871965 tn?1241833146 Anyone on this site have Von Willebrand's Disease? If so or if you know how Von Willebrand's effects pregnancy or childbirth in any way, please do share. Thanks.
Avatar f tn She has Von Willebrand's, but hasn't been diagnosed with Hashimoto's (although my family has a high incidence). When she had her Chiari diagnosed a decade ago, she had syringomelia. No diagnosis of any of the other conditions or bulging disks. She'll be out of the country till the end of the month...otherwise in great health and not even a thought of the Chiari from so long ago.
Avatar m tn Hi all, This is my first post in this community. Following an approximately 8 month (and counting) history of recurrent petechiae, my doctor finally referred me to a hematologist for further evaluation. The hematologist listened to my concerns and told me that she wanted to test me for von Willebrand disease, but she expected the testing to come back negative as I "should have other symptoms besides petechiae if it's von Willebrand's.
Avatar n tn I got some bloodwork im concerned about what it means. I'm a 22 year old female. Most concerning, my B12 levels were very high (1373 pmol/L) (I don't take supplements). My RBC and hematocrit were also high. Cholesterol was also high (very unusual, I'm almost nearly deficient and I eat healthy). Ferritin was a little low (not abnormal, but supplements recommended). There were leukocytes in my urine (2+? i don't know what that means).

Avatar f tn Have you been checked for a bleeding/clotting disorder? One of the most common ones is von Willebrand's. Has a thyroid abnormality been ruled out? Have you seen a hematologist? An endocrinologist?
Avatar f tn Hi! I just noticed your question -- not sure why it just appeared in the forum, except that the date could be wrong? If you were my patient, the first thing I would do is to check a pregnancy test. If that is positive, then we go down a completely different pathway. If it is negative, then I would want to evaluate some hormone tests and tests for blood clotting disorders such as Von Willebrand's disease.
294666 tn?1253495323 I posted this in a diiferent forum & didn't get any replies. I figured I'd try one more time. I had an episode of ptosis in both eyelids, but mainly the left for 2-3 mos years ago when I was 19. I had gone to a specialist that ran some tests, put me on steroids, & said I should be better within a week. Never was told what it was, but the drooping never occured as severe for me to worry.
Avatar f tn Your symptom of nose bleeds may also indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. The bleeding can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents. This can be detected by blood counts and bleeding and clotting time. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance.

Avatar f tn Hi! I hate to say it, but your mother is probably right. It is possible that the stress from your recent illness caused your ovaries to "forget" to ovulate and that has resulted in this extra heavy period. If this is the one and only time you have a problem, then, no worries. If you start having "Extreme" periods frequently though, it might be a good time to check in with your mother's doctor.
Avatar n tn I came off the contraceptive pill (trying to conceive) beginning of July 2006 and had a normal period in August, but was late in September. I never carried out a pregnancy test as I was unsure as to what my cycle was. At first I saw a watery pinkish coloured blood then I started to bleed properly and continued to bleed for 4 weeks. I went to see the GP, who referred me to a gynaecologist.
Avatar f tn Thanks to both of you for your comments and support ! I will look into the von Willebrand's disease to see if it mirrors her situation. I will also look into the payment plan option with a new vet - so few vets are willing to or able to do that now, but I just moved to a new area, so maybe there is one here that will do that. I also posted the same question in the the Ask A Vet section - I am so glad that I found this site.
Avatar m tn I'm assuming your vet ran PT/PTT blood tests (which test all of the clotting factors and the time it takes to form a clot), but if only a CBC/Chemistry was run, you should definitely have them send out for a PT/PTT and von willebrand's test (which is a factor important in how platelets form clots to the blood vessel endothelium). Rodenticide toxicity is also on the list and your dog should ideally be treated with 30 days of Vitamin K to be on the safe side.
Avatar n tn According to medicine net, some causes of easy bruising are cirrhosis of the liver & liver disease, Marfan syndrome, bone marrow disorders, hemophilia, platelet disorders, medications- prescription and OTC- especially aspirin, NSAIDS (like ibuprofen, etc.) & prednisone, and Von Willebrand's disease. See PM for more things that can cause easy bruising.

Avatar n tn I have a 4 `/2 y/o male with intermitten petechiae on his chest, neck, and shoulder. He has also had 3 nose bleeds and easy to bruise. He was on Trileptal for a month and it was D/Ced because of these symptoms. He has been off of the med. for a week now and more showed up two days ago. His CBC, comp. and Oxcarbazepine level were fine. What could be causing this?
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. The petechiae may indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. It can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents. I suggest you consult your doctor, who may do blood counts, bleeding and clotting time and a prothrombin time, to identify the cause for the petechia.
Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
Avatar m tn DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men). Check with your urologist about the possibility of this treatment. Best of luck.
795248 tn?1250686616 The only rule that the AKC has regarding the registering of litters is that both of the parents of the puppies must be registered dogs of the same breed. The relationship of those dogs to each other has no bearing at all on whether or not the litter is registerable. What you need to keep in mind, however, is that breeding a dog to one of its own offspring is a VERY close inbreeding.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspects I might have Von Willebrand and has referred me to see a hematologist and do some blood work. She said "We should test to see if you have it and if you can then have kids". As you might understand, that was unsettling for me. Is there a chance that VW or any other blood disorder for that matter could cause sterility or infertility?
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
1216899 tn?1288570325 ve already had one surgery for a CSF leak and am going back to California in May for another round of testing to see if it has come back and they can pinpoint it- I dunno if you have this though just throwing it out at you since you are in the process of being diagnosed. Hope you feel better.
