Depo provera and liver disease

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and liver disease

depo-provera

432411 tn?1206475709 I took depo provera for about 6 years, starting in 2000. Just over three months after I stopped taking the shots I developed a nodule in my neck which was eventually diagnosed as thyroid cancer. I have absolutely no history of thyroid problems of any kind in family and I had had no problems before the depo.
Avatar m tn Keep in mind that because you've been diagnosed as stage 4, you should be followed regularly by a specialist familiar with liver disease and Hep C. I do not know if your liver disease is well-compensated (without other symptoms), but regular surveillance in either case is a good rule of thumb.
Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again. Fitday.com's free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar n tn She told me to never eat anything white (except chicken). Well her advice worked. It's something about the Depo Provera and and inability to metabolize carbs while Depo is still hiding in your tissues. She told me to eat this way until I lost the weight I want, and that then I could eat bread, salad, and the foods I love again. She also said the weight will not come back, as the depo will be gone. So I look forward to that in another month or so. I have already lost 45 lbs!
Avatar f tn I am also on depo provera, and am going to stop taking that. I dont have anything to tell you that is helpful except i share your confusion and concern and I wish you luck. Since my diagnosis is basically a GUESS ( I was negative on all screens too), I am hoping i dont really have that disease , but that the progestone in the depo shot is what is causing this. Good luck...
Avatar n tn Hello, If you stop getting Depo-Provera injections, your period usually returns within 3 to 10 months but sometimes it may take 12-18 mths. In your case, this soreness can be due to hormonal changes due to depo shots.
1229564 tn?1267457913 My doctor figured it was textbook case gall bladder disease, so he did an ultrasound of my gall bladder, liver, stomach and kidneys, but everything was fine. I took a series of blood tests and ct scans and everything is working fine. I wanted to know if maybe my symptoms are side effects of using the depo provera shot. I've been on the depo shot since August 19th, 2009 and my symptoms started shortly after in very late August.
1704625 tn?1310712361 I tried depo provera, yaz, ortho evra, ortho tri cyclen(my body is ok w/this one), and I finally have settled with ortho cyclen. As for the pain under my ribs it was in the middle and onto the right side.
Avatar n tn (that’s the reason you are being given medication for acidity) Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea. Since I cannot examine you and know other related conditions you may be having, nor is a detailed history possible on net, I have listed the various possibilities that should be looked into.
Avatar n tn After having an ultrasound done I was told I have an ovarian cyst the size of my ovary. She told me why women get cysts but until December I've been on Depo Provera and only quit taking it because of a lowering of bone density. Problem 2: During this visit I had lab work done and found out my AST (124) and ALT (166) levels were high. I don't have a history of drinking, in fact my last alcoholic drink was July of last year during a going away party.
Avatar n tn 3 c sections along with a tubal on my last c section. and 1 DNC. I have a history of bladder, kidney and UTI infections. I also have a Rare disease called Osteogenesis Imperfecta, which is a brital bone disease but also effects other things. This morning I woke up with very bad cramping and when I went to the bathroom, I had A LOT of black/or very dark brown discharge, it was almost period flow ( thats how heavy it was ) and my stomach is still cramping bad and the discharge is still there.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed with a fatty liver after taking depo provera - which is a third world injectable progestin (synthetic progesterone) - it causes full blown osteo in 19year olds. Very dangerous - all kinds of court cases - Pfizer. So, a Naturopath v.s multiple surgeries now seem to be the path I am going down. Your exhaustion may well be core toxicity, neurotransmitters which are out of balance and low projesterone and a weak thyroid.
497047 tn?1210002233 Very complicated and many pcp as well as endo's go by labs only, not by how patients, the majority women, feel. It's epidemic and I can't help but feel if it were a mans disease and more endo's themselves suffered like we do, we might have more definitive answers. Prayers for your peace of mind and healing.
Avatar n tn thinks either adenomyosis or endo, but she told me if yaz doesnt help the next step might be the depo provera shot I dont know much about it but that may be a possibility for you, or possibly even lupron depo she suggested, even though I think you get many side effects from it. It's like a fake menopause! Well good luck lemme know how things works out!
Avatar n tn I live an amazingly high stress life (not enough room on the internet to go into that one) and have learned that when your body is enduring constant high stress, it causes your liver (? pretty sure it was liver) to produce an excess of enzymes and insullin to give your muscles the "strength" to cope with the physical side effects of stress. A natural defense mechanism but a real wammy for someone with PCOS and insullin resistance. I'm hoping it helps that issue too.
503727 tn?1210442710 As soon as I get into a place I get so dizzy and my vision is all messed up. I get so hot and sweaty and my heart races. I want my life back. I still dont believe that its just anxiety causing all of this. I feel like I have something else wrong that the doctors cant find even though i have had bloodwork, mri, ekg, and they were all normal. I started taking .25mg of xanax once a day. still dont feel any better yet. So if anybody has any help please give it to me.
Avatar n tn For the last 6 months I have been getting tearing (look like paper cuts) in my vaginal area (1/4 to 1/2 inch long). I get the tears at least once or twice a week and they last from 2-4 days, go away for a few days and then come back. They continue to occur in the same locations; 1. Inside the vaginal lips on the sides almost always in the crease (between the labia minora and majora?) 2. Between the anus and vaginal opening (perineum) 3. Above the clitoris in the "hood" area.
298579 tn?1192250448 The only thing I have seen that helps the pain is an herbal wrap that you heat up(you can get them @ walmart), and I lay that on my stomach. I have been on the depo shot for four years, I have asked if this is a contributing factor and have been told no. I have no kids. I hope someone comes up with an explanation, because I am too young to be giving up on my sex life!
Avatar n tn Other causes of pain in the upper left side would be pancreatitis, liver or gallbladder disease (can atypically present with left-sided pain), or problems with the spleen. I would consider a CT scan for further evaluation of the pancreas. If there is concern about the small bowel, more specialized tests like capsule endoscopy can be considered. Other tests to consider would be a gastric emptying scan looking for gastroparesis.
Avatar f tn It will take a little time to get your levels stableized, and it depends most on the Endo uou will see. Did you get a copy of the tests they did at the ER? If you did please Post them. If you are new to thyroid, there are a few things you need to know about the disease prior to seeing a new MD. The most problem we have is finding an MD that relly knows how to test and treat the disease, Yes, Many MD's do not treat well, they follow one path "TSH" and that is all they go by.
Avatar f tn I just last month, after 3 years of misery and laporscopic surgeries, and a colonoscopy got the right doctor. I am on the depo provera shot and that has made a world of difference. At my time of menstration, I would have debilitating cramping and severe diarrhea. I often would have loss of bowel control with no warning. I went to a specialist at a women's hopsital in P'burgh and thank GOD I did. I will end up with a complete hystorectomy at some point but not yet.
Avatar n tn What is the significance of taking Depo Provera? Very curious since I did durung an early pregnancy for the the whole time.
Avatar n tn cases only with endometriosis--164 patients; endometriosis and polycystic disease of the ovaries--11 patients; endometriosis and tubal sterility--42 patients; endometriosis and pelvic inflammatory disease (PID)--56 patients; endometriosis and uterus myomatosus--6 patients. DISCUSSION: Diagnosis of endometriosis by laparoscopy effectively helps in the further treatment of sterile women.
Avatar f tn An irrational fear can turn a normal ache, that other people wouldn't even give a second thought to, into some huge disease. Try and be positive and just know that your mind can play a lot of tricks on you.
Avatar n tn I think it also made me nauseated. I agree with Inny that practicing abstinence and getting off the depo-provera would be an excellent step.
Avatar n tn She said she took SEVERAL HPT and 2 blood ALL NEGATIVE. Finally when her Doc gave her a RX for provera to start her period she was tested one more time 12/9 almost a month later she FINALLY GOT a positive blood test. Her Docs theory is she just ovulated VERY late in her cycle that month!!! How crazy is that!!? It took almost a WHOLE month for her to show positive for pregnant. I mean you are alittle further than a month though. Have you got an ultrasound?
Avatar f tn Was also diagnosed with HepC in 11/07, and the blood results were that it was so low it was undectable. Also had a liver biopsy in May 08, but did not get results back yet.Add high blood pressure and high cholesterol to that. Now, since I had to have medical clearance for the hysperoscopy, the Dr took and EKG in her clinical office, and said I needed to have a stress test done. I REFUSED. She said she "thinks", from reading the EKG that something is wrong with my heart.
Avatar n tn I'm 40 (today!), and still on birth control. I've been on birht control for 20 years, and neither my endo or oncologist has mentioned any link. My bloodwork actually shows me entering menopause, so I'll probably go off b/c soon. As for the heredity part, I'm the first in the family to have any thyroid issues. After I was diagnosed with ThyCa, my mother, several aunts and cousins were tested, and all came back quite normal. I'm not sure what to make of any of this!!
Avatar n tn I have had three EKGs, an echo stress test, several d dimers (one being positive), three chest x-rays, and 24 hr halter monitor. I discontinued my depo provera shot hoping this was just negative side effects from the birth control two months ago. May I mention I've had constant bleeding/spotting for four months. Needless to say the symptoms continue and I am just concerned that they never searched anywhere else in my body for clots or research as to what caused my elevated d dimer. HELP PLEASE.
312323 tn?1193300534 Well my doctor said that it would pass or shrink on its own well after three months went bye no change, so my doctor decided to give me a laparoscopy to remove the cyst, after my surgery my doctor said everything went well and I should recover fine from this surgery, well surprise surprise after one month later I was still in alot of pain at that time I went back in to see him, and what I heard was like a diffrent language to me he told me when I had my surgery he found some endometriosis on my
