Avatar n tn My mother is 85 and has been diagnossed with clinical depression. Compounding this, she recently had a stroke. We tried 10mg Paxil for 40 days and it seemed to help but she developed insomnia, diarea and seemed hyper (although she was also on antibiotics at the same time). Is there any information which compares the results of the various SSRIs on depression including the side affects of each?
Avatar n tn I have had a few patient who had been treated for cancers (not related to their liver or hep c) who then were put on treatment for Hep C. Comparison..none. Full blown chemo is by far worse than the hep c treatment. Just my 2 cents from my three patients in this situation. Gi.

Avatar n tn Could it be possible that I may have no withdrawal symptoms from coming off 360mg a day of ms contin ?? I take the medication daily and have been taking it daily for over 2 years. Any info on this will be greatly appreciate.
Avatar f tn Hello I'm just curious what kind of medication those with ms are taking? What some feel is best and why and for those that choose to go un medicated why they have decided that? I'm really not sure how to approach this and I've done a lot of researching on the internet but I'd prefer to get feedback from people first hand.

Avatar f tn Most chronic pain patients are dependant on their opioid medication such that if the medication is abruptly stopped, withdrawal symptoms would occur...the same symptoms happen to an addict as well. Difference is chronic pain patients in withdrawal don't crave their medications psychologically for the "high", they simply don't feel well.
Avatar m tn According to studies I've read, it is supposed to be the most suitable for clinical depression while on treatment. I don't know about off treatment. Here is a link for the comparison of the two: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15160261 Escitalopram versus citalopram: the surprising role of the R-enantiomer. 440680 tn?1205685975 Anti-depression drugs do more than take depression away - they numb ALL your feelings. So I don't think increasing your dosage is going to be the answer. Have you ever considered that the anxiety and fear you're feeling is perfectly normal? That it's not neccessarily something you need to medicate? It's cool that you've been trying to force yourself to socialize, but maybe since you already know that groups make you uncomfortable, try socializing more one on one.
901137 tn?1267629789 Mike....all the medication and symtom information u have been given are all very 'individual' opinions...but the bottom line everyone is urging is for u to see someone TRAINED that u feel comfortable opening up too. Interesting to me is u keep referring to your wife and sons as well adjusted happy people yet you haven't opened up to them and they need u to do this...
154927 tn?1205246451 Hi LadyE, I don't know how far along you are on tx, but treatment can cause severe depression, and it can also cause insomnia (and depression can cause insomnia and insomnia can cause depression ) ... and then WHAM - it can catch up to you :) I can remember times when it was all I could do not to break down and cry in the vegetable section of the grocery store if a sad song was playing over the speakers. God those were the days. Cry at the drop of a hat and never knew why.
Avatar n tn Everyone I have ever known or heard of that got off any opiates was left with severe depression. Is this a standard side effect and how long will it last and how is it best treated? My friend's nephew just went to an addiction doctor who gave him buprenorphine injections and other scripts to get off pain pills. When he asked about an anti-depressant the doctor said "no mood enhancers for addicts." This seems unusual to me.
778037 tn?1377989800 I am on four different medications for bipolar disorder, and despite taking the pills every day as directed, I still had breakthrough anxiety/depression/panic yesterday morning, to the point where I needed to take an additional medication prescribed to me for panic attacks. Should I call my primary care?
685931 tn?1226969988 Look at it this way, if you had diabeties you would take medication for that right? Depression is an illness too and it does'nt make you a weak person for taking medication. All of us here understand what your going through. Many of us have been at the point your at right now. I have myself. But it's not the answer. You can get the help you need. I'm here if you want to talk.
579258 tn?1250652943 Did not see a place to clarify in my tracker .. so wanted to make a note here. Migraine - early am - Was high intensity and used hydrocodone. Migraine - evening - Was one step lower in intensity and used tylenol with codeine Migraine - continued evening - One step lower yet in intensity and chose Advil. Hoping that going to sleep with Advil will help it go away .. hate to use prescription meds unless I have to .. it's always a gamble at this point.
Avatar m tn Hello, I'm a 23 year old male, and I'm concerned that I might possibly have some of the symptoms of prodromal schizophrenia, but the symptoms are also fairly similar to anxiety/depression. I was hoping that I could get some information that could possibly put my mind at ease. I haven't really had a history of major mental distresses or illness, outside of panic attacks and general anxiety that set in when I was 19.
Avatar n tn So I have had pretty serious anxiety and depression issues for as long as I can remember. I am 22 years old, and I have spent everyday of those 22 years obsessing over things that are completely out of my control. I have been diagnosed/misdiagnosed as having multiple disorders; GAD, agoraphobia, borderline personality disorder, and finally as manic depressive, which I think is the most accurate.
Avatar f tn I was just wondering if anyone has been on birth control pills and have suffered from anxiety or depression issues? I have been on the pill for 11yrs now and cant take how I am feeling anymore. I went on the pill for irregular periods, but since then I have been feeling blah, libido has decreased severely, I have sinus problems- I found out I have no allergies- so I think it is related to axiety, I worry constantly about everything; I get so nervous I get light headed sometimes.
Tbd But however common or uncommon it is and however uncertain the definition of it is, any depression is too much. As a comparison, one of the groups with the highest suicide rates today are veterans, but this could include those with pain or injuries or anxiety or other things people choose not to live with -- again, depression is only one reason to commit suicide. So the focus should be on how awful it is that anyone has it, and trying to find a way to cure it or prevent it.
950947 tn?1246136145 unlike anything I'd experienced before. The closest I can come to comparison would HAVE to be the one MAJOR panic attack I had about 15 YEARS ago! No fear apparent to me, it was simply brought on as my body's physical response to entirely TOO much stress in my life. The major difference between the two being the rage I felt this last time. After it "passed", (lasted about 24 hours.
Avatar f tn Hi everyone! I hope 'some' people remember me here. :-) (past "Nickiesworld" - having problems with old account so I just made a new one) On medhelp, in the past, I discussed my MRI's and the bad experiences I've had in the last 23 years with doctors and being ill. This is gonna be a long one, and I apologize ahead of time, but I really need some advice here, because I'm about to throw in the towel and give up on doctors completely.
Avatar f tn I'm so embarrassed, I'm afraid to even tell my own psychiatrist. I have been diagnosed with OCD, ADHD, anxiety, and manic depression. I have been on all sorts of medication but my doctor limited me to Zoloft. It's really hard to stop picking on my blankets and I don't know what to do...
Avatar f tn Antidepressants -- are they safe during pregnancy? * MayoClinic.com: Depression (major depression) * MayoClinic.com: Antidepressants -- Selecting one that's right for you Antidepressant medication is just one part of the equation in addressing women's mental health during pregnancy, notes Oberlander, who says depression in pregnancy is a "huge public health issue" with lasting implications for women and their children.
6720269 tn?1384113708 One day I was reading an article in the Share International* magazine about how others are overcoming depression without the use of poisonous medication of which little or nothing is known about. I began engaging my life in the service to others who's mental and emotional condition were by far worse than my own small petty problems.
874521 tn?1424120397 Perhaps the medication isn't working as well on depression as it is on mania and they could adjust, change or add another medication within their discretion but keep track of what goes on with him and when so you can directly let them know
880242 tn?1241286605 When the doctor tested me he discovered I not only had ADD but also Learning Disabilities. And yes depression but mostly because of my self esteem from not understanding my problems. First I was put on a low dose of Ritalin. Something changed in me. I became very interested in a new way of learning. My mind opened up full throttle on the racetrack. I was not far behind.
Avatar n tn Would appreciate a recommendation. Dr. thinks my atypical depression may be bi-polar II. What about lithium? Would really appreciate some recommendations. Thank you very much.
Avatar f tn The left side of my Thyroid is 5 cm and the right side is 3 cm. (Im not sure how that rates in comparison) But I have to have a Total Thyrodectomy tomorrow at noon and I am a little concerned. Reading about the meds I'd have to take for the rest of my life and the risk of osteoperosis as I age scares me a bit. I know its probably not the worse thing that could happen, but its still unnerving. Does anyone have advice on how to get the best possible start right after surgery?
