Common Questions and Answers about Concussion symptoms your child

concussion

Avatar m tn To cut to the chase, just because you or your child has a concussion does not mean you are going to die. There are always exceptions, but usually a mild concussion will resolve by itself with no long lasting effects.
Avatar n tn As you know, a "Grade 1" concussion is the mildest category. That being said,m there is no such thing as a "harmless concussion", and in the final analysis Lacross is a meaningless activity. Missing a season is not worth a lifetime of problems. I am somewhat concerned he did not have an MRI, and insofar as school authorities are mandated to pick-up-the-bill, this non-invasive test should have been provided.
Avatar n tn I would have him evaluated by a developmental specialist for starters. My husband and two boys all have ASD issues. Asperger's as well as other ASDs can have anger issues associated with them. You can also try giving him a special stuffed animal that he can squeeze when he is upset. That may take him mind off of banging his head and also help to calm him down.
Avatar f tn I diagnosed concussion because I had pretty much all the symptoms of one. And I didn't go to the hospital for two reasons 1) I didn't feel like trusting my driving skills after that 2) I did a typical test for "serious" head trama (watching what your eyes do, how long you can focus on things ext) so I knew it wasn't "serious" so I didn't think to go. I know thats bad but what can I say.
Avatar f tn re supposed to take it easy after a concussion and orgasm raises your BP and all. Most of my symptoms of the concussion have gone away, aside from double vision. Thoughts?
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !
Avatar m tn Obviously as you mentioned there are other factors such as anxiety, depression, lack of deep sleep, not eating enough which can amplify the physical symptoms. Also the fact that I already had post concussion symptoms regardless. Dont think I had a goose egg just some slight bruising and I felt like a bit of pain or a sore spot in the area I was hit for a few days.
Avatar m tn I also hit the back of my head and had a severe concussion and brain contusion (bruising of brain) 1 year 10 months ago and still suffering with 24/7 dizziness, stuffy head, ringing in ears etc., When it comes to Post concussion syndrome it is really a collections of many many symptoms and confusing. You are only 3 weeks away so it may be too early to call it and most people recover within few weeks or months. I am the unlucky one.
Avatar n tn There is no scientific data proving Chiari can or can't be caused by head trauma. Most dr's will tell you it's congenital. A concussion could worsen your symptoms - although I'm not sure if it could worsen the herniation size.. But that can happen anytime. It could be coincidental that all this is happening following a concussion. Your best bet is to see a Chiari specialist. I've seen- well read- alot of people suffer from "migraines" and then BAM!
Avatar f tn Though Asperger’s by it self will not prolong concussion, the diagnosis of concussion in Asperger’s is often overlooked and some other cause or the disease itself attributed to as a cause of symptoms post injury. Hence it is important to consult a neuro-psychiatrist. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar n tn , where they determined that she had not suffered a concussion, and she has had some follow-up visits to her pediatrician to address eye infections and an ear infection that arose in the few days after the fall. Now that the initial stress has passed, and we know that she didn't suffer a concussion or any more serious injury, I am starting to worry about whether there has been damage to her nose.
Avatar m tn I hit my head on the ice about 12 hours ago. ER said concussion. I have not had any of the symptoms the ER said I should return for but where the lump was there is now a soft spot. Should I return?
Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar n tn m a little nervous about this and just wanted to know the general odds or percentages when you have a concussion and your smell/taste and hearing come back. Thank you.
Avatar f tn Also as a mother its so frustrating when your child has health issues (been thru this as well just not with chiari) Trust your gut and keep seeking answers until you feel comfortable. Your family is in my prayers. Hugs!
Avatar n tn However, sometimes symptoms persist for months or, rarely, years. Your friend should consult a neurologist and undergo a MRI to see the effects of head injury. There could be inflammation of the brain tissue causing headache and nausea.Common symptoms of mild brain injury may include headache and the sensation of spinning or light-headedness. Some people also may have mild confusion, nausea, and, more commonly in children, vomiting. Refer http://www.merck.com/mmhe/sec06/ch087/ch087a.
Avatar f tn A concussion can last for weeks or maybe years after the head injury. The symptoms too vary from person to person. Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere.
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
Avatar n tn If he has just done this then I would tell you take him to the ER to make sure he is okay .as he is having some symptoms of possible concussion do not delay ...good luck let us know how he is doing .
Avatar n tn Hello, Thank you for your question. After concussion or impact such kind of symptoms like loss of smell or taste and other symptoms may be common due to extent of damaged part of brain and may remain symptomatic or progress in future. Although any sure success cure can not be assured in such cases, but symptomatic relief or it may decrease with period of time, physiotherapy, avoiding any triggering factors and life style modification help you in certain extent.
