Avatar m tn Hi all, This is my first post in this community. Following an approximately 8 month (and counting) history of recurrent petechiae, my doctor finally referred me to a hematologist for further evaluation. The hematologist listened to my concerns and told me that she wanted to test me for von Willebrand disease, but she expected the testing to come back negative as I "should have other symptoms besides petechiae if it's von Willebrand's.
Avatar f tn She has Von Willebrand's, but hasn't been diagnosed with Hashimoto's (although my family has a high incidence). When she had her Chiari diagnosed a decade ago, she had syringomelia. No diagnosis of any of the other conditions or bulging disks. She'll be out of the country till the end of the month...otherwise in great health and not even a thought of the Chiari from so long ago.
Avatar f tn Hi! I just noticed your question -- not sure why it just appeared in the forum, except that the date could be wrong? If you were my patient, the first thing I would do is to check a pregnancy test. If that is positive, then we go down a completely different pathway. If it is negative, then I would want to evaluate some hormone tests and tests for blood clotting disorders such as Von Willebrand's disease.
Avatar f tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Your symptoms could be due to a sinus infection, a cold or a chronic allergy. Your symptom of nose bleeds may also indicate a bleeding disorder. The causes for bleeding disorders are hemophilia, von willebrand's disease, immune disorders, leukemia, aplastic anemia and scurvy. The bleeding can also be due to liver disorders, certain medications like blood thinners and non steroidal anti inflammatory agents.
Avatar n tn I got some bloodwork im concerned about what it means. I'm a 22 year old female. Most concerning, my B12 levels were very high (1373 pmol/L) (I don't take supplements). My RBC and hematocrit were also high. Cholesterol was also high (very unusual, I'm almost nearly deficient and I eat healthy). Ferritin was a little low (not abnormal, but supplements recommended). There were leukocytes in my urine (2+? i don't know what that means).
294666 tn?1253495323 I posted this in a diiferent forum & didn't get any replies. I figured I'd try one more time. I had an episode of ptosis in both eyelids, but mainly the left for 2-3 mos years ago when I was 19. I had gone to a specialist that ran some tests, put me on steroids, & said I should be better within a week. Never was told what it was, but the drooping never occured as severe for me to worry.

Avatar n tn According to medicine net, some causes of easy bruising are cirrhosis of the liver & liver disease, Marfan syndrome, bone marrow disorders, hemophilia, platelet disorders, medications- prescription and OTC- especially aspirin, NSAIDS (like ibuprofen, etc.) & prednisone, and Von Willebrand's disease. See PM for more things that can cause easy bruising.
Avatar m tn I'm assuming your vet ran PT/PTT blood tests (which test all of the clotting factors and the time it takes to form a clot), but if only a CBC/Chemistry was run, you should definitely have them send out for a PT/PTT and von willebrand's test (which is a factor important in how platelets form clots to the blood vessel endothelium). Rodenticide toxicity is also on the list and your dog should ideally be treated with 30 days of Vitamin K to be on the safe side.

Avatar n tn First everybody can miss a period, not to panic. I would do a pregnancy home test. If it were negative, I would make a Gyn appt. I usual don't let my pts go more than 2 months without having a period if they are not on a treatment to take their periods away. The Von Willebrand's is reason to be followed. I would want to control your bleeding for this reason and BE REGULAR. Usually an increase in a clear discharge is a good sign of ovulation, Could these be your symptoms?
Avatar f tn Always have had extremely bad cramps since first getting period but constant bleeding did not start till about year and half ago. Seen two specialist and they say I am out of options to control it and can not find any significant cause! Any ideas why this is happening or anyone else experienced same thing?

Avatar n tn Might be a bleeding disorder like Von Willebrand's or hemophilia. PT, INR labs would be useful and maybe a hematologist visit might be a good idea.

I suggest you consult your doctor, who may do blood counts, bleeding and clotting time and a prothrombin time, to identify the cause for the petechia.
795248 tn?1250686616 The only rule that the AKC has regarding the registering of litters is that both of the parents of the puppies must be registered dogs of the same breed. The relationship of those dogs to each other has no bearing at all on whether or not the litter is registerable. What you need to keep in mind, however, is that breeding a dog to one of its own offspring is a VERY close inbreeding.
Avatar f tn When I first started using DDAVP ~9 years ago i had to weigh myself every day and measure my input and urine output to get the "hang" of it. The rule was if I gained more than two pounds in day I was to cut back on my fluid intake and dose. Good luck!
Avatar f tn Mine is partial so it ebbs and flows a bit and I do have to adjust my DDAVP dose sometimes. Without DDAVP my fluid consumption is 4 or more gallons a day. At first, I kept a fluid intake and output diary. Also I weighed myself every morning to see if I was taking to much medication and/or not consuming the right amount of fluids. And yes, for me the best approach has ended up to take DDAVP just at night so that I can sleep without having to get up every 1/2 hour to drink and pee.
Avatar m tn You describe a low risk sexual lifestyle with respect to HIV, assuming you are in the US -- which apparently is the case (since State Farm is a US insurance company). Von Willebrand's disease and other blood clotting disorders are not caused by HIV. And all life insurance companies in the US routinely test for HIV.

Avatar f tn never knew. my mother said I had von Wilhems but I was tested when I was an adult and it was negative so i really have no idea. I am scheduled to start the coumadin clinic next week and I guess I need to talk to them. Thanks for the input. I am pretty sure all is well. I think I am just psyching myself out.
