Avatar n tn Hello, Dandruff can be due to internal or external causes. Internal causes include hormonal imbalance, poor health, poor hygiene, allergic hypersensitivity, lack of rest, emotional stress, excessive consumption of sugar, fat or starch and heredity predisposition. External causes include excessive use of hair sprays and gels, improper use of hair-coloring products, cold weather and dry indoor heating, infrequent shampooing of the hair or inadequate rinsing of the scalp and hair.
Avatar n tn It started out of the blue, my scalp became very itchy and I could not help scratching it, when I scratched it, what appeared to be white flakes of skin came off. I thought this was just normal dandruff so bought Anti-dandruff shampoo (over the years I have tried every Anti-dandruff shampoo you can think of, even stuff from my GP).

Avatar n tn There are many over the counter anti dandruff shampoos. Selsen Blue is one of them. If your hair is naturally too oily, try a shampoo the says "clarifying" . A lot of these type of shampoos help at the root of the hair shaft and help balance out the amount of moisture present. I have a teenage daughter with this exact problem. I ended up buying a clarifying shampoo from a local beauty salon.

Avatar n tn After finishing the Clobex treatment (which did not help) I went off all prescription shampoos and started using all natural Neem shampoo which got rid of the dandruff. But the hair continued to fall. I went back to my regular doctor to get hormones, thyroid, allergies, vitamins and everything else tested and it all came back fine, except a copper and zinc deficiency.
Avatar n tn Hello, The symptoms can be due to dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis or lice. Eat a healthy diet. You can also take vit B6 and vit A and E which are good for hair and skin. Try medicated shampoos for dandruff. There are a number of over-the-counter shampoos available that can help. The most effective ingredients -- antimicrobials -- to look for are zinc pyridinethione, selenium sulfide, sulfur and ketoconazole (also available by prescription).

Avatar f tn About a year ago I decided to live a healthier and more active lifestyle. I changed my diet and started exercising 4-6 times a week. I have noticed that since I started exercising, my hair texture has changed. It used to lay flat and smooth after washing and now, I wash it normally with shampoo and conditioner and air dry, it's frizzy. My hair has never been frizzy like this. I use a hydrating shampoo and have tried different products but there is still the frizz.

Avatar f tn Hello, It can be due to dandruff or seborrheic dermatitis. Dandruff can cause either an overly dry scalp with itchy white flakes that may be waxy or greasy, or it can manifest as an oily scalp with scales. Seborrehic dermatitis, also called adult cradle cap is usually caused by overgrowth of Malassezia furfur. This skin disease is aggravated by sweating and humidity. I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist and get the diagnosis confirmed. Till then try medicated shampoos.
Avatar n tn All of these ingredients have been shown to work on dandruff; to use the shampoo, apply it to your scalp and hair, rub vigorously, and allow it to sit for five minutes so that the ingredients can work before rinsing it out. Dandruff shampoo should be used every few days, and you may need to try several shampoos before you find one which works.
