Avatar n tn i am on 450 mgs venlafaxine, 150mg quatipine at night and have prn 3x .25 quatipine during the day. venlafaxine isn't working anymore. I have been given 2 options.. option 1. taper very slowly over a very long period of time and take other meds to stablize me, option 2. go back to the psych ward and under supervision come off venlafaxine which then is going to be replaced by another anti dep.
Avatar f tn I had been on Venlafaxine for a number of years. First, at 75 mg and then eventually down to 32.5 mg. I consulted my doctor and at my request, decided I would discontinue the medication. She suggested I cut my dosage in half every two days. This did not work as I felt very ill and decided to cut dosage every two-three weeks. Three months later, I am off the medication completely. However, ever since I started decreasing the dosage, my mood and emotions have been unsteady, to stay the least.
Avatar n tn To stop medication (If you really have a depressive dissorder) will only result in the Depression returning. I think the main problem is that AD medication is WAY over prescribed now days. Often these medications are prescribed to people that have good reason to be down and depressed. Medication is not the best way to treat "situational types" of depression.
929549 tn?1266444620 The symptoms you describe are not only withdrawal symptoms, they are also side effects of venlafaxine. There is a newer medication that is very similar to venlafaxine called Pristiq that you may tolerate better. Please make an appointment with your physician to discuss your treatment options.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg for 14 years and had tried several times to come off this antidepressant, without success. VENLAFAXINE really helped my depression and anxiety, however it has some nasty side effects and is VERY difficult to get off. Although I've been off the drug for a couple of months, I still feel pretty rough most days. I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine?
Avatar f tn I was recently withdrawn from Venlafaxine 300mgs. bd and had a rough time with sweats and feeling freezing along with nervous system side effects. My GP prescribed me Duloxitine 20mgs. a couple of weeks ago but they didn't appear to be making any difference so I stopped them a week ago. My sister has depression and takes Amitriptylline with good effect. Do you think I ought to request the same from my GP?
Avatar n tn After suffering from depression for about 9 years, I recently had another episode and my medication of 2 years at the time (Seroxat) stopped working. I was then put on Citalopram (another SSRI) and Propranolol. Citalopram dissagreed with my stomach causing abdominal pains and diahorrea. They switched the Citalopram ro Zispin (Mirtazapine) which zombified me completely, and I had to come of off these after only three days.
Avatar n tn Can anyone help??? I have been on venlafaxine for 4 years and after my recent visit to the doctor she advised me to cut down for three weeks on the venlafaxine and then start on mirtazapine 15mg. In my infinite wisdom I thought I would cut down the venlafaxine in my own way and not bother with the mirtazapine. I thought what is the point of cutting out one med to go on another as I'm keen to be med free. This is now third day without any medication I feel ill.
Avatar f tn Though globus could result both from stress/ anxiety/ depression or medication use, pharyngitis is unlikely to be a side effect of the medication. Hope the information is helpful. Take care!
Avatar f tn Has anyone been given this for nerve pain? I am just about to start this medication. I am already taking Avonex.
Avatar f tn For the month of June I was on Venlafaxine for my anxiety and depression, if any one has taken it before they will understand why I couldn't deal with it and was taken off it. Since then I have not been on any medication, but my anxiety hasn't been around like it used to. It used to be so bad it would interfere with my life, now it seems to have been replaced by depersonalization. I understand depersonalization is a side effect of Venlafaxine, but can it cause it?
309783 tn?1271961829 I am feeling much better but think it would be irresponsible to stop this medication. I never want to go back to feeling the anxiety and depression I felt before taking Venlafaxine. Does anyone have any advice?
Avatar m tn Hi there, been going through various medication regimes now for the last 3 years after me depression 'insidiously' crept up on me to the extent that all the nicer part of me was gone and that was just getting by, carefully avoiding being 'out in the open' and retreating into myself.
540093 tn?1279825434 I started taking 75mg of venlafaxine yesterday around 12pm and I noticed my pupils were instantly dilated and I have endless energy. Honestly I feel GREAT and am ready to take on the world... but not sleep. It's 6:17am and I haven't had a wink of sleep yet. Will this problem get better in time?
Avatar f tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/Depression/is-generic-venlafaxine-the-same-as-effexor/show/1094320 I emailed my doctor to swap me over to the Brand Name Effexor no matter what it costs and I'm hoping he is okay doing so. I will let everyone know how this all turns out! The sad fact now is that after all these turn of events, my fiancé is content with just one baby. I know its because of all that I've put him through and I really want another one in a few years.
Avatar f tn I have now tapered off all the medication with my brothers help over the past 6 months. The venlafaxine has been the hardest drug to get off. All the symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, attacks, seizures and cognitive impairment are gone post-surgery. A simple referral by a clinician at the initial presentation of my symptoms would have proved my problem was biological and not psychological.
Avatar m tn Seeing as this is probably your first medication for depression/anxiety you are going to have withdrawal. Sometimes you may feel more anxious then before you started the med. I would take it slower. Gradual , at a slower pace. 10 percent at a time may be right for you. Or you made need a slower percent. If you truly feel you are not in need of the med any longer, then just remember this too shall pass.
Avatar m tn In addition, once you begin taking it, if you DO develop these side effects, it would be difficult to know whether they’re actually caused by the medication itself or by your depression, since sexual side effects are very common in people with depression. Realize that it takes a few months for your body to adjust to any anti-depressant.
Avatar n tn As was noted in other responses, severe fatigue could be a symptom of the depression or could be overdosing. When I started medication, my dr. started me on very low doses and then inched me up every few days until I got a good response without sedation. I responded to Effexor but got high blood pressure from it; also lost sexual response. Switched to Wellbutrin -- had no discontinuation response to Effexor probably because I was simultaneously starting on Wellbutrin.
Avatar f tn I have been on venlafaxine for a year 37.
Avatar m tn Serotonin plays a role in both depression and anxiety, while norepinephrine is kind of like one of the body's "uppers" that stimulates the down that depressed people have. If you don't suffer from depression, this could be stimulating and make you more anxious, so just be on the lookout for that. Quitting can also be difficult, so when you're ready for that, make sure you're properly prepared and your shrink is properly prepared. Good luck. And I'm not the doctor.
Avatar n tn I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it. Despite not having any depression / emotional symptoms, if I am destined to live with this maddening effect for the rest of my life, it could seriously lead to depression. I wish I was kidding. Does this side effect of discontinuation persist? Will it eventually go away?
Avatar f tn Went to Dr's they said it was anxiety, which it could be cause I am a long term sufferer of depression. Anyway to cut a long story short I changed medications to venlaxafine which worked well with my mood but left me with some nasty side effects, a year on still getting sore throats and lump in throat sensation with choking and gagging could it be a side effect of my venlafaxine?
Avatar f tn Saw neurologist today who said there was a small palsy there probably brought in by fatigue. He said steriods wouldn't be useful and prescribed me Venlafaxine for the fatigue. Upon reading dosage, instructions etc it looks like it is precribed for anxiety and deepression. Has anyone else been prescribed this for any other reason? I am not depressed or anxious but very fatigued...... Sharon.
Avatar m tn Hey, I know this has nothing to do with any medication you are taking. The best thing I can recommend is just to exercise as much as you can. Try and keep yourself busy all the time. Try to help people as much as you can e.g chores etc. The most important thing is to build your confidence up. Sorry that I never answered anything to do with your medication. Just trying to help. Suicide doesn't end the chances of life getting any worse, it eliminates the possibility of it ever getting better.
