, previous but corrected anemia, who started on exactly January 8th, experiencing skipped beats. These start shortly after getting up, last most of the day, and calm down in the evening. Prior to this, I have never had any cardiac issues with the exception of rapid heart rate when I was anemic.

Avatar m tn t just infiltrated hospitals and clinics -- it has taken over the medical education process too. You see, each year, doctors must take refresher courses to stay abreast of the latest "advances" in medicine. And these courses are funded almost solely by Big Pharma.
