Avatar n tn Hi all, I'm new to this site but not new to psoriasis. I'll try to keep this as brief as possible. I've had psoriasis on the palms of my hands and ONLY the palms of my hands for over 10 years. I face the typical thick, cracked, bleeding skin. Seen many dermatologists and have used many, many topicals AND the X-Trac laser treatment but nothing works.
Avatar n tn Are there any known side effects for Shen Calmer and Liver Happy Capsules? My dog has been taking them for about a week now. He is taking them for anxiety, no signs of relief yet, but no prescriptions have helped him so this is our last resort. The second day he vomited and the vet said she hadn't ever seen that so we have kept going.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Weight gain, fluid retention, mood swings, increased blood pressure and osteoporosis are few side effects of steroids. Cyclosporine may cause muscle pain, joint pains, heartburn etc. These two drugs form the mainstay of treatment. These side effects may gradually ware off. A low-salt diet and diuretics may help with swelling in the hands and legs. Low-protein diets may be helpful.

1732853 tn?1366758928 Like most immunosuppressants, the side effects can be pretty severe. I am pretty sure that my diabetes is directly connected to my immunosuppressive use and I also have elevated creatinine levels which long term will be problematic. It is not unusual for long term cyclosporine users to have renal failure. Biggest side effect I've noticed is body hair growth- my has been very noticable on my arms, legs, chest, and back.
1230229 tn?1447215761 Hello, There are many treatment options for psoriasis, chief ones being cognitive behavior therapy, creams containing coal tar, dithranol (anthralin), corticosteroids like desoximetasone, fluocinonide, vitamin D3 analogues and retinoids and phototherapy and photochemotherapy. Psoriasis that is resistant to topical treatment and phototherapy is treated by medications that are taken internally by pill or injection.
Avatar m tn I did have some lab work done for immune disorders and i did have skin biopsies done. I am using clobetesol soln. for my scalp, hydrocortisone valerate cream for my face, fluocinonide ointment for my legs and arms and hands, and also Hydroxyzine orally for the itching and rash. These are all prescription. In addition I use Keri lotion or Eucerin cream for my skin. It all helps and it is a lot better than it was. but it is not totally gone. Here are some links to photos of psoriasis.

663470 tn?1243207890 ve had Psoriasis for about a year now, and It started off on the left side of my head by my ears and is now all over my scalp. It doesn't seem to be going away. I've tried a lot of the home treatments that I found on the national psoriasis foundation.com but none of them seemed to work permanently. I tried salicylic acid treatments and nothing has helped. I am loosing my hair and I am afraid that the Psoriasis is going to begin to spread to my neck and other places on my body.
Avatar f tn The side effects of these medicines are to be taken into consideration and they are prescribed only when benefits seem more than the side effects.Side effects of cyclosporine include nephro(kidney) toxicity, infections, high BP,seizures,endocrine/metabolic conditions and lymphomas. You are right in saying that the incidence of allergies are rising day be day.

900952 tn?1262692177 Hi, my husband has terrible Psoriasis on probably about 40% of his body, mostly on the bony areas that rub on clothing/hats etc. It runs in his family with his mother and all of his siblings experiencing periodic outbreaks of varying severity. He's tried a lot of steroid ointments and lotions that only work for a short time. He's tried non-soap body washes, shampoos and moisturisers.
Avatar n tn Psoriasis is considered a long-term (chronic) skin condition. It has a variable course with periodic ups and downs. Sometimes psoriasis may clear for years and stay in remission. Some people have worsening of their symptoms in the colder winter months. Many people report improvement in warmer months, climates, or with increased sunlight exposure. The exact cause is not known. It maybe due to a combination of factors, including genetic predisposition and environmental factors.

Avatar m tn I am currently under St Thomas hospital for this, they are stating I should take Cyclosporine for 6 months, I was wondering if someone on here has taken this treatment and it has worked for them??, I am not convinced on this medication as I have read so many bad things about it. My consultant has stated that 70% of people whilst on cyclosporine will be clear, one third will have total remission, one third will be same as before, one third will be worse once the treatment has stopped.
Avatar n tn I was given an immunosurpressant called cyclosporine which helped keep the psoriasis like rashes away but I had persistent red bumps which didnt itch, but would spike in pain under stress/ excessive activities like carrying a lot of heavy things. Cyclosporine was never seen as a permanent treatment and my doctors wanted to wean off. About 6 months since beginning cyclosporine my condition changed to be much more needle pain than rash, and i stopped getting psoriasis like rashes altogether.

1570772 tn?1295666856 Hello, It is true that taking oral steroids for a long period of time is not without side effects and the dose needs to be tapered off. Psoriasis is a non-contagious disorder which affects the skin and joints. It commonly causes red scaly patches to appear on the skin.It can be treated but it commonly has recurrences also.So a regular treatment is required for this.
Avatar m tn I know that you said that your dog has been on cyclosporine in the past for the treatment of KCS, however has she ever used a product called 'Optimmune"? It's a preparation that contains cyclosporine but it's different from the cyclosporine drops. When eyedrop preparations to treat KCS are made up, they have stabilizers put in so that they don't lose their potency too quickly before the whole preparation can be used.
Avatar n tn Hello, It is true that long term use of steroids is not without side effects and the side effects include skin thinning, atrophy, telangiectasia and steroid induced rosacea. To tackle these side effects it is advisable to taper the dose of steroids under your dermatologist’s guidance and then start again after a few days. Also treatment can be changed after a period of time and a combination of treatments is used. I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar m tn Could taking less ursodiol have contributed to my diminishing symptoms. What would be the lest acceptable through cyclosporine level for a patient on mono -therapy four and one half years post transplant with no episodes of rejection? Thank you so very much Dr.
