Avatar n tn Are there any known side effects for Shen Calmer and Liver Happy Capsules? My dog has been taking them for about a week now. He is taking them for anxiety, no signs of relief yet, but no prescriptions have helped him so this is our last resort. The second day he vomited and the vet said she hadn't ever seen that so we have kept going.
Avatar m tn Hi there, Weight gain, fluid retention, mood swings, increased blood pressure and osteoporosis are few side effects of steroids. Cyclosporine may cause muscle pain, joint pains, heartburn etc. These two drugs form the mainstay of treatment. These side effects may gradually ware off. A low-salt diet and diuretics may help with swelling in the hands and legs. Low-protein diets may be helpful.
1732853 tn?1366758928 Like most immunosuppressants, the side effects can be pretty severe. I am pretty sure that my diabetes is directly connected to my immunosuppressive use and I also have elevated creatinine levels which long term will be problematic. It is not unusual for long term cyclosporine users to have renal failure. Biggest side effect I've noticed is body hair growth- my has been very noticable on my arms, legs, chest, and back.
Avatar f tn The side effects of these medicines are to be taken into consideration and they are prescribed only when benefits seem more than the side effects.Side effects of cyclosporine include nephro(kidney) toxicity, infections, high BP,seizures,endocrine/metabolic conditions and lymphomas. You are right in saying that the incidence of allergies are rising day be day.
Avatar m tn 1 mg/kg, 78% of patients attained complete remission. Side effects were generally mild and seen in 35% of patients; all were reversible by dose reduction. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn I am still on 100 mg 2x daily cyclosporine. My cyclosporine through levels have been lower, the last time they were at 79. I Have been on 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for biliary stricture since tx. I lowered the dose to 300mg once daily but just recently raised it back to 300x 3 daily because right side discomfort an increase in bilirubin. My headaches and fluid in ears have gotten better, still have the vision issues but heart palpitations have also lessened.
Avatar f tn About 6 months ago, I was finally diagnosed and started taking cyclosporine 100 mg 2x day. After a week, I could eat like a normal person—just about anything I wanted. It was great, it even allowed me to travel to Europe. The cyclosporine I was taking was a powder in a capsule, apparently this has been taken off the market and instead I took the same medication, but it was in the form of a capsule with alcohol. Unfortunately, after a short time, I was right back to before treatment.
Avatar f tn Yes I took Cyclosporine for my aquagenic urticaria, it helped so much but not enough to have a normal life :S but maybe for you its going to be different...
Avatar n tn In an additional 33 patients, glomerular and tubular NEP protein levels from renal graft biopsies were significantly higher among the 13 patients receiving cyclosporine + EC-MPS than among the 12 patients receiving cyclosporine + azathioprine or 8 patients receiving cyclosporine alone. Glomerular NEP expression inversely correlated with glomerulosclerosis and proteinuria, and tubular NEP expression inversely correlated with interstitial fibrosis.
1054753 tn?1339968724 After cyclosporine was introduced, liver transplant recipients began to do well, but soon the recipients and medical teams noticed many side effects of the immune suppression ranging from infections to kidney injury to increased risk for certain malignancies. For these reasons (and others) there has been a lot of focus on reducing the level of immune suppression as much as possible while still protecting the liver graft. So what happens when immune suppression is decreased or even stopped?
Avatar m tn So while these preparations are supposed to help because the cyclosporine jump-starts the lacrimal gland back into working to produce actual tears, the soap that is in them actually serves to irritate the eyes, pretty much negating any beneficial effects of the cyclosporine. Optimmune contains no soap and it has been proven to be EXTREMELY effective in helping dogs with even advanced cases of KCS.

Avatar f tn Triamcinolone is a steroid which does have side effects, vomiting being a very common one. San Ren Tang is an herb with only anecdotal info on it's effectiveness. It is generally used for digestive issues (constipation, diarrhea, bloating, etc. Have you gotten back to your vet to tell him about the vomiting? He may be able to prescribe a different steroid or change the dosage to alleviate the vomiting or prescribe an additional medication/diet to alleviate the vomiting.
Avatar m tn exciting news! i hope it doesn't have bad side effects.
Avatar m tn Well, for starters I suggest you study the list of side effects for cyclosporine to see if those help explain your symptoms. Physical fitness is something I urge you to work on improving so far as readily managed, even if it seems bothersome. Your eating / lowered blood pressure suggest to me you could try reducing your meal sizes (perhaps increase the number of meals/day if you're at a healthy weight).
Avatar n tn Morphine itself, however, is not affected by grapefruit juice, as it is not metabolized by the cytochrome P450 system. * Cyclosporine (Neoral). Blood levels of cyclosporine are increased if taken with grapefruit juice. A plausible mechanism involves the combined inhibition of enteric CYP3A4 and P-glycoprotein, which potentially leads to serious adverse events (e.g., nephrotoxicity).Blood levels of tacrolimus (Prograf) can also be equally affected for the same reason as with cyclosporine.
Avatar m tn Is anyone aware of any studies concerning the effects on kidneys following metal on metal hip replacements? I find it curious that the incidence of kidney disease over the past 15 years has increased at the same time metal on metal hip replacements became widespread. Lately those metal on metal devices have been shown to be a train wreck, with metal particles entering the bloodstream. Probably too soon for any studies related to kidneys, but maybe not...anyone know?
Avatar m tn The specialist reviewed all of the options with us - cyclosporine, pilocarpine or tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said that very rarely has she seen any dog respond to cyclosporine after not responding to tacrolimus. She also said that because our dog doesn't have a dry, goopy nose, that pilocarpine wouldn't be a first choice. She recommended a mix of tacrolimus with sirolimus. She said sirolimus is new. I have not been able to find anything about this drug on the internet.
Avatar n tn I was switched to cyclosporine and Myfortic. When the Incivek was started my cyclosporine was dropped to 25 mg once per day due to their interaction. Due to my previous non-response and to the multiple variations of the HCV I carry my odds were considered to be about 30%, maybe 40% at best. At the end of week 4 the HCV RNA was not detectable. The only additional side effect is that the anemia came quicker this time. I will start Procrit injections probably sometime this week.
Avatar f tn I have been prescribed teva-cyclosporine 0.05%, I was wondering if it is okay to put the eye drops in my eye, and then after like 10 minutes or more use a warm eye compress, I am very stressed due to my bloodshot eyes from dry eye, and I find that the warm compress helps me to fall asleep but do not want to "wash" away or eliminate the effects of the eye drops with the moisture from the warm compress. any thoughts will be appreciated !
Avatar f tn If they fail or cause undesirable side effects then methotrexate, azothiaprine and cyclosporine are used instead. Other than this, most patients need life long hormone replacement therapy. Repeated recurrence is treated with radiosurgery if medical therapies after initial surgery fail. As of now there are no other treatment options. Hope this helps. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn Close to five years post liver transplant. No rejections, cyclosporine mono -therapy .Also take 300 mg ursodiol 3x daily for bile duct stricture. Vascular hyper-tensions are becoming a real concern. ie heart, palpitations . fluid in ears , vision problems that aren't related to my actual eyes, the opthamologist confirmed, Migraines that have actually gotten better lately. kidney function is still adequate. My liver is doing very good especially with hep-c..
Avatar m tn i would be extremely cautious about using it until more data is available especially since its purported effects on tacrolimus and cyclosporine metabolism are extreme. i am quite confident that there will be clinical trials coming down the road extremely soon.
Avatar n tn Hi there and thank you for your reply. I've tried many treatments, as I said, but the gluten free diet has made the most significant change in my hands. The more serious meds (that is, the meds with serious side effects) I'm not interested in taking. My insurance probably wouldn't pay for it anyway. Cheers!
Avatar m tn and the vet will probably prescribe cyclosporine drops to help the eye produce more tears. Before you use the cyclosporine drops, be aware that they will sting your dogs eyes, and long term use may contribute to kidney disease...talk this over with your vet. Since your dog is 12 years old, please have annual bloodwork done on him to assess liver and kidney functions...bloodwork should be done on all senior dogs. Best Wishes for you and your dog.....
