Depo provera and high blood pressure

Common Questions and Answers about Depo provera and high blood pressure

depo-provera

Avatar n tn The only problem is that when i take a pregnancy test they all come up negative. I was wondering could the low levels of HCG be a side effect of DEPO-PROVERA, and that's why the test keep coming up negative? Also, could this mean that my baby isn't growing at the rate it should be ? What problems can this cause? What types of birth effects can occur? Or could this mean that there is something wrong with me?
290291 tn?1258156913 My gyne offered me the depo shot in march of 2007 because i was 23, on loestrin24, effexor, and metroprolol(blood pressure med), and i still had high blood pressure, in fear of me having a stroke at 23 my gyne mentioned the oh glorious depo provera(yea right), i got my shot in march and one in may, my hubbys in the military and we had to move to texas but before we left i had a gyne visit and my pap came up abnormal again which it was fine for a yr, until i started depo?
Avatar n tn I was given a shot of depo-provera yesterday...and when I asked about side affects all I was told was nausea, headache, and dizziness. After reading quite a few articles online, it seems there are a lot more serious side affects than I was led to believe. I've been having lots of chest pain and shortness of breath, but the doctor doesn't seem to think it's related to the shot.
Avatar n tn I never had any problems with high blood pressure even through 2 pregnancies now all of a sudden in december my blood pressure has increase, sometimes 150/120.. could this be caused by the shot..I know increase bp is one of the side effects but my doctor keeps saying no.
Avatar n tn You girls have to discontinue Depo Provera at once and I highly recommend never putting any hormones into your bodies ever again. I have experienced a living nightmare from Depo Prover for the past three years. After I got the Depo shot I went home and researched on the web about the drug. I cried for three hours in fear that that could happen to me. What happened was worse. Five days after the shot a menstrual cycle started that would not cease. It wasn't a normal cycle.
Avatar n tn you can always call your pharmacist and ask to make sure. My husband and I are TTC and I took the Depo shot twice and stopped 11/04 and then started BCP till 8/05 and havent had a period since except with provera. I think the Depo is still in my system and is screwing everything up. I hope the provera works for you and best of luck with the clomid.
Avatar n tn A list of my issues include weight gain of 100 lbs, no sex drive, fatigue, high blood pressure, personality changed to being angry all the time and wanting to kill anyone that breathes, acne, over the last recent couple years difficulty concentrating, memory loss, and knowing the vocabulary I want to use but not thinking of the words. And that's just what I can think of at this moment. My last shot was due on Tuesday which was the same day I had my annual OB/GYN visit.
Avatar f tn You had started with Depo provera shots in late June and have got prolonged bleeding since July. I assure you that there is no need to panic. Heavy and prolonged bleeding are common side effects of starting Depo shots and usually it takes 3 months for such menstrual irregularities to settle down.Depo shots are to be given every three months, so for the first shot this kind of menstrual irregularity can occur.
Avatar f tn I will never go on Depo Provera again. My daughter was on Depo Provera at college, and discontinued the shot and has lost that weight and is thin again. Fitday.com's free site has helped me keep up with my carb intake, and also tells me how many calories, how much fat etc. I use. It does this automatically when I put my food in for the day. Also Magic Bus has a forum where you can learn how to lose weight quick and even post on a challenge to keep you honest and responsible.
Avatar f tn I wonder what the difference between the two depo shots are and I wonder why my gyno recommended the other depo shot if the depo-subq provera 104 shot is specific for endo ?
Avatar n tn I have always heard horror stories about the depo shot...I really didnt want to take it but the dr. said that since i have high blood pressure I dont need to take the pill as it has to much estrogen in it and could hurt me. So I took the shot, and I am afriad im going to bleed for the next two months, as know a few people who have done the same on the pill. What do you guys think? Should I be worried? Or is this just normal?
Avatar n tn i went to my fam. dr. and got the depo shot they said hopefully it would cause it to slack off. since getting the shot i've been having more cramps in my back and lower abdomen, the bleeding seems to be a little less at times but not alot. i got the shot tues. also, during this time my blood pressure was really high 160/108 one night & 160/89 the next night i took diovan hct both nights, but it seems like my bp would have been low due to the blood loss, shouldn't it?
Avatar n tn I had a similar problem a few months ago, the exception with mine is my period didnt stop, I actually kept my period for two weeks passing the HUGE!!!!
Avatar n tn I've been reading what every1 has been writing and its helping me. I've been trying to find out whats going on with me. It started wen I noticed some spottin a week before my period was due, (mine are always on schedule & very heavy) that lasted a few days & stopped. I feel like im pregnant & so i took 4 home pregnancy tests all came out positive. I went to the dr & 2 urine tests came out negative.
Avatar n tn This just happened again to my thumb after 10 years and my cardiologist prescribed high blood pressure meds...and I DON'T have high blood pressure, I've been running for 25 years! If anyone has a diagnosis please share...I know your frustration.
Avatar f tn Hi! Yes, you can use those medications together. It is also considered to be safe to use oral contraceptives containing estrogen if your blood pressure is well-controlled. If your blood pressure is fairly labile, you may be better off with a progestin only method. The mini-pill is less effective than regular preparations. Depo-provera is effective, but watch out for weight gain that could worsen blood pressure issues, and take calcium supplements in addition. Hope this helps!
Avatar n tn I have had endo for over ten years now and after a few surgeries and depo provera i finally put my foot down along with my husband and said Enough is enough, i couldnt live like that any longer! so i started Lucrin in Jan and i've got my last injection in a few days time. I was terrified of going on it after reading side effects but...the hot flushes, night sweats, headaches and feeling pregnant lol are nothing compared to how much pain i was in before!
Avatar f tn By the way this was a very unexpected pregnancy. I was protected so I thought with the depo-provera shot and my kids are 14 and 18, so this is really an anxiety situation within itself. I've also had high blood pressure since i was 17 yrs. old, but with both of my other pregnancies, i was younger, more fit and not heavy. Now i am 38 years old weighing 230lbs and not as healthy and this is a scary situation. I don't know what is wrong with me. The older i get the more i worry.
Avatar f tn Depending upon what your risk for blood clots is, you might be able to use depo-Provera to suppress the ovaries and the testosterone. A really great medication for excess testosterone is Spironolactone, but you must be on some kind of birth control to take it, as it can cause birth defects. It also sounds like you may need a workup for all those UTIs! After all those antibiotics, its no wonder that you have a yeast infection!
10977101 tn?1414282594 and it didn't help the cramps or the heavy bleeding. went back and was put on the depo provera shot and my mom asked the doctor what could be causing me to have severe cramps and the weight loss. the doctor told my mom that i was aneroxic and bulemic and that i should see a pyschatrist. after that being said i decided to not go back to that obygn after i stopped taking the depo provera shot because that wasn't helping the pain either. at that point in my life i was loosing hope.
Avatar f tn my partner started each of her 2 pregnancies at about 240 and had nary a problem the entire way through, until both refused to come out and had to be induced. she never had high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, or any of that either.
Avatar n tn I developed a blood clot post operatively in my leg and was also on bc pills which I had to stop. Another gyn had put me on depo-provera (which I guess was a no-no) and from what I was told that once you've developed a clot your likely to get them again and that's what happened.
Avatar f tn for women who are breastfeeding, over age 35, overweight, smoking, or have high blood pressure or history of blood clots. You may also consider patches, or the Depo Provera shot. There are also methods such as the NuvaRing. I personally take Yasmin and have never had any problems.
Avatar n tn Just make sure you dont smoke, your blood pressure is good, and your weight is reasonable. These can be huge factors when it comes to what side effects you could have. Good luck! I hope this helped!!
Avatar n tn Metformin also reduces lipids (cholesterol) and so has very positive effects to preventing heart disease and reducing blood pressure. Google any of these terms in relation to Metformin and you will see. If you are a person who has tried to lose weight though calorie control and exercise, but have failed, you should try Metformin. Or if you have metabolic syndrome (stomach fat, high blood pressure, diabetes and high cholesterol) you should as well.
Avatar m tn I was just diagnosed with NCS after significant weight loss (no surgery, just diet and over exercising) and my PCP also found a high viral load of EBV, CMV and HHV 6. Started antivirals 6 weeks ago and on fludrocortisone for a week. Have been having daily symptoms after my initial black out 6 months ago. Have any of you found ANY relief>?
Avatar n tn im pretty sure i have a regular period.. and now im atleast a week ever due.. i have taken so many HPT and got a blood test.. all negative.. but my nipples have been very sore, im tired and feel a bit nausous.. i have been preg previously and its startint to feel like i am preg but my tests were neg.. iv already gotten my hopes up and i need help! could i be preg is it possible at all..
Avatar n tn I am Estrogen and Androgen dominant with cystic breasts and overies, high blood pressure, muscle pain, fatigue and horrible memory. Depressed and Angry. Wondering if anyone - especially any of the online doctors - have any opinions on this mix of completely crappy symptoms. Thinking of asking for a complete blood work up again and requesting cortisol and cushings testing. My live blood shows heavy metals and fungus rafts. Your thoughts?
Avatar f tn I understand about hormones and irritability and all that. This is not that. I have anxiety over the actual period (blood, cramps, back ache, being uncomfortable, nausea etc.) I started my period when I was 12, and every month I would dread that time of the month bc I knew my anxiety would go up. I was afraid to go out in public for fear of accidents (just the thought of that makes my heart race and my face turn red) I would be absolutly mortified.
Avatar n tn I was put on elavil years ago for my headaches and that combined with the depo provera birth control and zoloft who knows what has caused it although i have taken all of those drugs in the past with no problems. I had blood work done and there were no problems. My blood pressure was a little high so doc put me on maxzide (diuretic) and ive been taken it one month today and have actually managed to gain 3 lbs! Doc says its all stress related......
