Depo provera early menopause

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera early menopause

depo-provera

Avatar n tn One thing I noticed during my internet search was a number of results discussing Depo Provera and how it has caused the onset of early menopause in women even in their 20’s. Has anyone else heard about this, and if so, are there other resources I can review to get more information on this correlation? Thanks, I just have to know what is causing this!
Avatar n tn On Dec. 5th,2003 i received my first shot of depo-provera. In the month of Jan. I spoted for almost 3 weeks straight, and for two days in the month of Feb.On March 6th,2004 i missed my second shot.On the 15, i felt my baby move for the first time ,and i am just starting to have pregnancy symptoms like sleepiness, frequent urination.I also startd my period again after missing my shot. I still continue to feel my baby on a regular basis.
339212 tn?1196368535 I have never had a regular period, and have gone as long as a year without a period (on the Depo shot). I'm currently back on the Depo Provera (3 mo. kind), near the end of my third shot. Shortly after I started taking it again my period started flowing and has only stopped for breaks no longer than 3 days. I don't know if my birth control has anything to do with it at all, but I figured I would make sure I added that in there.
Avatar f tn Can Depo cause me to go thru menopause early? And if so how can I reverse or prolong this from happening.
Avatar f tn He told me that he was going to try the Depo Provera shot, because that would be a more effective pain reducer and would help the endo from not coming back. I took the shot in the middle of December 2013, and started bleeding the beginning of January. I was not due to take the next shot until March, but I was still bleeding in February consistently. I called the doctor again and said that I was still bleeding, and they told me that I could either come and take the 2nd shot early or wait it out.
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn Then I started having hot flashes, night sweats, come to find out at 23yrs old I was expericing early menopause due to the depo. The doctors wanted to put me on the estrogen pill to help but I decided to get off the depo and never get it again.
Avatar n tn Well, had the first Depo-Provera shot today. Hopefully my body adjusts alright and this helps with keeping the endo at bay. Has anyone used the Depo for endometriosis? What kind of experiences did you have? I'm kinda curious, but also thinking that maybe I jumped into the waters before seeing if there were sharks. :) (To reiterate, I was given three choices: oral BC, Depo, or Lupron. Opted against the Lupron for the vast scary side effects.
Avatar n tn To my surprise, I may have had the procedure for nothing because the one-time Depo shot may have thrown me into early menopause. My doctor has given me a script for Provera. I will have it filled tomorrow. He also gave me a script for lab work. I'll keep you posted. Thank God I'm 38 with two beautiful kids. Otherwise, I think that I would have been an emotional wreck. I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar n tn I joked w/friends that it was early menopause. I'm only 36 so am beginning to think that it may have been the depo. I was also 125 before the depo and am now 155. I'm concerned in reading everyone else's posts about the bleeding..and am hoping that the pill will help regulate that. Does anyone have any feedback on this matter?
Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar n tn I am worried because my husband and I want to give our daughter some brothers and sisters and I have heard of women getting thrown into early menopause because of this condition. Could it be possible I am premenopausal at only 25? Or could I possibly have endometrial cancer? My anxiety levels are through the roof with this. My hubby and I have an appointment to go see a fertility doctor on the 7th, but that seems so long away. Please help!
Avatar n tn I have been on the Depo-provera for 10 years. I'm 27 now and have been married for 2 years. My next one is due on the 14th Feb 2012 the only time i have bleed was when I had cell's removed after another bad 'smear' test. I really want a baby my husband has 5 kids but we dont see them much (not out of choice!) Iam really scared now that I'm not going to be able to have a baby and wont beable to be the wife I want to be....
Avatar f tn I had two chocolate cysts that were around 6 cm x 6 cm x 6 cm, the size of a tennis ball. My gynecologist wants me to take depo provera until I am in menopause. I am only 41. I refuse to take it afraid of all the side effects. I agree we are almost made to feel like we HAVE to take it. My surgeon was very forceful about me having to take it. She does not know I never filled the prescription. Not even willing to take Alesse the birth control pill. I am just waiting and seeing.
Avatar n tn Im worried that i have gone through a severely early menopause... so worried as i have not had my period since December last year and it is now October...
Avatar f tn I was on the DEPO-PROVERA shot for about 10 years, I have been off of the shot for 2 years now and have, at least I thought, were regular periods, except for being 5 days early. My question is; could this be early menopause? I plan to have my first child within the next couple of years. I would also like to know if alchohol could play a part in an early period if it is consumed everyday.
Avatar n tn Yes there is pain. I believe Depo started this. There is no history in my family of early menopause/ pre-menopause or Osteoporosis. I am now going through several test w/my OB GYN. I don't want to take any meds or do any treatment that would increase bone loss? Anyone experiencing this problem?
Avatar n tn but im 23 yrs old and about 6/7 months ago i had an abortion, and got the depo provera shot. I only ever had the one shot and read to much bad stuff about it...For about a month now i have been getting my period every 2 weeks along with a bit of dark discharge, back aches and horrible hot flashes, which have cause me to leave work as felt like i was on fire.
Avatar f tn I am 38 yrs old and was just diagnosed as having stage of early menopause I am seeing the fertilitist had blood and sonograms, my insurance plan will not cover donnor eggs which I understand but they wont cover the ivf surgery because they dont consider my diagnosis infertility I think this is absurd how can they say that ? has anyone been threw this I am so sad and upset.
1000392 tn?1294097512 Who in their right mind would think it's normal to put a 23 year old in menopause?! So now I have to go through menopause not once but twice? Why is it that a doctor can give you 2 options to "cure" the endo... have a baby or get a hysterectomy?! Especially when you've been told that you will not have children. Endo is a slow emotional killer. It takes over your life and ppl think you're crazy. Doctors are not educated on Endo in Canada therefore, they cannot treat it.
Avatar n tn I am still having the same symptoms to this day. I'm in pain 24-7. I was put on depo provera but it made it worse. Have you started a pain chart along with your times of cycles? I have been doing it since October. My struggle was I couldn't find anyone that would take me serious enough so that's why its taking me so long to get any results. If you continue to have your cycles every 2 weeks its only going to get worse.
1344197 tn?1392822771 Serves as the primary ‘”reservoir” of estrogen, and dominant estrogen remaining AFTER menopause. It is produced primarily in the ovaries, body fat, and breast. E2, Estradiol; Serves as the primarily active estrogen BEFORE menopause and is LOST at menopause when follicles are gone. It is produced primarily in the ovaries with some made from testosterone in the brain, breast, and muscle. E3, Estriol; A weak estrogen made by the placenta during pregnancy.
Avatar n tn My periods from May Until now have been 1 week early to 1 week late. My Period for December was extremely heavy and I was bleeding from the beginning of December until January 9th off and on. I have Really bad cramping, I've been sick to my stomach and have even thrown up a few times. The pain gets worse as well as the bleeding during and after sex. The cramping also gets worse when I have a full bladder or have to have a BM.
Avatar f tn massive weight gain and still had my period but did help with endo. 3. Provera pills: Was prescribed 2- 10mg tablets per day: stopped my period for bigger amounts of time but was SO moody (my husband went back to smoking behind my back lol). I took myself off of it after a month!!! 4. Mirena IUC: This was my most recent and it made me have super irregular periods, but there were a few times without periods for a few months so that helped. It really cut down on te super heavy periods too.
232077 tn?1218426943 I've never done Depo Provera but I have a friend who's using it with great success. She's a couple of years older than me and it's kept her from having to have a complete hysterectomy. Her endo isn't as bad as mine though. The last endometrioma I had removed was the size of a soft-ball and it was inside my ovary.
Avatar n tn I am going with the Depo-Provera shot because it's safer, and since if the shot doesn't have any effect, I have something else medically to try before having to do a hyster. I know alot about Lupron now, so if you have any questions, just ask!
377493 tn?1356505749 My entire adult life I have had a 28 day cycle...only ever altered during the few years I used Depo Provera as a method of birht control, and for the few months I was first off of it. Even after each D&C, with the exception of the first cycle, I was right back to normal. I have been using an ovulation kit for about 11 months or so, and would almost always get my LH surge on day 11 or 12, and if BFN, period on day 28. Last month I got a BFP on about CD 23 and by day 25 was in full flow.
409451 tn?1206900232 She also suggested trying depo-lupron I think she said...what will that do for me? What can be done to diagnose/treat adenomyosis? Any info is very much appreciated!!! Thanx!!!!!
1296429 tn?1272923280 I was recently diagnosed with Endo after almost 11 years of suffering. I cant take BCP's, I've been on depo provera and it didnt work, Im on progesterone tablets they arn't working and I've had laser surgery and my pain is by far the worst it's ever been SINCE the surgery. I moved my appointment forward with my professor to May 12th instead of June 8th because I can't take this pain anymore =( My painkillers wont help or even knock the edge off the pain!
