depo-provera

Avatar f tn I read about a calcium deficiency when doing research about Depo Provera. I do not want to go to my doctor about this unless I am more than positive that I am correct in saying that my symptoms may be caused by Depo.
Avatar n tn i was on the minipill for two years i am not getting my period now doctor wants to put me on depo provera she claims after awhile the affectiveness of the minpill wears off and depo would be best for me being that it is also a progesteron only contraceptive and will continue not getting my period am afraid because of all the bad things i hear about it any suggetions?
Avatar n tn HOW CAN I SUE DEPO PROVERA WHICH I WAS ON FOR 8 YEARS AND BY AGE 25 I WAS DIAGNOSED WITH THE OSTEOPOROSIS AND I AM 29 NOW AND CONTINUE TO BREAK BONES IN JUST SIMPLE ACTIVITIES. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND CANT FIND ANY ONE TO TAKE THE CASE?
Avatar n tn I am 47 b=n on depo for 20 years Do not want a baby but depo is messing with my calcium.
16411434 tn?1447721585 A LITTLE OVER 3 YEARS AGO I GOT THE DEPO PROVERA SHOT. I ONLY GOT IT ONCE BECAUSE IN THE 3 MONTHS AFTER I GOT IT I GAINED OVER 70 LBS. I IMMEDIATELY NOTICED THE WEIGHT GAIN AND STARTED BEING EVEN MORE ACTIVE AND EATING BETTER. BEFORE THE DEPO SHOT I WALKED 6 MILES A DAY AND DID CALISTHENICS EVERY MORNING AND NIGHT. I GAINED EVEN MORE WEIGHT AFTER THAT 3 MONTH PERIOD AND NOW AT 250 LBS., OVER 100 LBS.
Avatar n tn Then I was diagnosed with osteopenia, hypothyroidism, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, and NOW depo-induced menopause. Are they all related to depo-provera use? I was taking it for 5 years. In what order do I treat this set of disorders? Why is my jaw the primary target? Will the bone loss stop, reverse? My endocrinologist said I should be taking hormone-replacement therapy, but that's what started me on this road to begin with! Help! I really don't want to have menopause twice. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn I had had baby in Sept 04 and then went on Depo Provera a month later. A year later I started getting manic depressant and just didnt feel right. This was the second time that this happened to me on Depo Provera so I immediately went off. I let my system clean out for a month and then went onto Lo Ovoral pills and into the 8th day of the second pack I started to get these horrible migraines. I have never been sickly or have had headhaches in my life.
Avatar n tn I was searching google when I found this website. I am referring to "KNeal" who posted on 7/21/07 "passing (3*2) sheets of tissue during menstruation, not clots". Also two other women posted with similar stories, "ericahts" on 7/31 and "colady123" on 9/18 First of all, in the hopes I will get some kind of expert opinion, or other feedback here, let me explain what happened. I am 22 today. In 2003, I was 17 going on 18.
Avatar n tn I was on depo for 1 year. (I'm 25 now, 23 at the depo time) I gained 50 pounds, had terrible mood swings, depression, bone loss, fatigue and some minor other problems. I suffer from knee/joint pain now because depo causes you to loose calcium in your bones. If you choose to go with it, make sure you start a calcuim supplament right away. I honestly would suggest researching into any drug before you commit to it. Some people I know have had really good luck with it.
432411 tn?1206475709 I was on Depo Provera for BC for 8 years with no side effects but headaches, which were manageable. Also had no periods, which was great! However, I became ill when I stopped having the injections at age 45. I experienced fatigue, joint pain and swelling, and depression. I was tested for everything from Lyme disease and Lupus, to thyroid conditons - all negative. My Dr. finally gave up and diagnosed me with Chronic Fatigue syndrome.
202436 tn?1326477933 I wasn't planning on using any birth control after I had Lily, we were just gonna go with natural family planning. Well at my doc appt today he suggested the depo provera shot may help with milk production since I'm having an issue with it due to anemia. I went ahead and got the shot becuase I figured it was worth trying to see if it WILL help AND with the anemia problems right now it's probably best that I elminate as much risk of pregnancy as possible for awhile.
Avatar n tn You guys have been a lot of help so I hope you can help me! I started Depo Provera back in October of 2006 and have only received one of the 3 month dose. I got the shot when I was on my period. My period used to last 3 days then go away completely. A few days later, I would have a brownish discharge for just a few hours. I was told this is normal since your body is getting rid of some of the old blood and tissue. Well, after Depo, I bled the entire three months.
Avatar n tn After being on depo provera for 1 year, I decided to discontinue use and switch to the pill. I decided to be single (and not sexually active) for a while, so I decided to wait until I got my period to start taking the pill. The only problem is that I STILL haven't had a period! It's been 6 or 7 months since I stopped getting the shots. I had normal periods while on the shot, and before I was on the shot, but once I stopped getting it my periods vanished...
Avatar n tn I am a 21 year old female currently using Depo Provera as a means of birth-control. I am now in my second year of using it, and have noticed some side-effects that haven't gone away within the first year. Though I no longer have periods, at the end of the month I am much more easily aroused. Unfortunately, if I ever act on these heightened moments, whether through masturbation or a sexual partner, I excrete a bloody discharge shortly afterwards.

Avatar f tn I've just turned 18 and I've been using the depo shot for at least 7 months because the pill was making me sick. When I asked my Nurse about depo she just told me about the positives which left me very much in the dark about this contraception.Since starting my shots I have gained 14LBS in just SEVEN months!!I have gone back to the nurse since and explained that my diet and exercise hasn't changed but I'm gaining weight, she wasn't exactly sympathic and insisted I eat less!
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar n tn I have been on depo for 11 years. I would be due for my next shot on 9/27 but my Doctor has advised that I stop having it. She has been treating me for migraines and depression with Imitrex (when needed) and a daily dosage of Prozac of 10mg. The Imitrex thankfully, works, and the migraines have also been lessened by the Prozac.
Avatar n tn He came back saying that this doctor had been studying it, and found no proof that there is a correlation to calcium loss and depo provera use. I got back on depo in January. I've now had my period pretty bad for about 10 days. Two months ago, I had it for 29 days. This isn't normal for me either. I've never had this. I'm getting annoyed. Ruined underthings because I have no clue when it will happen. I wish there was something out there that you could take.
1394877 tn?1280268960 Welcome to the side effects of Depo Provera! :) It takes A LOT of time to get used to the drug and yes, all that you're experiencing with the mood swings, lower abdominal pains, etc. are just normal side effects. Damaging to someone is a possibility. Did the doctor explain to you the side effects and what happens to your bones the longer you're on the stuff? I was on it for 3 years and had... somewhat problems at the end. Sometimes the side effects are easily to control while other times...
Avatar n tn Hi! I had my first baby in January of 2006 and I got the depo provera shot 2 days after she was born. It lasted for 3 months, and then I had to get another one... But I decided not to because after I had the baby I gained 50 pounds in 3 months because of the shot. So I went on the pills... 3 months after I stopped the Depo, I was pregnant again! So in my case it didn't take long to conceive after getting the stupid thing. I hope everything works out for you, and you get what your wishing for!!!!
Avatar n tn I would suggest that you start doing ovulation predictors once you have a normal period and if you are not ovulating regularly, you could start a medication like Clomid to overcome the after effects of the depo. Also, you should take lots of vit D and calcium--depo can cause thining of the bone, but that is reversible when you stop it. Good luck!
Avatar n tn But everyone is different and reacts differently to depo. Some people even get pregnant while on depo or once they stop it. Usually it stays in your system from 12-18 months. I stopped depo in Nov 04 and started BCP's to regualte my periods. Then in Aug 05 I stopped BCP's to TTC. Because the depo was still in my system and I just got of BCP's I didnt have a period without the help of provera until Dec 05. I now am almost 21 weeks pregnant.
Avatar n tn The only thing I wish I had been told from the start was that the depo depletes calcium levels. I have a lot of joint/bone issues now, but I started taking calcium supplements as soon as I was enlightened of the inevitable depletion. I only stayed on the shot for a year though. The reason being that I have heard that if a woman stays on BC for too long it will make conception very difficult or even impossible. I still want to have children someday.
Avatar n tn I used depo provera injections for two and a half years. It's been over a year since my last injection. within the first six months after stopping the shot I gained 40lbs without a change in my diet and excercise.I was told this was unusual to gain after stopping the shot and that i may never lose the weight. Is this true? or is the only way to go back on the shot because while i was on the shot i actually lost weight.but if that's the answer won't i be trapped on the shot forever?
Avatar n tn I had my father change my bed mattress 3 times thinkin it was the mattress until I looked up on the internet and found out that the depo actually takes calcium out of your bones so I believe that's why my back is always hurting and my knees are starting to hurt as well does anyone have any answers to my story. Please help I am desperate! I want to get pg and have beautiful healthy baby.
Avatar n tn maybe you should get checked out anyway, if your in a lot of pain don't take the chance. Depo Side Effects One of the major side effects of depo provera is the irreversible loss of bone density with prolonged use. This may also lead to the higher risk of osteoporosis in women. Therefore, it is always recommended that you should not use this contraceptive for more than two years. Women are also advised to exercise and take in a lot of calcium while using this method.
Avatar f tn Hi there =) By Provera I assume you mean Depo provera? Shot form? If so - I had this for 3 years age 15-18. It worked well for 1 year and the other 2 were iffy (but thats another story on my stupid OBGYN at the time!). Why arn't I on this now? Besides it no longer helping me, I began to bleed through it even when the dosages were put up and done shorter between shots, I also developed osteoporosis in my hips. So if it works great!
363110 tn?1340924019 Hey ladies, I thought I'd put this warning out there since many women DO NOT KNOW about a certain risk with Depo. Depo Provera has been given a Black Box warning label from the FDA because it can cause bone density lost. The makers reccomend that after 3 years of being on depo you begin getting your Bone Density checked 1x a year. Because bone density loss can lead to osteoporosis or brittle bones. Some doctors reccomend Depo for no longer than 3 years because of this risk.
