diabetes

Avatar m tn 30, and give her insulin to cover the dinner carbs. Today a visiting nurse came to the house after school and when told us if we give our daughter a correction at 3:30 we cannot give her dinner at 5:00 pm but must wait three hours after we give the insulin. This is not what the doctor said. What should we do?
Avatar n tn I have meet with the 504 coordinator as well, he was at all those meetings( NO HELP). He is securely in the pocket of the district . As for the nurse she is only there one day a week and I told the VP I would rather she had no contact with my son. They didn't even think what she said was neccesarily a bad thing ugh! He has 6 teachers this year and one said to me the other day that he will be over this party soon and that will be good, when he is regular? what the $%#@& does that mean?
Avatar n tn Sweetheart, I understand how you feel. I was a labor and delivery nurse when I was in the military, and I found out that I was diabetic in 98 after passing out in the Operating room during a C-section (not a good thing). I was working 12's (7pm-7am) and my doctor had me to come off of that schedule at that time. At that Time I Knew nothing of the pump, but at the time even THAt would've been overwhelming for me.
Avatar n tn Diane, You're facing a tough situation, indeed, and it seems as tho' your son can benefit from more rigorous management of his diabetes. His control is poor if his blood sugar is so high -- so often as to miss more than 18 days of school in a year because of it. I dev'd diabetes as a teen (about 35 years ago now) before the days of home glucose monitoring, a1c tests, or intensive diabetes management. I can't remember missing school or work because of high blood sugar.
Avatar f tn Ah, sorry about the gestational diabetes. I love the attitude your approaching it with though, and have no doubt all will be just fine. Good to hear everything else is going so well. And although those are long hours on the weekend, I would love to do that...get 40 hours in in 2 days and be done with it. How perfect is that. Good to see you checking in, and take care!!
Avatar n tn This link on hCG is a must read and contradicts all the marketing hype and mumbo-jumbo that is abound on the inet. http://tinyurl.com/hCG-hoax. That's TINYURL [tinyurl *******/hCG-hoax] Here's an excerpt: "One of the things I always tell people when they ask me about the latest diet pill or program is this: If it REALLY worked, everyone would know about it. Seriously—everyone really would.
Avatar n tn My daughter has Type 1 diabetes. When blood sugar is too high, it can build ketones up in the blood which are potentially fatal if not treated. The way to get rid of these ketones is by lowering the blood sugar that caused them, AND by flushing them out via the urinary tract.
Avatar n tn You should contact there parents or diabetes nurse
Avatar n tn I have a student in my class with diabetes when she arrives to school she goes to the nurse and gets her blood sugar checked out then she goes at 10:30,12:00 and 2:15 she returns back to class if everything is alright when she arrives and does not like what we are doing she will get an attitude and refuse to do anything and try to walk out the class. when we try to stop her she gets very angry and fights and says very mean things to us. Is her attuitude caused by her diabetes?
Avatar n tn My 13 year old grandson has just developed Type 1 diabetes. In the hospital a nurse told him he would not be able to use chewing gum (even sugar-free gum) any more as this might interfere with his digestive process. I can find nothing to substantiate this on the internet and another diabetes advisor had never heard of this. Does anyone know if this is correct or not, as at the moment it is the thing he is most gutted about, having taken everything else in his stride.
Avatar n tn s diabetes is a disability that is protected under federal law. You need to contact the school system and get what's called a Section 504 plan in place to deal with the academic, attendance and medical issues. Here is a link that deals with 504s: http://www.diabetes123.com/504/ I have been very lucky with my 8-year-old son. He was diagnosed two years ago, and his teachers and the school have been very accomodating.
Avatar n tn The effects of diabetes on the body, however, are about the same for type 1 and type 2 if good control is not maintained. The diet concerns, eating healthy foods in reasonable quantities, are the same. My answers: 1. 42 years 2. Some years yes, others no 3. Yes, my pancreas no longer produces insulin and the constant variation in blood glucose is slowly destroying my body.
Avatar n tn Docs will often focus on the physical demands and the routines of diabetes; be sure to explore the emotional support issues, too. I have had Type 1 for over 35 years. I was diabetic for some of HS, all of college, and all of grad school. I've travelled the world, am happily married, am a college professor and an active community volunteer.
330806 tn?1194882349 Go to adult diabetes page and see "Diet, weight loss, diabetes"...the go to gastro forum and read up. Get pH test strips from health food store and see if his body is acidic. If so, Wheat grass. NO SUGAR. (sugar feeds fungus in the body) Honey instead. No breads...breads have yeast and mycotoxins. Start him on a fresh fruit/vegetable diet. No microwaving foods...READ AND KNOW EACH AND EVERY CHEMICAL YOU ARE LETTING HIM PUT IN HIS BODY. MSG has 13 different names and is deadly.
Avatar n tn I am a school nurse with a diabetic student who has trace to moderate ketones and sugar in the 300 range. The student has only vomited a couple of times Mom says she has called the MD and they say only give water. The student was here at school yesterday, and she is at home today. What would the treatment be for this case?
Avatar n tn The blotchy spots could be circulation as well as the cold. I think your doctor should do a more thorough test and check you for diabetes, and then you will know. They can do a test which will test the past several months to see what your average blood glucose has been. I think I would suggest that. You might want to look up the side effects of atenolol also.
Avatar m tn I have Type 1 Diabetes with an insulin pump, can i get a job as a nurse in the US?
Avatar n tn Yes I actually interviewed the nurses in the schools, before I went out with the realtor. If the nurse was not willing to do the correct things I was not moving to that area. We were lucky to move to a system where all the nurses are very knowledgeable in diabetes and are proactive in the care of the kids. Another thing that has helped is to have a 504 plan in place and to make sure that the school is following the plan and if they are not them to take it to a higher level.
Avatar f tn Someone told me the story of how they became a cna nurse at 16, and took it because thats simple but also gets in time experience with nursing for whatever type nurse you want to be. Anyone else a nurse and want to share there story?
Avatar f tn And I think ive figured it out. I love this. And ive been taking classes on birth and im falling in love. Not even a question. Just thought id share, any other teen moms still finishing high school and planning on college for what.?

Avatar m tn I am a 16 year old male who goes to high school and doesnt have the greatest diet, I often eat out and dont think about the consequences, I am not overweight at all, rather in an athletic form due the sports i used to play (i quit to focus on school). 222135 tn?1236488221 Glad to see you back on the forum but I am so very sorry about the diabetes and needing insulin. I hope the nurse is nice tomorrow. Heather used to take drugs for diabetes and she will hopefully be here to help. I hope you don't have to go on leave from your job. Are you able to use your sick time all up first before being forced to go out? Or all of your vacation time?
Avatar f tn Every emotion in the world fell on me. I asked the diabetic how was his day at school and how was his bs today, this is something I do every single day he is out of my sight. So he began with "It was really low at school today and I don't know why?" I then asked about breakfast to give him the chance to tell me what had happen. He did not say a word about the sweets. I then asked him if he knew why it was so low.
Avatar n tn Hi! I'm also a parent of a preteen (12 yr old girl), who's also having serious mood swings and other health issues only 5-6 months into this disease. I've been dealing with an ignorant school system, who refused her any accomodations to assist her in keeping up with school. She's missed on average 15 days per quarter, which is too much.
Avatar n tn Two of the three have finished high school and are doing fine now, but the seventh grade was the hardest on our oldest because she would forget her assignments at school or would not turn them in after we helped her complete them. We got her teachers to send notes home with assignments written down. I would talk to his teachers and see if he is having a conflict with another student or some members of the staff.
Avatar f tn My husband took my son to see the nurse practitioner and was told these reading were normal and virtually told him off for testing my son's blood sugars and advised us not to test him anymore, which we did despite him still exhibiting the symptons on and off. He always complains of being hungry even after just having had a meal. He has lost 5lbs in weight recently and last night actually asked my husband to test his sugars has didn't feel right.
