Common Questions and Answers about The diabetes education group

diabetes

Avatar f tn I don't have personal experience with this one, but I work in health care. Is there a diabetes education clinic or group in your area? They can be very helpful in helping you control your sugar levels. Some women can control it with food but not all. That all depends on your results. Your Dr will give you guidance as far as if you need insulin or another medication. But it will be alright, you have a diagnoses and this is something that is treatable. Take care.
Avatar n tn (Weight Watchers also has a separate diabetes group if you're interested but I think the other suggestions I've listed are sufficient.) Remember, conquering this condition is more of a marathon than a sprint. Good luck and keep us informed!
Avatar f tn My HMO has a nutritionist who never returned my calls; she even ignored the e-mails from the diabetes education nurse urging her to get in touch with me. If anyone has a daily menu plan for diabetics seeking to lose weight, please let me know. Thank you.
Avatar f tn I have diabetes as well. It's probably caused by a combination of heredity and the hcv. The most important thing to do is to get a glucose meter and use it one and/or two hours after meals to see how various menus affect your husband. In general, it's ideal to be below 120 by the time 2 hours have passed. There are all sorts of guidelines - either at the American Diabetes Assn.
Avatar n tn Where did you get your information? Group B Strep is NOT sexually transmitted and can not be sexually transmitted. It is not "contagious" except that it can pass to a baby while being born and passing through the canal/vagina. (If the mother has not been properly treated with antibiotics during labor) Group B Strep is just "there" in more than 25-40% of people.
Avatar n tn org or ask her doctor or the hospital staff if they know of support groups at the hospital. Maybe talking to others in her same situation would help. Maybe she ought to see a therapist and figure out why she does not want to change her lifestyle and habits. It sounds as if she is depressed. Having goals for myself helped me start to take better care of myself. I went through periods where it seemed useless and hopeless. I went to college and then went on to get my master of education.
Avatar f tn As all this was unfolding a group of ME/CFS experts was doing the first external review of the CDC program in ten years and we take a critical look at the report they issued during this rather turbulent period." The latest info on the latest CDC games with CFS funding: http://phoenix-cfs.org/Dec08CDC.html I suspect that politics play a huge role in these illnesses. Remember Gulf War Syndrome ? It was real... then it wasn't.... and then it was and then it wasn't again.
5562826 tn?1369943481 My husband has Hep C and Cirrhosis. Yes, people can lead a full and healthy life, with cirrhosis, if it is in the beginning stage and the liver is still working well. As the liver becomes more scarred, people can have more health concerns and may have more symptoms that can be managed for the most part with diet, medications, and care. If the liver continues to get more scarring, people get progressively more sick and may require hospitalization, procedures, or even a transplant.
876473 tn?1240167269 I don’t think the people in the insurance industry are bad people. I think vilifying people is the easy way out. The people there feel like they are doing the right thing, and are no less moral than me. But I do not think the way to fix our system is through letting them do their business as usual in the name of “free market.” Defending the current system of insurance ignores some obvious problems in our system: 1.
Avatar f tn I don't understand your thinking on percentages. In your comments about the CPPT studies you wrote; "It was expected that the trial results would show a huge drop in CAD related instances but it did not. However, statin producers still took the small percentage and claimed it as revolutionary" The actual results quoted from the study were; "The cholestyramine group experienced a 19% reduction in risk (p less than .
408795 tn?1324939275 "Despite Mr Liver's stats" I'm sure you meant to say the stats in Mr Liver's post as they are not my stats. The sample size was over 2100 people, including infected,non-infected, and physicians. With over half of the participants in the survey either doctors or infected individuals, you would expect a fairly knowledgeable group when it came to HCV.
356518 tn?1322267242 At present, there is no cure for PD, but a variety of medications provide dramatic relief from the symptoms according to the National Institute or Neurological Disorders and Stroke. The most common medication is Levodopa, which dramatically helps many of the most disabling motor symptoms. THE MANY MYTHS AND SECRETS: One of the many secrets of PD is that it's much more than just a movement disorder.
Avatar f tn It has been used medicinally to heal the liver since the middle of the 1st century(its origin is in Europe). There is all sorts of info out there- but just remember, like any manufactured drug that gives certain people side effects, herbs can as well. Always consult a reputable physician before taking anything. Since this virus is attacking your liver - I have chosen to FIGHT back.
1852058 tn?1320162300 The Western blot is useless if the bacteria is in the tissues, not the bloodstream. PLUS, the immune system is so overwhelmed, it dosent know what antibodies to make since the surface proteins are changing so often. Listen to my advice, I'm not a Dr but I have been through what you have and am getting better. Also, get a HHV6 IFA test for antibodies and a CD57. HHV6 virus reactivates when you are immunosuppressed and causes MS like symptoms.
Avatar m tn There are now college courses in Hepatitis C treatment. Tons of education being offered. The Hepatitis C information sites are popping up to assist those seeking help with hepatitis C treatment options. But the recommendation to test baby boomers is a recommendation. Its not a mandate. I know where people just refuse to be tested. Where the doctor didn't even ask the person about being tested for Hepatitis C. I had to demand that my baby boomer spouse be tested.
Avatar n tn Iam currently in the military. I have had diabetes since the age of 9 and I am 23 years old. I am in the Ohio Military Reserves. It is a State level military that supports the national guard. It is a volinteer unit and we only get paid if we are activated. Mt life long drea mwas to serve in the United States Army. My father was active duty, and I was born on a military base. I can trace my family back in the military to the revolutionary war. So the military is a big importance in my life.
Avatar n tn My Father was born with T1 diabetes. I have read the majority of the comments in here and some are way off base. T1 diabetes here in Canada is called insulin dependant. T2 is diet and/or pill controlled. My father is now 63 years old and by record so far is the oldest "surviving" diabetic in Canada. He is having major complications at this time though and is currently in Hospital with Respiratory Acidosis.
Avatar f tn Evaluating all your lab work and fitting the pieces together to determine the most likely diagnosis will require your physician's education, training and experience. Our body works together in unison to maintain a healthy balance. One problem can and does affect a variety of organ functions. I assume your physician is trying to determine that ONE problem that is revealing itself in your abnormal lab finding. Trusting in him and your God right now is very important.
365714 tn?1292202708 (I have trouble reading music and keeping pace with the rest of the group. Even now in church, I rather quietly listen than try to read and sing.) Gym was difficult because I'd have to listen to directions and often I'd only remember one step at a time. The detention I got was hinged upon, this class. The teacher said put your jump rope away. I did as told, only she meant later, not right at the moment. She told me I got a detention since I filled every letter of my name.
17568 tn?1424977159 alt suggestions including a medical intuitive and understand the desire to protect against quackery... BUT I also have found this group of incredibly knowledgeable members very helpful in an open discussion toward MedHELP. And lord knows I need help. MWAH.
Avatar n tn You will find the webpage of the group with some info about the disease, along with info on how to join the email list.
Avatar m tn In my own personal experience, even though my bite was over 20 years (my children remembered it from when they were toddlers) when it finally decided to rear its ugly head, the brain fog was one of the first symptoms. I tried to hide the fact to the family but it finally got to the point that I couldn't. I am also on disability. My fog and pain started to improve as I started treatment 18 months ago. It hasn't gone away yet but it has much improved.
203342 tn?1328740807 I know it was on the ballot for several different areas and even in my area on legalizing it for medical purposes or banning it. I looked briefly into it and was impressed by not only how much it may help people (medically) but how carefully it is regulated when it is used medically. It is strictly done in a doctor's office and carefully monitored. It's not like they are going into a back alley somewhere and buying this from drug dealers. They also appear to monitor the amount and usage.
Avatar n tn The shot last's up to 6 months, but I need to ask how often I can receive the treatment. I played softball last night and I had absolutely no knee pain and I was able to run and slide, something I couldn't do for a few years now. It has made playing soooo much more enjoyable. I wish that I had known about this treatment sooner.
Avatar n tn Currently, it is bothering me really bad on my lower abdomen and the top of my buttocks, all the way around my body. The feeling seems to be more intense on the left side of my body though. Again, it feels very sensitive to the touch, almost like I have been sunburned and it really bothers me when my clothes brush up against it. There is absolutely no redness, bumps or lesions of any kind. The pain doesn't feel very deep either, it is just on the skin.
Avatar n tn When 1st started the Effexor I did some research and saw that people had gained weight but I figured the depression was the bigger of the 2 demons. I do feel in control of my depression but I seem to have no control over my weight. I am hopeful that after I am off the drug 100% that my body will return to some kind of normal - fingers crossed! Please everyone keep posting - I want to know how things are going for you too. Thanks.
2126606 tn?1346348724 If you are a parent and you’re concerned that your child may be abusing heroin, it is very important to keep an open dialogue and discuss the dangers of the drug with your children. If you have any questions regarding heroin or other opiates, please leave a comment as I am happy to answer your questions or address any concerns.
Avatar f tn They will then travel to Portland to do their shopping because the sales taxes are cheaper! Who should pay taxes for the war in Iraq, education, infrastructure and our trillion dollar debt that we now have? Thanks to the Bush administration, we are now in serious debt.
338416 tn?1420049302 I can't imagine why she told me this. Quix tells me that a vagal response is the opposite of the problem - the blood vessels expand, and the person usually faints. So let that be a lesson to all of you - your Shared Solutions nurse is not the ultimate authority on what is going on with your body. However, she was right about the cause - the injection can sometimes hit a blood vessel. What the heck? This was news to me.
