Cymbalta for nerve pain relief

Common Questions and Answers about Cymbalta for nerve pain relief

Avatar m tn Cymbalta actually worked for me after I had a major back surgery...i had alot of nerve damage in my sciatic and the cymbalta helped me while they were doing procedures to ease the nerve pain such as epidurals and rfas...however getting off of it was not the easiest thing I ever had to dr lowered the dose and got me off of it safely but I was still going through some moderate withdrawals like shaking and nausea but they only lasted a few weeks and I was fine afterward...
Avatar n tn My doctor had prescribed me Cymbalta for nerve pain, as I suffer with Degenerative Disk Disease and Sciatica. I found it helped a bit, but haven't taken it since the end of 2008, as I got pregnant. I found that it made me a bit tired in the beginning, but my body soon adjusted. If I recall, it took about 3 weeks before it was really noticeable as effective. Good luck with it.
922573 tn?1304102929 I took neurontin but it did not provide good pain relief for me. I am taking Lyrica now and have responded much better. I have issues with depression and anxiety and have been on an SSRI for over a decade with good results. My PCP also wanted to try Cymbalta and titrated me off my SSRI and into Cymbalta. I nearly had to be hospitalized due to very, very dark thoughts and hopelessness. I was quickly put back on my SSRI and taken off of Cymbalta.
611606 tn?1315521367 Always such a fine line we have to walk.. Is there any one else using Cymbalta for deep nerve pain? This is such a double edge sword, and feels so unfair... But than there are times when nothing seems fair. I am sorry this is such a long post, I hope I didn't make it too hard to follow. Thank you in advance for any in-put you might have for me... Hugs on the winds to each of you.{{{{{~!~}}}}} DJ PS: I am doing fine, thanks to my Faith and Our heavenly Father.
186166 tn?1385262982 and is VERY expensive! I was told that there are pain relief properities in Cymbalta so you are right on the money! I'm really pissed that I can't try it but you know how the Ins Industry is. Practicing medicine w/o a license!!!!! Very frustrating! Have a good day Kim!
1298907 tn?1272890088 Whether it was prescribed for depression/anxiety issues or for nerve pain I'm really interested in knowing how well people are experiencing actual results from it as far as pain relief is concerned & also how well it works for depression as compared to some of the other common anti-depressants such as zoloft, prozac, lexapro. I've tried all 3 of these, liked Lexapro the best.
233622 tn?1279338505 Any one on Cymbalta for pain? My doctor said there is large nerve pain, which is why I am on Neurontin. And small neve pain, which is why he started me on Cymbalta. I am having awful sensory issues in my right foot and leg. He said Cymbalta works better for pain than depression. I am already on Lexapro and it seems to be working ok. At least my MS is holding steady at the moment!
Avatar n tn Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone can tell me if you do have ms and it is the type that causes nerve pain and muscle spasms when you start taking the drugs they put you on do you get relief from the pain?
Avatar m tn I take 2000mg Gabapentin for Neuropathic pain Relief qid(8000mg daily) and 60mg of Cymbalta daily. I have a broken spine due to my service related injury incurred while serving in the Canadian Forces Regular Forces(Army). I take care of three young children while my wife is at work. I am in a level ten pain 24/7. The Gabapentin gives me a couple hours of level 8 pain in the afternoon. Any suggestions?
1088430 tn?1259163373 I've been on 120mg of Cymbalta for almost 4 years. My PM Doc put me on it to treat horrendous nerve pain, which it does make a difference with. I was able to reduce (greatly!) the level of opiate based pain meds I was on as a result of the Cymbalta. BUT I was still working when I firts started it, and I felt it made me feel "Zombie" during the day, so my Doc switched me to taking both pills @night, which helped with the daytime drowsiness.
Avatar m tn 8000mg/day is not a high dose for nerve pain. I am 260lbs. I already take B complex and Vitamin D. What has helped was having my daily dose increased to 12,000mg which I now take in ten divided doses with cayenne pepper capsules to help increase absorption. I also take Naproxen twice daily which increases the absorption by 15%. I am allergic to opiates, so I am unable to take any pain killers. So far, my new medication regiment has helped to reduce my pain slightly.
Avatar f tn (I also have fibromyalgia.) I did stellate ganglion blocks for the nerve pain and have had varying relief with them. Maybe it's something you could ask about. Best of luck.
Avatar f tn I have been taking the remeron for a couple of months and love it, but the doctor has added Cymbalta to the mix for nerve pain. I have only been taking it for 3 days but my anxiety has it the roof and it has not touched my pain. I realize it takes a while for it to get in your system but I am not sure I can handle the anxiety. Are these 2 drugs safe to take together? I worry about seratonin syndrome.
Avatar m tn Again I know that there are many other first line medicines for nerve pain that most of whcih Ive tried, neurontin, lyrica, amitrypilline, acupuncture and some others, but I dont want to go use any sort of opiate for pain. So has anyone who has taken klonopin who had some kind of nerve pain get any relief???? That is the question. Thanks.
Avatar f tn ... after a few weeks on it, I started getting these weird "tweaks" on it - like I'd lay in bed, and I felt like I'd have this weird little body spasm/tweak. then I looked on some board about people's side effects, and a few people discussed the "brain zaps." when I read that - it was exactly what I felt, but couldn't put into words...
Avatar f tn I have been on Remeron for a few months and it has really helped with my anxiety. Recently my Doctor added cymbalta for nerve pain. This is only my third day with the cymbalta and my anxiety level is shooting through the roof. Also I have this dang ringing in my ears that does not want to go away. I questioned my doctor about taking remeron and cymbalta together and asured me that they work great together. I honestly don't know if I can stand this feeling. My husband wants me to hang in there.
Avatar n tn Touching the area brings no relief, I think that it makes it worse. I might have 5 attacks a day, then none for a day or two. Nighttime seems to be the worse. I am on Neurontin and my neurologist just put me on Cymbalta to see if that helps. Unfortunately, I am still experencing pain. Does any have any similar pain? I am open to ideas as to how to deal with the pain. Thanks....
Avatar n tn (i may be wrong on the name, but its common for seizure, but also indicated for nerve pain) what else is there for nerve pain due to trauma?? note: i am allergic to morpheine (extreme high fever) i refuse to take codeine (knocks me out and wake up feeling like i am moving inside) sorry for the long setup, but i would greatly appreciate any responses and am more than willing to answer any questions.
Avatar f tn Has anyone had similar pain, sypmtoms or issues? I am looking for help in diagnosis seeing how my Dr's do not want to help but just write me prescriptions to medications that do not work. I have tried Cymbalta, and a few other anti-depressants that had an off label use for pain, unfortunately those medications AMPLIFIED my pain and it was all bad. I am now on gabbapentin, which helps when the pain is mild but not bad.
3063937 tn?1352426455 I didn't read all the post above but I have heard nothing but good things about lyrica for fybro.
Avatar f tn She takes cymbalta for nerve damage and pain and it helps with a number of things you listed vibrations vertigo etc, is also a anti depressant and it gives you energy. She is also taking neurontin for nerve pain as well as vicodin when it gets really bad. I hope this is some use to you.
Avatar f tn But told by my Chiropractor that my results were normal. Now im left with no cause,,, I was placed on Cymbalta for Nerve damage. The pain is still there, I cant walk long distances before my left muscle below my shoulder blade tenses and stays tight. I also been going thru Accupunture for the past month. Heat doesn't work and cold provided short relief. I have no answer as to what is going on and I don't know what to do, I just want to stop hurting.
Avatar f tn Also I have heard of some people taking Lyrica for fibromyalgia pain, and Also you can take Neurontin/ Gabapentin for nerve pain (for the peripheral neuropathy) None of these have tylenol in them. Hope this helps and good job on being clean for 12 years!!
Avatar f tn I'm extremely stressed out all the time. My doctor gave me cymbalta and I felt like a new person. No pain, energy. I loved it. But I had a rare side effect (of course) where I had trouble urinating and I had to stop taking it. While I was on it, it really helped me. Now I'm back to constantly hurting and aching.
Avatar f tn Nerve pain should be treated with something like neurotin or Lyrica that specifically works on nerve pain. Narcotics will not do much to help that sort of pain. Hope you get to feeling better soon!
Avatar f tn I still really want to give Savella another go, but am going to taper off of Cymbalta waaay slower than last time. For now I am taking the Cymbalta. In my opinion it doesn't do squat for my pain, but does help with my mood and energy.
Avatar n tn Alternatively, you can ask your primary care doctor for a prescription for gabapentin (Neurontin), and gradually ramp up the dosage. It may give you some pain relief, as the usual pain killers don't work for nerve pain. Another option that may help with both nerve pain and anxiety: Cymbalta is supposed to be helpful with both. I have any actual experience with it, but it's worth a try- and I think you can make arrangements to get the first month free. Best of luck to you.
867787 tn?1318939830 I saw my PCP today & calmly confronted him on my lack of care. He ordered a MRI of my brain & cervical spine but have to check & see which hospitals offer financial aid programs & I'm also still hoping the MSAA comes through. He prescribed me Cymbalta & said it was good for nerve pain. I was wondering if any of you have tried this & if so did it help & are there any side effects I should be aware of?
Avatar n tn I have been told that it is permenent and that i could take Cymbalta. I refused and live with the pain. I need suggestions on how to deal with this. It affects my sleep, my mood with my children adn husband and my outlook on life. I cant find anything on the nerve pain affiliated with this condition. Idea????
