Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta for pain control

cymbalta

Avatar m tn Cymbalta actually worked for me after I had a major back surgery...i had alot of nerve damage in my sciatic and the cymbalta helped me while they were doing procedures to ease the nerve pain such as epidurals and rfas...however getting off of it was not the easiest thing I ever had to do...my dr lowered the dose and got me off of it safely but I was still going through some moderate withdrawals like shaking and nausea but they only lasted a few weeks and I was fine afterward...
Avatar m tn Hi, My doctor wants to put me on cymbalta for nerve pain that I have been having from an injury I have from 2005. It's nerve pain from a fall I took. He says it will help to calm down the nerves and signals from my brain to help with the pain. The prescription is for 30mg, 1 tab a day then increase to 2 tabs and recheck with him in a month. I'm alittle scared to take this, as I have never had to go on this kind of medicene and I'm afraid what the side effects might do.
Avatar n tn I use Cymbalta for abdomen, neck and hand pain and Fibromyalgia. It does a good job for me. There are some unpleasant side effects such as nausea and being light headed upon standing being the worst for me. I tried Neurontin and Lyrica. I couldn't take the side effects from either of those two. I've experienced life without Cymbalta. Without it my pains levels are considerably higher. My mood is much better on it.
1298907 tn?1272886488 My PMP moved me off the Paxil and increased the Cymbalta dosage. The Cymbalta does a good job on my mood, fibro pain and abdominal pain. All nerve issues. But it does make my nauseated. Not a big deal because of my abdominal adhesions, nausea is pretty much a constant in my life anyway. I keep a Rx of phenergan and use them daily. I tried neurontin. That was a horrible experience. It made me violently ill (nausea and vomiting) and kept my mind in a cloud.

747493 tn?1249589956 Well folks it seems that I may have found the right combination of meds to manage/control this pain. I am taking Cymbalta 60mgs twice daily, Lyrica 75mg twice daily, Skelaxin three times a day, Vicodin three times a day and AmbienCR 12.5mg at bedtime. The only problem now is keeping the IBS down which requires cleaning out the colon every few days. Ruthy66, Maybe this could help for you to try some of the above meds. Everything doesn't work for everybody but it may be worth a try.
Avatar f tn Does cymbalta cause weight gain? The doctor wants me to take it for chronic headaches but 5 years ago I took Lexapro and that made me gain weight! Help!
8496079 tn?1398412516 I take cymbalta for the pain in my hips. I find it works relatively well.
Avatar n tn My neurologist said he would not do test after I told him also dizzy and forgetting things. He said it was stress. Also, my "pcp" is treating me for fibromyalgia as far as my legs go. Had tried Cymbalta now on Savella.
Avatar m tn i am a senior over 65 and took 50 mg of paxil for about 15 years until it didn,t seem to work. For the past year i am on 50 mg of cymbalta which helps my back pain, depression but seems to do nothing for my ocd. is this a good drug for ocd?
Avatar m tn Sometimes changing the drug you are taking gives better pain control. Also take vitamin B and vitamin D supplement for a short time. Also, physiotherapy should be tried. Nerve blocks, epidurals and spinal cord stimulators may help (but can be costly). Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar f tn I saw my physiatrist last week for the increasing pain I am having related to my syrinx. He advised me to check back in with my NS, and gave me a script for Cymbalta. Apparently, this anti-depressant also works on nerves. I'm definitely not a depressed person - so I had my reservations for Cymbalta, but the pharmacist re-assured me that my dr prescribed it for neuro issues. However, my insurance is not picking up the Cymbalta, so my dr ordered Paroxetine in its place.
Avatar f tn I was put on it for nueropathic pain up my neck n down my arm. I have severe nerve damage. Cymbalta took all the pain away in my neck n some other nerve pain. I love it. It truely helped me. I also am on neurontin.
Avatar f tn I started weaning off of Cymbalta almost 3 weeks ago. Prior to that my blood sugar levels were usually between 70 and 110 in the mornings. In the early evenings, it would be between 120 and 130. If I tested after eating, it might be as high as 200 but drop quickly. Since I started the weaning process, my blood sugar is out of control. It rarely drops below 200 whether I eat or fast. There doesnt seem to be any correlation between my levels and what I eat.
Avatar m tn If so I feel cymbalta has not touched my chronic pain. I thought Lexapro was one that doctors used for pain with depression /anxiety but could be mixing them up. If you do have chronic pain as well ask about Pristique. mY pain management dr. says it is more effective in treating pain with depression/anxiety than cymbalta but I cannot take it because it makes me throw up (it is similiar to Effexor and i throw up with Effexor too...
Avatar m tn I was on Cymbalta for about 6 years. Last year my Pdoc doubled the dose for awhile. Then for 8 months we tried med changes. 10 different medicines. At the end he kept me on the 4 pill drug cocktail I had originally had before the episode. I am helped greatly by talk therapy. So I'm concentrating on that for now. What about you?
Avatar f tn I am at the end of my rope. My rheumatologist has perscribed me amitriptyline which makes my face swell and my heart race...she intern wrote me a script for cymbalta but,Medicaid will not approve it and its be en over two weeks .I feel like I have no purpose and just want to give up.I've been diagnosed with fibromyalgia-osteoarthritis-lupus-and multiple schlorsis.....my nerves are shot .....auto accident 2006 ,the lady was so high she ran a stop sign hit me and kept going.....
611606 tn?1315517767 It was a good drug at reducing some of my pain. I used Cymbalta in conjunction with prescribed pain medication and for once I thought I was truly going to have some quality of life, without so much pain. I am very worried about you continuing this drug, but this is something you need to decide with your doctor. I had to be weaned off the drug, because I had been on it for 3 months. If you have to go off of it, I do not know if you will have to weaned off of it, also.
Avatar m tn 1 year after my thyroid was removed, the same aches and fatigue returned and was told i have fibromalgia and put on cymbalta for pain relief. I read one of the posts that suggested that even though the thyroid is removed, i can still have the autoimmune graves' disease and if anyone out there also has this, please advise what is helping you. Thank you in advance for your help.

Avatar m tn Things fell apart when I was feeling depressed, and the my medication level was raised. I was on cymbalta 60mg a day, and was moved to cymbalta 90mg a day. I believe that caused a huge increase in suicidal thoughts, and I began to abuse oxycontin, whenever I could afford it. It was the only the thing at the time that allowed me to escape the thoughts of suicide. I finally admit my abuse of oxycontin, nobody in my family had suspected I was using such a hard drug.
