Avatar n tn The condition can also cause sufferers to bruise easily, typically in unusual locations. Symptoms of von Willebrand disease can be very mild, and for this reason, the condition often goes undetected. Bruising can sometimes be a symptom of other illness, such as an irregularity in the liver or the blood clotting mechanism.
Avatar m tn Hi all, This is my first post in this community. Following an approximately 8 month (and counting) history of recurrent petechiae, my doctor finally referred me to a hematologist for further evaluation. The hematologist listened to my concerns and told me that she wanted to test me for von Willebrand disease, but she expected the testing to come back negative as I "should have other symptoms besides petechiae if it's von Willebrand's.
Avatar f tn My doctor suspects I might have Von Willebrand and has referred me to see a hematologist and do some blood work. She said "We should test to see if you have it and if you can then have kids". As you might understand, that was unsettling for me. Is there a chance that VW or any other blood disorder for that matter could cause sterility or infertility?
Avatar n tn von Willebrand disease maybe? Does she have frequent nosebleeds often? Google von Willebrand. It's a disorder that causes the blood to not clot very quickly, so little injuries turn into bigger bruises than you expect. As I understand it, it's treatable my medication.
Avatar n tn s Disease by itself will not cause a decreased libido. However, Antihemophilic factor-von Willebrand factor complex, if has been used in your case to decrease the vaginal bleeding could be the cause of decreased libido. Prolonged vaginal bleed can be traumatic and weakening. This could be a cause of decreased libido. The other possibility is that you have vaginal dryness.
Avatar n tn In april my TSH was up to 20 and my doctor decided to keep the medicin on 75 mcg, due to more testing for a possible Von Willebrand disease. There has been more then six weeks for my TSH to stabilize. During the testing for Von Willebrand (ofcourse with other things measured as well) my TSH went up from 20 to 23 and then to 15, 18 and once collapsed to 1,8. Two weeks later is was 23 again. Since january I was taking 75 mcg (and that's five months ago).
Avatar f tn The platelet count suggests against that - unless the count is normal but the platelet function is not (ie, von-willebrand). The thyroid levels are normal for age. Would work with her pediatrician to get to the underlying cause and she may need additional labs and possibly hematology consult.
Avatar m tn If you are concerned about your von Willebrand disease (-please correct me if I misinterpret what you are writing when you say vwb -- von Willebrand disease is usually listed as vWD, so maybe I have it wrong) - if it is von Willebrand disease you are talking about, it seems like excessive bleeding at the period is more a problem with vWD than not having a period when expected. Unless you have vWD type 3, there is not considered to be an unusual risk of bleeding in the joints, etc.
Avatar f tn Here is an excerpt from an article I found on easy bruising. “ People tend to bruise more easily as they age because blood vessels become weaker and the skin thins. Easy bruising may also run in families, so people whose relatives bruise easily may notice that they do as well. It can be difficult for a person to assess whether they have more bruises than usual or bruise more easily than most other people.
Avatar f tn For owners of breeds that are more prone to having von Willebrand’s disease, there is a specialized test that can determine the exact amount of the von Willebrand protein that is present in the blood. If the test comes back positive for the disease, it won’t necessary help the dog on a daily basis but will come in handy to know if the dog ever requires emergency treatment or undergoes any type of surgery. Von Willebrand’s disease isn’t an automatic death sentence to dogs.
Avatar f tn My husband has been diagnosed with von Willebrand disease. My youngest son has symptoms and labwork that suggest the same. I have never had easy bruising overall, I do have heavy menstrual bleeding but always attributed that to Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome.
Avatar n tn i found it he had /has von willebrand disorder.
Avatar f tn How do you wean off the medicine DDAVP? I've been taking this medicine for many years only to find out my tests say I don't need it (I had small injury to pituitary in brain). Unfortunately I find it almost impossible to wean off because it makes you go to the bathroom ALOT after the medicine ware's off! since it's an anti diuretic/water retaining pill! Confusing and tricky.
871965 tn?1241833146 Anyone on this site have Von Willebrand's Disease? If so or if you know how Von Willebrand's effects pregnancy or childbirth in any way, please do share. Thanks.
Avatar m tn One of the ways we would try to determine this was by prescribing DDAVP (if there were not any issues that would prevent using it). Desmopressin (trade names: DDAVP, Stimate, Minirin) is a synthetic replacement for vasopressin, the hormone that reduces urine production. It may be taken nasally, or as a tablet. Lack of the hormone vasopressin is more common in men than in women. Typically, those that do not produce enough will "correct" by the end of puberty (19-25 years old for men).
398059 tn?1447945633 Find a haemophilia centre in your area and get assessed for clotting factor and activities, particularly factor VIII and Von Willebrand factor. Some versions of haemophilia can be relatively mild or even aquired. Von Willebrand Disease springs to mind. You may have had it lifelong and been unaware, or it may be a new development, rare but possible. Haemophilia covers a range of bleeding disorders and conditions and the centres are very experienced in dealing with this kind of problem.
Avatar n tn My question is I have asked her endocrinologist to prescribe DDAVP for her to take during several camps she has this summer. He will not because of a chance she could have a seizure. I can't remember the exact reason but it does have to do with her diabetes and how DDAVP interact in a diabetic's body. He said the chance is very low, but possible. Could you give me your thoughts on a Type 1 diabetic using DDAVP.
