Cymbalta for pain

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta for pain

cymbalta

Avatar f tn I took Cymbalta for depression, however, I noticed a relief in pain of FMS with my first dosage. I discontinued it when I began taking Ultram (as they sometimes do not mix well). Anything that requires a prescription will come with certain side-effects...one needs to try the medication to see how it works and weigh if the difference in pain is significant enough for them to continue taking, as compared with the side-effects. What helps one, may not help the other.
Avatar m tn Hi, My doctor wants to put me on cymbalta for nerve pain that I have been having from an injury I have from 2005. It's nerve pain from a fall I took. He says it will help to calm down the nerves and signals from my brain to help with the pain. The prescription is for 30mg, 1 tab a day then increase to 2 tabs and recheck with him in a month. I'm alittle scared to take this, as I have never had to go on this kind of medicene and I'm afraid what the side effects might do.
Avatar f tn I am taking a quick survey of anyone that has tried Cymbalta for pain, along with what wlse you are on that decreases neruogenic pain. Thanks!
Avatar m tn Cymbalta will help with nerve pain in higher dose's, im on 180mg per day for depression and pain, it works great with dep. and not real well for pain. But sometimes we do get pain from deperrsion. It can have an effect on sex somewhat. Give the cymbalta a try, keep your Dr informed as to any side effects you might have.
Avatar n tn I have weined off cymbalta for a month cutting my dose in half then stopping. Is it normal to get some dizziness for awhile and what it that causedf from??
Avatar f tn Cymbalta works to relieve fibromyalgia pain is not entirely understood but it's thought that by increasing the activity of two naturally-occurring substances -- serotonin and norepinephrine -- it suppresses pain. I have been on Cymbalta for several years and know that it does help. I was unable for a period of four or five months to obtain cymbalta so ran out. I noticed that my pain increased so for whatever it is worth; it does help in some way.
Avatar f tn I am sure that u made your decision long ago, but I just want to note my experience for someone else's future reference. I took it for depression & fibromyalgia (chronic pain all over the body, which also makes wearing clothing uncomfortable often). I was on it for about 5 months & weaned myself to 30mg from 60mg because I got kicked off of Medicaid, and put on Medicare, having to pay a lot more out of pocket than I can handle.
Cat my new insurance wont pay for my cymbalta which I use for chronic back pain/pre-menopausal mood swings - is there anything out there rx or otc that does the same thing but is cheaper for insurance - or would I hav to break it down to two separate prescriptions
4186651 tn?1357834557 i was on cymbalta for pain also and after 2 weeks discontinued use because it made me go crazy. i was moody, violent, irritable(more than usual), withdrawn. like i just didnt care. than i tried effexor xr which did the same. so now im really leary of meds. but it may work for you, just watch yourself and if you live with someone havethem keep an eye on your moods?!
Avatar m tn I sometimes take Remeron at bedtime if I need it to sleep. I do wish they helped me more for the pain-pain, ha. Other than otc pain meds, Excedrin, or aleve. I do have muscle relaxers like flexeril and a bottle of doxepin ( sinequan ) but I haven't taken either in a very long time, not even when I was in withdrawls, I guess I just was afraid to take them. although I should have taken whatever worked, ?? Muscle relaxers just make me so very foggy the next day, miserable.
1168718 tn?1464987135 I was on cymbalta for a little while. It really helped me with the pain but its side affects kept me from taking it any longer. I started with headaches everyday then my neuro took me off of it and said that headaches are not something he wants me to have. I do take lyrica and it helps take the edge off of the pain. I hope he finds some kind of med that will help you. The gabapentin helped me for a while then stopped working so we increased the dose and it made me short of breath.
Avatar n tn My roomie takes Cymbalta and while it does cause the weight gain it seems to work for some of the pain. I believe it has to do with slowing your metabolisim as to the weight gain so you have to consider the pros and cons of this one.
Avatar f tn My Endo also said it wasn't a good drug. I was told to try cymbalta for the joint pains but am reluctant to try it as I'm afraid I will have even worse side effects. Has anyone ever tried cymbalta for joint pains due to Hashi's?
630344 tn?1280108583 This week I will be starting a double-blind study to see if 30 mg is effective for FMS pain. I won't know for some time if I'm using the placebo or the actual Cymbalta. I am sensitive to medications and I am a skeptic, since I've done badly on everything I've tried before. I do more natural therapy than I do pharmaceutical. I guess I will also find out if this stuff will help with the number of and intensity of the chronic migraines, too.
596143 tn?1226651654 anyway, my question is--Has anyone had luck with cymbalta? And does cymbalta work for fibro and cfs? Why isn't he referring me to a neuro or a pain mgmt doc?
177382 tn?1253044740 I do have some depression as well not svere. Anyway, my doctor rx me Cymbalta. it was originally developed for people with neuropathic pain from diabetes. I had terrible back pain, tingling in my toes that drove me crazy all night long, and pins and needles feelings in my lower legs and feet. Cymbalta saved my life, I tried paxil it made me feel like I was in a daze i was not myself i could hear myself talking very slowly but it didn't seem like it was me talking. It was weird.
Avatar m tn Cymbalta is an SNRI which may make a difference for you. I took it for about 2 years and had no side effects.
922573 tn?1304102929 ) be careful and talk to your doctor if you have or have ever had any issues with depression or anxiety. As for fatigue and vertigo issues it is sad that most of the meds used for pain cause fatigue. It sounds like your doc is willing to try different meds to find what works for you. I have vague nerve issues so I too have to be careful of signs of vertigo as I will faint. There is no easy answer but I wish you luck on your journey.
Avatar n tn I was tried on Cymbalta for treatment of severe pain and what they thought was depression, ummm hello! anyone in severe pain for years would be depressed seems a pretty normal reaction. I'd be worried if someone was giddy about it. ANNYYHOO . The Cymbalta gave me really wierd effects, jaw clenching twitchy feeling eyes rolling and crawly feeling on my skin. Dr said serotonin toxicity.
1168718 tn?1464987135 I have been getting these lumps all through my body, and they are painful at times, and I think he thought maybe it would work for pain and help me sleep better to, I do take Zoplicone to sleep 2x7.5 mg. pills................ I know this is alot of info, but since I am now injecting, I am wondering how all this is going to work.
1627868 tn?1333889942 on the other hand, i have also read other accounts of it being very effective for neuropathic pain. it's so hard to say what will happen. are you particularly sensitive to medication in general? i know i am, so i chose to avoid cymbalta. i did take nortryptiline to help with my neuropathy, and it didn't do much to me except knock me out but good at night which wasn't such a bad thing. i often have a lot of trouble staying asleep.
Avatar f tn Anyone taking Cymbalta for depression/anxiety? What do you think about it? Just prescribed that today, after telling my new doc that SSRI's I have tried in the past have had some pretty nasty side effects...he thought this might help with my pain issues as well...I'm not able to find a ton about it good or bad seeing as it's a pretty new drug. Any thoughts on this one?
Avatar f tn Does cymbalta cause weight gain? The doctor wants me to take it for chronic headaches but 5 years ago I took Lexapro and that made me gain weight! Help!
Avatar m tn If so I feel cymbalta has not touched my chronic pain. I thought Lexapro was one that doctors used for pain with depression /anxiety but could be mixing them up. If you do have chronic pain as well ask about Pristique. mY pain management dr. says it is more effective in treating pain with depression/anxiety than cymbalta but I cannot take it because it makes me throw up (it is similiar to Effexor and i throw up with Effexor too...
Avatar f tn CYMBALTA HAS BEEN A GOD SENT FOR ME, IT HAS HELPED MY NERVE PAIN AS I GET BURNING IN MY FEET AND HELPS MILDLY FOR SOME PAIN AS DOES LYRICA I TAKE... I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY WITHDRWAL EFECTS FROM IT AND I TAKE 60MG MORNING AND 60MG NIGHT. THE ONLY TIME I EVER WENT OFF IS WHEN I FORGOT IT ON VACATION ONE TIME BUT I WAS FINE WITHOUT IT. AS WITH PAIN MEDS ON THE OTHER HAND, NOW THAT IS A DIFFERENT STORY....
400867 tn?1371756694 So I took my first Cymbalta today. Other than Paxil, nothing else has worked for me (Lexapro and Effexor). Anyone have any good experiences with Cymbalta? Just wondering what I'm in for this time... Thanks!!
Avatar n tn I was on Cymbalta for awhile, but it didn't work for me either. I am presently on Lyrica. I take 150mg a day. Yes it can cause weight gain, however if you eat right and exercise, you should be fine. Lyrica has been a big help for me and you should try it even if it is only on a trial basis.
Avatar m tn I am no longer on any type of AD, but had the VERY WORST side effects when I was on Cymbalta. It was given to me for chronic pain issues. Not only did it not work for those, it gave me so many other side effects, I could not wait to get off of it.
Avatar m tn still having some of the same problems, I see. You've only been on the Cymbalta for 4 days, you need to give it time to reach therapeutic levels before making any decisions about it's efficacy for you. As for the ache, if you discussed it with your doctor like I suggested, but it has returned, then by all means let him know it's back. It could warrant some further testing.
1442059 tn?1340244552 I was on Cymbalta for 5 months. Only side-effects I had was nausea for about 1 week then it went away. Cymbalta was very energetic and helped me going thru the hard time I was dealing when my mom had cancer. When she passed I stopped cold turkey and had brain zaps for 1 month. This drug is very potent and can work very well but it's not a cheap drug and cost a lot. I was very active while being on Cymbalta (going to the gym 3-4 times a week and jogging 45 min everyday) and very outgoing.
