concussion

Avatar m tn A concussion can last for weeks after the head injury. The symptoms too vary from person to person. Headache, confusion, memory loss, dizziness, nausea vomiting, slurred speech and fatigue are common. Delayed symptoms include depression, irritability, sleep disturbances, seizures, loss of smell etc. A doctor generally looks for focal neurological or generalized neurological symptoms that would show there is a pressure on brain somewhere.
Avatar f tn My dr says I need to treat myself as if I have a concussion for at least a year, or while symptoms last. I get headaches, dizziness, sometimes very mild forgetfulness. I'm a nurse so you would think I wouldn't be so worried, but I've never personally been the one healing. My doctors don't seem concerned much. I guess I'm just worried myself. They have told me it was a miracle I wasn't in a coma because my head was so bad when my scans were reviewed when I came in.
Avatar n tn If the head injury is serious there can be a tinkling sensation due to a head and neck injury...symptoms of a concussion can be subtle and may not be immediately apparent. Symptoms and that includes a headache can last for days, weeks or even longer. You may want to see a doctor depending on the severity of a blow to the head that can cause a blood clot.
Avatar n tn Hi, probably these are concussion symptoms. “The brain is surrounded by cerebrospinal fluid, one of the functions of which is to protect it from light trauma, but more severe impacts or the forces associated with rapid acceleration and deceleration may not be absorbed by this cushion.
Avatar f tn m sorry to hear what you have been through for the last few months. Treatment for post concussion is focused on the individual symptoms present since the severity and extent are unique to each person. While symptoms usually resolve after a several months, medications and other adjunctive therapies may also help. Prescription medications may help with headaches and associated symptoms.
Avatar f tn It is abundantly clear that in some cases concussions may result in seizures. That is not a "theory". It is a medical fact. It doesn't require "discussion". But not all concussions result in a seizure. There can be varying degrees of damage depending on the severity off the blow, where the impact takes place, and from resultant swelling, and if there is a delay in seeking medical attention. A "concussion" is not a "concussion".
1914334 tn?1322285939 A concussion can range from mild to critical in terms of severity. Concussion can result in a temporary loss of consciousness or coma, loss of memory, or symptoms may not appear for some time after the initial trauma. Even a mild concussion can result in subtle brain damage. I am sure that your doctor has made exhaustive analysis to diagnose the impact and your current situation.
Avatar f tn I am curious to learn more about post concussion syndrome. In the past 4-5 years I have had 4 or 5 "mild" concussions and am starting to get worried. I received all of these from sports and have since pulled myself from such dangerous situations but I fear I am still dealing with the after effects of my reckless youth. After my last concussion I had extremely bad vertigo, memory loss, and headaches.
Avatar n tn While visual symptoms are usually associated with migraine aura, it is best that he checks with his doctor especially if the symptoms increases in severity for further evaluation. Both preventive and abortive prescription medications may also help. Take care and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I diagnosed concussion because I had pretty much all the symptoms of one. And I didn't go to the hospital for two reasons 1) I didn't feel like trusting my driving skills after that 2) I did a typical test for "serious" head trama (watching what your eyes do, how long you can focus on things ext) so I knew it wasn't "serious" so I didn't think to go. I know thats bad but what can I say.
Avatar m tn Obviously as you mentioned there are other factors such as anxiety, depression, lack of deep sleep, not eating enough which can amplify the physical symptoms. Also the fact that I already had post concussion symptoms regardless. Dont think I had a goose egg just some slight bruising and I felt like a bit of pain or a sore spot in the area I was hit for a few days.
Avatar f tn m concerned if that would be too stressful for the body but then again, would it help kill the virus as well as the symptoms. I so want to start treatment as my symptoms are so debilitating every day and I'm having a hard time waiting for my turn to get treated. I really would like to know is other people out there are suffering from their symptoms as much as I am?
Avatar m tn Thanks Vance, Severity means on a scale of 1 - no sign to 10 - High. If they appear as an expert advice how you will rate. Not particular to 1 symptom I am asking in general From internet what I learnt almost 75% of peoples will get symptoms. As far I know if symptoms do occur it wont be 1 or 2 symptoms. It will be a combination of multiple symptoms . Am I correct ?
Avatar n tn Your symptoms could be due to migraine or PCS ( post concussion syndrome ) because of the concussion that you had years ago. Please go for an MRI brain to know the exact cause and consult a neurologist for treatment as a delay could be dangerous. There are chances of getting a stroke. Hope this helps you. Take care and regards !

Avatar f tn Hi guys! I have had a variety of problems with my vision over the last month. Decreased vision(mainly at night or in dimmer rooms), sensitivity to really bright lights and periodic blurriness. I also woke up one morning with an ocular migraine aura( went awat after 10 mins). Avatar f tn Loss of consciousness isn’t required for a diagnosis of concussion or post concussion syndrome. Post concussion syndrome occurs within first 7 to 10 days and until 3 months. Symptoms are variable including dizziness, fatigue, irritability, anxiety, insomnia, loss of concentration and memory, light and noise sensitivity, headache varying from a tension type to cluster headaches. You need to consult a neurologist immediately.
Avatar n tn Most people recover completely, particularly if postconcussion syndrome symptoms do not develop. Postconcussion syndrome symptoms are common during the week after brain injury. They often resolve during the second week. However, sometimes symptoms persist for months or, rarely, years. Your friend should consult a neurologist and undergo a MRI to see the effects of head injury. There could be inflammation of the brain tissue causing headache and nausea.
Avatar f tn Yesterday I suffered mild blow to the head. I have hit my head many times before, much harder than yesterday and yet, I've never experienced any symptoms that might be indicative of concussion. Yesterday, however, I felt a bit dizzy for a few minutes immediately after having been hit. Also, 15 minutes following the blow, I started to feel a bit nauseated.
Avatar f tn I would rather have my MRI read in Cleveland. I wonder how long a person can have concussion symptoms. If the symptoms should have disappeared by now, I have to wonder if it is the Chiari that is worse bc of the hard hit on the head.
Avatar f tn t due to the concussion but something found because of the concussion causing you to get diagnostic testing done. But I would get a 2d opinion unless the near-surgeon and the testing saw something urgent. A lot can be wrong without symptoms.
Avatar n tn symptoms of a concussion can last days, weeks or longer....you never know. and these symptoms you are experiencing now could go away and you could end up with diff symptoms some time after. Im not a doctor but am speaking through experience. what meds did they prescribe you?
Avatar f tn Anyone please!!
Avatar f tn Also I am incredibly unbalanced and all of these symptoms worsened after my last concussion which happened to be my fifth. From this one I had a report of severe concussion with mild amnesia, which four months later has not gone away. I also exhibit no abnormalities in my eyes. Sorry I forgot to include this before.
Avatar m tn Usually people recover from a concussion without any residual effects. Some people may manifest the symptoms longer and the condition is termed as post concussion syndrome. Repeated concussions are known to double the risk. After a concussion, the levels of brain chemicals are altered. It usually takes about a week for these levels to stabilize again. However, the time it takes to recover from a concussion is variable, so avoid all strenuous activity till complete recovery.
Avatar f tn Ok so about 7-8 months ago I suffered a concussion and was off work for quite a time I am getting back to it now. My question is can suffering a concussion cause depression and suicidal thoughts as well as self harm? Basically when I was a teenager I was suicidal and a cutter and haven't done anything like that since, until I got the concussion and a few months into the treatment etc I started cutting again and feeling suicidal.
