Depo provera for hot flashes

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera for hot flashes

Avatar f tn I recently started having hot flashes and I wake up at night sweat profusely. Once I sit outside for a couple minutes I am fine. Also I have noticed since I have been on the shot I am very anxious. I would like someones opinion if their is a way to counteract these side effects or if I should just switch? I just really like the depo because so is very reliable for my-self. Please I would love some opinions.
Avatar f tn i have tried everything, from lupron, to laparoscopies, to yaz, to smoking marijuana - currently i am on Depo Provera and have been for the past year and a half. I am noticing a lot of side affects from this as time goes on, and unfortunately for me this has been the only thing that even remotely helps, and i still have a lot of pain.
Avatar n tn The depo shot can mess your menstrual cycles for quite a while.I don't know anything about the provera and hot flashes. You really need to discuss this issue with your gynecologist.Has your gynecologist checked your hormone levels?Or any type of blood work?Make an appointment with your gynecologist.He/orShe can answer your qeustions and decide on what method needs to be tried next.Take care.TNT406.
Avatar f tn I had only taken one depo provera shot and was due to have my second one between June 30 and July 13, I didn't take the second one. My boyfriend and I had unprotected sex July 2nd-5th every day. Is it possible that I'm pregnant? I have had slight bleeding almost every day since but it recently stopped, it was just like spotting, not a flow, only a tinge of color when wiping. I am having many symptoms of pregnancy (nausea, extreme fatigue, headaches, bleeding gums, etc).
Avatar n tn When I finally looked online to find out what was wrong with me (no period for 6 months, difficulty sleeping, incredible hot flashes and night sweats, excessive weight gain, a lot of crying, etc.) menopause kept coming up as one of the possible causes. After extensive testing at my doctor’s office I was told I was menopausal.
Avatar n tn I was on depo for 1 year. (I'm 25 now, 23 at the depo time) I gained 50 pounds, had terrible mood swings, depression, bone loss, fatigue and some minor other problems. I suffer from knee/joint pain now because depo causes you to loose calcium in your bones. If you choose to go with it, make sure you start a calcuim supplament right away. I honestly would suggest researching into any drug before you commit to it. Some people I know have had really good luck with it.
Avatar n tn I went in for my Depo-Provera shot, and a few minutes after I got home the doctor called and said "Sorry, we gave you Depo-Lupron instead of the shot you were supposed to get." I am freaking out! What are the possible side effects of this, am I still safe to have unprotected sex with my husband, will this have any permenant effects on my overies or on my body at all? Do I need to contact a lawyer? Any info you have will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn You guys have been a lot of help so I hope you can help me! I started Depo Provera back in October of 2006 and have only received one of the 3 month dose. I got the shot when I was on my period. My period used to last 3 days then go away completely. A few days later, I would have a brownish discharge for just a few hours. I was told this is normal since your body is getting rid of some of the old blood and tissue. Well, after Depo, I bled the entire three months.
202436 tn?1326477933 i was on the depo provera for a while and in my own personal oppinion i hated it i gained lots of weight, major mood swings, no sex drive at all i felt so depressed when i was on it i think i had 3 shots then gave it up the only good thing about the depo you dont have af. some people may like and may have a different opinion but i hated it.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar f tn I have been taking the Depo-Provera shot for over a year now. I am a 33 year old. I have 2 children, 10 years old and 7 years old, and have hot flashes during the day, and worse at night, along with cold sweats. The reason the doctor insisted on the depo was because of maternal family history of estrogen-fed breast cancer. My question is whether the depo shot is inducing menopause hot flashes, or do I need to be concerned about other things, such as cancer.
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar f tn I started receiving the Depo-Provera shot 6 weeks after I gave birth to my son in 2000. I was on the shot for 9 months and gained 118 lbs. My eating habits and excersise habits never changed and I continued to put on the weight. My doctor need numerous tests to see if there was an underlining problem he wasn't aware of, but there wasn't. 6 years later I have lost 81 lbs. - it hasn't been easy.
Avatar n tn How long we're u on depo? I was on it for nearly 12 years & it's taken me 2years for my periods to get back to normal.
5108300 tn?1371830920 When i feel nausea i get hot flashes and i just want to lay down and i lay down for hours and hours at a time. I also get irregular heart beats and fast heart beats. I was perfectly fine until i got this 3rd injection. Now, I called where i got the shot from and spoke with a nurse there and she said since this is my 3rd injection my body should be use to it. So now i am very stressed out that this is not the depo shot doing this to me.
Avatar f tn You have to understand that not only do I have Endo, but because of the consistent mis-diagnoses, and other birth controls to temporarily stop the bleeding, the uterus continues to create the lining that is causing me pain, that lining never stops shedding for me, when on Depo provera I bled right through that, yet it was brown blood, old blood. Same thing with the nexplanon, all brown blood. So along with the pain, I also bleed 24/7.
Avatar n tn I knew nothing about the side effects of the depo and now I Know that my mood swings and hot flashes racing heart beat nausa and more recent vomiting may be self caused do to not educating myself on the dangeous side effects of the depo shot.
Avatar f tn Hello, If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. Depo-Provera is a long-acting progestin (hormone) form of birth control. It was seen in studies that after a year of Depo-Provera injections, 57% of women were not menstruating and after 2 years, 68% of women were not menstruating. Symptoms that you are having can be due to hormonal imbalance caused by the shots rather than early menopause.
363110 tn?1340924019 i had no problems on the depo shot, but i was only on it for two years. my doctor recomended me to be on it for two years, off for one, on for two ect.
Avatar n tn After the surgery I was ordered to be put on a 3 month Depot Lupron treatment. For me, the hot flashes were AWEFUL! I had at LEAST 5 a day and at LEAST 3 night sweats every night. My last shot was March 5 and I still have no period, still no baby, and still hot flashes. Not as bad as when I was on treatment, but they are still there. My husband and I never used any protection ever since we've been together, about 10 years. And no babies.
Avatar n tn Other side effects of Depo Provera can include headaches, nervousness, mood changes, bloating, hot flashes, decreased interest in sex, breast tenderness, acne, hair loss, and back ache. After the last shot of Depo Provera, it can take over 6 months for the drug to leave the body. Side effects may linger until the drug is completely gone.
Avatar n tn Paxil does not affect your period. Depo Provera however can stay in your system 12-18 months (maybe longer) after your last shot. Are you trying to conceive? If so you may want to talk to your dr about Paxil Cr...because it is a category C drug. Also you can take Provera to jumpstart your periods. Talk to your OB/GYN about it.
Avatar n tn Second was the Depo-Provera shot, and third was the Lupron Depot shot. She's wanting to lean to the Lupron. I'm so confused. This endo thing sucks, and knowing that I'm going to have to deal with it for the rest of my life sucks more. Plus, while I never was gung-ho to have children, now the option has pretty much been taken away. I didn't even know I had endo..... The endometrial cyst rupturing and spilling endo everywhere is what made me go to a gyn in the first place.
Monkey Depo Provera injections could cause sweating and/or hot flashes. Hot flashes are actually not uncommon at all, occurring 1-5% of time according to information from the manufacturer, -Dr.
Avatar f tn I am 30 years old and have been fighting Endo pretty much since I started my period at 14. I starte dmy period with such cramps & pains that would cause me to miss school every month when I had my period. I had the Leep procedure done in 2000 and after had daily bleeding for about 6 months, then it slowed down to daily spotting at the least and then eventually after a few months flared back up again.
Avatar n tn I'm seventeen and I'm not sexually active, nor am I on any pills or other drugs. I don't have hot flashes, cramps, but lately my nipples have been aching for some unknown reason. This hasn't happened before and I plan on telling my mom about seeing a doctor about it, but at the same time, I'm really scared and worried that it might something serious. Would anyone have an idea as to what's wrong with me?
Avatar f tn Irregular menstrual periods, or no periods at all Headaches Nervousness Depression Dizziness Acne Changes in appetite Weight gain Excessive growth of facial and body hair Hair loss Loss of bone mineral density Most of the side effects are not common. Change in the menstrual cycle is the most common side effect. You may experience irregular bleeding or spotting. After a year of use, about 50% of women will stop getting their periods. Their periods usually return when they discontinue the shots.
Avatar n tn My pain literally went away. For me, that in itself was worth any risks. I was tired of going to Emerg for a morphine shot for the pain. I am eagerly awaiting surgery so i can try to conceive or go through IVF. All the best to you!
