Depo provera vs birth control pill

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera vs birth control pill

depo-provera

Avatar f tn I have tried the pill, which I would forget about, depo provera made me bleed for over a year straight and had to be put on different hormone pills and iron supplements.
Avatar f tn To be honest i never used a birth control before i got pergo is there a way i can change to a different birth control ?
Avatar f tn I don't know the actual percentages, but among people we counsel it seems to take much less time for women on the pill to start ovulating again and get pregnant vs ones using Depo-Provera. This is a generalization but I would say return to ovulation with using your typical birth control pill is from 1 - 3 months. With Depo it's more common to be between 3 - 18 months or longer.
Avatar f tn @nessa The copper iud is hormone free, the depo provera shot is progestin only, as is the mini pill. Those are all good options. Iud is long term, depo is every twelve weeks, pill is daily.
Avatar f tn If you were my patient, I would advise you that the depo provera injection is a very good and convenient form of birth control. Many patients use if for years and love it. Often there is some irregular bleeding initially when the shot is first begun, but after that most people don't have much more than infrequent spotting. If you get your shots on time the method is approximately 99% effective. I DO advise my patients to take a calcium supplement while on Depo. Good luck!
634745 tn?1256844310 This is something you really need to discuss with your doctor - they can best advise you on all your options (especially considering your blood disease). Most forms of birth control do not adversely affect your fertility (the depo provera injection being the exception - you can experience delays in conceiving after using depo provera) but honestly your doctor is the best person to talk to - they know your personal history and situation.
Avatar f tn Hello, Depo-Provera is a long-acting progestin (hormone) form of birth control. If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps.

Avatar f tn According to something I read about it once, if a woman becomes pregnant while using Depo Provera, and continues her pregnancy, there may be an increased risk of premature birth. But there's so much conflicting stuff, you would be better to talk to a doctor about it. They could give you better answers. You should have been tested for pregnancy prior to getting the shot though.
10228675 tn?1423881456 I had the depo shot years ago and gained a ton, i also had the IUD but i got really bad cists when i had it, im curious about the arm implant.
280418 tn?1306325910 I stopped the pill and started Depo Provera injections, and the migraines ceased. Now, 10 years later, they started again. I have had 3 in two weeks. Interestingly enough, I had a couple this summer (hadn't been on the pill in years). I started the pill (Yaz) this Jan. and now the migraines have really increased in frequency. I stopped the pill last night to see if they at least decrease in frequency. Does any research support an increase/onset of migraines with taking the pill?
Avatar f tn How long after giving birth did you go on birth control and what method did you use? Also, is it safe to begin birth control while breastfeeding?
Avatar f tn Has anyone used any type of birth control in life apart from condoms ??
Avatar f tn I've never been on birth control before and now I'm seriously thinking about it and I'm terrified and lost :'( I don't want to put anything harmful in my body that can impact my ability to have children in the future or alter my moods for the worse. I know it's different for everybody by this is something I'm truly clueless about. As an advance society we have very poor birth control and I feel like no one cares.
Avatar f tn I hate the side effects of hormonal birth control like the pill, and my mom's IUD migrated, so she had to have it surgically removed, so I'm scared of those, too. I haven't decided what I'm going to do yet. They said I could get my tubes tied, but I want another baby in a few years, so that's out of the question. No clue what to do yet.

Avatar n tn And as for trouble getting pregnant afterward different types of birth control work differently for different people I was pregnant within 2 months of stopping my shots and easily got pregnant with my second son also after resuming and stopping my depo shots again. I feel that it is a great birth control and have recommended it to people its very effective and most people I know have only had minor side affects such as spotting for a little while.
Avatar f tn You can't use estrogen based birth control or combination birth control. Progesterone only is fine.
