Common Questions and Answers about Coughing mucus eating

coughing

Avatar f tn t humidify the air sufficiently, then as it moves along it drys and thickens mucus further down. Eating stimulates saliva flow which starts to loosen the thick mucus and you end up with a cough. In my own case it's often a deep choking cough. It can help to drink some water about 15min or so before eating. Flushing the nose with saline solution beforehand can help as well.
Avatar m tn I read in Prevention magazine that coughing can be controlled by eating dark chocolate. I bought a bar of it and broke off a square and ate it every time I felt like coughing after eating. It cleared up after a week of doing this.
Avatar n tn Excess mucus causes coughing. You can get a mucolytic (mucus thinner) called guaifenesin over-the-counter. Mucinex contains gauifenesin but I would get the plain guaifenesin. Vitamin B5 also thins mucus. He would have to take 500 mg a day. No side effects. Then there are anti-inflammatories, among them Vitamin C. Of course, stopping smoking would help the most, but you have had no success in that area. Maybe once he gets more comfortable at reducing the coughing he will think about quitting.
Avatar f tn I have chronic coughing spells, sometimes at night most times while eating. The coughing is so violent it causes me to vomit. My chest and arms burn when I vomit and, hard to breath. Excessive amounts of mucus is present. What would cause this?
Avatar m tn Has anyone tried using a netipot to relieve these symptoms? I have had the same problem for exactly a year now and it's really become unbearable. I feel a constant tightness in my throat and every time I swallow, I have coughing fits.Throughout the day I will have to clear my throat and i always have clear mucus to clear. It's made it to the point where I don't looking forward to meals anymore b/c I know what to expect.
Avatar n tn I am a male age 60. In the last 6 months I have experienced coughing, choking and mucus for about 30 minutes after eating. I first thought it was related to a food allergy, but I cannot isolate it to any specific food group. I do not experinece and acid reflux or vomiting, just constant choking. This is very irritating and is a bit strange. Does anyone have an idea of the cause or where I should go for resolution.
Avatar f tn After eating certain foods I get quite a bit of mucus build-up in my lungs and find myself coughing a lot after meals. I'm 17 years old and don't think this is due to acid reflux as I don't have any other symptoms and am quite young. I notice it immediately after I finish eating (not sure if it actually starts during eating as I'm not really focused on how my chest feels while eating). Does anyone have any idea of what this may be?
Avatar n tn I have had the same cough for several years. It's always after I eat. I've been to all kinds of doctors and have tried all kinds of medicines but the only thing that ever helped me was Prednisone. The problem is that it's a steroid and doctors don't like to give it because it has side effects, but I can take it for 7 days and then I'm good for a couple of months with absolutely no coughing. When it starts again I take it for another week.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with lupus in 1997, which has since been in remission. I have always had extreme sensitivity to dust, smoke, smog, strong smells etc., etc, wherein particles seemed to get into my throat and mucus builds up in throat and I cough for I seem to be about to choke. Recently, I ingested a piece of plastic and subsequently, bronchoscopy was done, and findings were normal, the plastic wasn't in my lungs.
Avatar m tn The problem is because of slow down of stomach. As you said it right; GERD / Acid indigestion are often caused by slow stomach. When the stomach slowed down there is a build up of food and once you had mucus which was probably because of recent cold, it does not have a way to get out normally through colon. So what happens is that it tries to come out through mouth. One way to get this problem resolved is to take necessary steps to empty the stomach through detox.
Avatar f tn I go into a coughing spell that won't stop until a vomit a large wad of clear mucus. I have been to Pulmonary Dr., ENT Dr., MD's. Asthma & Allergy Consultants and they all say something different. Please give me some information.
Avatar f tn I got sick about 3 weeks ago i was coughing real bad i felt like i had mucus in my chest but couldnt get them out i decided to just not take medicine i only took lemon with honey i guess the mucus cleared up on its own because i could never spit them out it lasted about a week and 1/2 the only thing that happened was i pulled a muscle coughing but nothing super bad..
Avatar n tn Barbara533 Have you tried an antihistamine? rushtyyyyy green and yellow flem should not be coming up from allergy unless it is stomach acid. Usually allergy is clear mucus. I'm not a doctor but I wonder if it is a bacteria infection. Sorry I don't know the correct answer. Maybe the doctors are correct too. I just personally haven't heard of colored mucus from allergy. Allergy can cause mucus that can lead to bacteria infection too. See another doctor.
Avatar n tn Second day I started to get a sore throat and started coughing really hard with a lot of dark green mucus coming out of my coughs. My nose usually stayed runny all day but usually at night when I'd go to sleep it wouldn't run. But I started coughing and sometimes there's blood in the mucus when I cough up, little amounts in the mucus. My temperature was 99.8, but recently around after day 5 my soar throat went away.
Avatar n tn After the wet cough / gag / coughing up the clear mucus, I feel relief but sometimes it causes me to want to throw up since the food in my stomach rises too much. It's the WORST with sweet food and processed foods. Like eating a single gummy bear will trigger a reaction as severe as a big meal. I also feel like carbs are worse than proteins. Minutes after eating a slice of cake I can feel the slimyness in my saliva and it makes me want to gag.
Avatar f tn I suffered from the symptoms of coughing/spitting mucus after eating and a froggy voice for a few years after turning 14. It then intensified and encompassed chronic nasal congestion/sinus pressure and painful coughing. I acquired horrible "asthma." This continued for six months until I went on an elimination diet. While I could discriminate no offending foods before the elimination diet, it quickly became apparent that processed commercial sweets evoked nasty episodes.
Avatar f tn Lived with a father who smoked, and he himself seemed to have the same problem. Coughing up phlegm, tons of mucus. My mother had to wash so many handkerchiefs. We lived on a farm back then, and now I live on a farm as well, and have a husband who also smokes. It seems after I finish eating I often have lots of clear mucus that needs to get out. I can feel like it all situated in my nasal cavity, plus it needs to leave my throat as well. It doesn't matter what I eat or drink.
Avatar m tn I have been to the doctor several times over coughing, taken bunches of medicine, when the medicine runs out I cough again. I have sinus drainage, allergies (for which I have had two years of shots), my nose isn't clogged and I do not have sinus headaches, occasional sinus pressure, nothing bad. The past several winters I get a "viral infection" and I cough, mostly at night, I get this a couple of times a year, late fall and mid spring.
Avatar f tn She told me she thinks the coughing happens cuz of potsnasal drip (or sth like that, i.e. mucus in throat which irritates the throat to cough). She gave me local antibiotics for my throat and it seemed to help. After 5 days, I was all good. Now it's more than 10 days from it and almost 6 weeks from when it originally started. Again, Im starting to cough again and every day when I wake up, my nose is fully blocked and throat full of mucus.
Avatar f tn I have had my stomache bloating out after eating for several weeks now, sometimes after eating a mouthful I fill full up and cannot eat as much as i use to therefore I have lost 10lb in weight over the last couple of weeks, my stomache is uncomftable, I am also having sweats and feeling very tired all the time. I am not sure if this is a completely different sympton to this but I have also been coughing up brown phlem for some months now.
Avatar f tn After every time I eat anything I begin coughing until I get the phlegm out of my throat. It is always clear, but it is quite thick. This has been going on for 4 to 5 years, but it didn't used to be so bad. It used to happen only after I ate spicy food or food that was really hot. Now it happens after everything that I eat. I do not seem to have any other symptoms. I do smoke about 1 pack every 2 weeks, so not that often, but i do.
Avatar f tn lots of fluids frequently (water, tea, icepops, oj etc), dayquil, nyquil, humidifier, hot steamy showers/baths, sleeping on a 45 deg wedge pillow, resting well, eating healthy, not eating 5 hrs before bed, allergy tests for food environmental & animal allergies all came up clear ps all my other symptoms i've been suffering for 1.
Avatar m tn About 3 weeks ago, I came down with what I thought was the flu - body aches, coughing up mucus and 103 fever. I went to the doctor and was diagnosed with bronchitis, given antibiotics and prednisone. 2 weeks later, I'm still coughing constantly, but it's dry - no mucus, can't sleep and found I've lost over 10 lbs. My appetite is down, but I have been eating.
Avatar n tn t go away. Every time after eating or drinking something, I start coughing and producing mucus, and my airways feel like they are closing in a bit. Intermittently through the day, I will feel this without eating or drinking, and a few times through the day produce mucus. It is typically colorless, but occasionally slightly yellow--sometimes with small strands of blood. This happens every day upon waking.
Avatar n tn My husband has developed a severe gagging/coughing reaction after eating certain foods. He has had several test; upper GI; gallbladder function; ultrasound; and been on several medications; Acifex, Pepsid, Nexium, Zegerid?, Prilosec. He has no pain in his chest or throat with these episodes. They occur within 5 minutes of eating and can last up to 30 minutes. After the gagging/coughing stops, he is extremely tired, to the point of having to take a nap. We are at a loss as to the cause.
