Avatar m tn 5 months) i have had the worst itching and dandruff i have ever had or seen in my life. i have been through a bottle of head and shoulders (intensive treatment) and a bottle of denorex. i am now using the medicated selsun blue and it only works for part of the day. it is SEVERE! it is uncomfortable and embarrassing. does anyone have any advice or anything that might help this?? the intense shampoo has not seemed to work too well.
Avatar n tn There are many over the counter anti dandruff shampoos. Selsen Blue is one of them. If your hair is naturally too oily, try a shampoo the says "clarifying" . A lot of these type of shampoos help at the root of the hair shaft and help balance out the amount of moisture present. I have a teenage daughter with this exact problem. I ended up buying a clarifying shampoo from a local beauty salon.
Avatar f tn You should ask your doctor. I not really sure, but I think i remember hearing a while back that those shampoos have formaldehyde in them. I don't know if it can effect the baby from a shampoo but it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Avatar n tn I'd like to make a little correction: Nizoral's Blue is a shampoo I recommended for dandruff, and I didn't mean it in the sense of a shampoo that takes away the oils from your scalp. It is a medicated one, and does work for mild to medium dandruff. It needs to be used twice a week and usually does the job pretty well. Also, don't oil your hair and scalp for more than 2 hours, especially if your scalp sweats after being oiled.
Avatar f tn are u serious u cant use dandruff shampoo ?? ive been using head and shoulders .. holly **** i had no idea ..... O.
Avatar n tn It started out of the blue, my scalp became very itchy and I could not help scratching it, when I scratched it, what appeared to be white flakes of skin came off. I thought this was just normal dandruff so bought Anti-dandruff shampoo (over the years I have tried every Anti-dandruff shampoo you can think of, even stuff from my GP).
Avatar f tn I just use a moisturizing shampoo sauve has one in a green bottle Shea Butter and almond maybe... It's working for me.
Avatar f tn You can use selsun dandruff shampoo too, just be careful not to get it in the eyes
Avatar f tn Good day all, my name's Valentine from Nigeria. So I've this concern for a year now. Whenever i scratch or brush my hair white flaky particles fall off and there are white patches on some areas of my head. In the mornings i notice there are sought of moulded particles on head and hair line which i have to choice but to scratch off, the result is a painful sensation all over my head. It's really embarrassing in public and generally.
Avatar n tn s not the nicest smell, and it comes in a bottle unsuitable for scalp application (ie through hair), but I just decant it into a bottle with a long narrow nozzle I got from an art shop. Hope this helps!
9562964 tn?1416928231 Nizeral, polytar and t gell shampoo are all great for dandruff. You could try nioxin shampoo. You get a 3 part system. Nioxin cleanser , scalp revitaliser ( conditioner) and scalp treatment. It is designed for thinning hair but would help your dandruff aswell. It will unblock blocked follicles to aid hair growth and also make the hair you have look thicker and stronger.
Avatar n tn Will switching to a Selsun blue or dandruff shampoo help? What should I do about the pink flaky skin around my hairline? Any help is much appreciated. Its not itchy or irritating but it does not look good and I hate having flaking.
Avatar n tn ) I use a mix of antibiotic ointment and hydrocortisone (1%) over the counter and rub that in. I put my hair up in a messy bun and sleep with that on it. Wash it out in the morning with a creme conditioning shampoo (I use Elasta Qp Creme Conditioning Shampoo because it's cheap and awesome), use Moroccanoil on my hair and my hairline, and the rest has nothing to do with my scalp, haha. :) As long as I keep my fingers out of my hair and off my scalp, I'm good.
Avatar f tn The hospital is not needed for cradle cap, use a little baby oil and a soft brush twice a day. Selsum blue dandruff shampoo works great also. 99% of the time they grow out of it, my daughter is 2 and has had it since she was a nb.
Avatar m tn If my face begins to itch I use a specific dandruff shampoo. Selson Blue is what works best for me. But you have to use the one with the red cap b/c it's much more potent than all the rest in their line. First you wash your neard with the Selson Blue(RedCap) and towel it dry. Let it dry completely on it's own for 15-20 minutes or blow dry it. Then use a beard conditioner of your choice the following morning.
Avatar f tn dandruff is dry skin - you can rub lotion into your scalp
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it can be seborrheic dermatitis. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium. If the symptoms persist, then it would be best to get it confirmed from a dermatologist.
Avatar m tn I would check K, D ,Calcium, and Magnesium levels or get a Dr to do it. Also, with scalp dermatitis it can be caused by dandruff Dandruff is caused by 3 types of fungus, so if you only use one type of shampoo it will never go away. I think using Cesium Blue, Head and shoulder and another... check the active ingredients on the back. Usually the two are because you are having a reaction to the cold. So, use the shampoo, conditioner, and lotion on your skin.
Avatar f tn Yes I would suggest using a head and shoulders type shampoo for dandruff (you may not have dandruff but the itchyness can be apart of that) if it persists, I'd suggest maybe going to the doctors, they may be able to prescribe something for it.
Avatar n tn You will also need to use it routinely to prevent recurrence, and you may find that a dandruff shampoo becomes ineffective at a certain point, in which case you will need to try a new product. In addition to medicated shampoos, dandruff can also be treated with tea tree oil, a plant compound which has been used in traditional medicine for hundreds of years.
Avatar f tn Hi, my daughter is 3 months old. She has had problems with an itchy scalp. Recently it has gotten worse. She itches all the time. We have shown her to the PCP 2 times and the first one said she thought it was eczema and asked us to shampoo regularly and to give her a hair wash regularly. The 2nd one said she could not see anything and asked us to keep skin dry. We have tried cetaphil, seldom blue shampoo, olive oil on scalp but the itching hasn't subsided. It just keeps getting worse.
Avatar f tn That one did a pretty good job of keeping my itching and dandruff in check. Benadryl helps, too. You may consider asking your doctor for something stronger for the itching, like Atarax.
Avatar f tn put them on holistic blue grain free chicken kibble and also adding salmon oil omega 3-6 in their food daily for one week now. What else could this be? I have bathed them in oatmeal shampoo as well. They are eating drinking and playing normally. Very happy pups.. But something is causing them to scratch their neck and lose hair, no redness to the area, no bumps, nothing but hair loss ..
Avatar f tn and also mixing one part castor oil to two parts olive oil and applying that to my scalp one a week has help me A great great deal....I put it in a little bottle like you would use for hair dye and apply just a little to my scalp once a week......also I wAs my hair once weekly....

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor.
Avatar f tn If the skin is oily, rinsing in vinegar water can help. The shampoo that might work is Nystatin shampoo, but try neem first.
