cold remedies safe during pregnancy

Just wondering what your doctors or midwives have deemed as "safe" cold medications to take during pregnancy. My midwife gave me a list of meds that does include Tylenol, Tylenol Sinus and Tylenol PM, but what I'd like to take is Tylenol Cold/Congestion. (Well, I'd rather not take anything but this miserable head cold is keeping me up all night... if I lie down, my sinuses immediately plug up...) I'm doing all the natural remedies and they are working ok.

What do you ladies do that is safe to get rid of a headache during Pregnancy?

Tylenol and cough drops are fine. So is Vick's. Natural remedies are a cool mist humidifier, warm salt water gargle, hot tea with honey and lemon, steam from the hot shower, saline nasal spray. Feel better soon!

Thanks Ladies! Unfortunately I think I'm gonna have to cave in and go to the dr because it has turned into a horrible chest cold.

My advice to ask a pharmacist (or doctor) what is safe to take. During my last pregnancy, I got 3 really bad colds and the farther I got into my pregnancy (30 weeks +) I had more options of what was "safe" to take....and I asked a pharmacist. It depends on the symptoms, but I was told that saline sprays and throat lozenges are safe....and then, when I was farther along, I was able to take over the counter cold remedies (ie. Tylenol Cold/Sinus).

My OB has also assured me that they are absolutely find to use during pregnancy. Good luck.

s not really anything you can take. Paracetamol is the only safe thing to take during pregnancy. If you want to get rid of any congestion etc then you would need to try more 'natural' remedies such as menthal crystals etc. These you dissolve in boiling water in sit with the bowl and a towel over your head. You could also try vapour rubs and some other things to help ease congestion.

Tums are really safe for heartburn during your pregnancy, I usually take them dont need them alot but there the safe ones for pregnancy since other brands might contain penicillin.

Gargle with warm salt water also. Read the label, see if it tells you to consult a doctor if pregnant. I used halls with my sore throat. Also sleep with a cold air humidifier, works wonders my doctor had me do that for 3 weeks with my sinus infection.

sorry vicks rub...some doctors will give you a list of "pregnancy safe cough and cold medicine" but I always refused to take it so I'm not familiar with the safe ones.

Thanks! Also if it doesn't get better with the over the counter stuff, talk to your doctor cause there are antibiotics you can take like the Z-pack. I never get sick except for when I'm pregnant apparently! Lol this is my third cold during this pregnancy, but this one is mild compared to the other two I had earlier in the pregnancy.

I also used olive leaf nasal spray, which is safe during pregnancy. Probably have to order it on-line or from a health food store. Please make sure the teas you are drinking are safe during pregnancy too.

Within 5 to 10 minutes I suddenly realised I could swallow without pain. Tylenol and Advil are safe during pregnancy as well as a few anihistamines. Try checking with your Dr. or even your pharmasist. They have this huge book behind the counter to tell them what is safe and what isn't. If you have a stuffy head though you can't take a decongestant. A cool mist vaporizer and some Vicks vapor rub is about all you can use.

Tylenol is safe to take during pregnancy. Even though I try to avoid meds until it's an absolute must.. I usually put a cold rag over my forehead and eyes and lay in a really dark room. Also stay hydrated is a huge must.

Having hemmeroids isn't a serious issue (at least not usually), it's just uncomfortable. Having them won't have any impact on the birth at all. If you have them, talk to your Dr. about relief option. I believe most over the counter remedies are safe during pregnancy, but I don't know that for absolute certainty. Your Dr. can recommend something safe for you to use.

My cough seems to be getting worse :/ about 7 wks anybody know some natural remedies? Also for indegestion tums didn't work so most likely have to get a prescription from my OBGYN. Anybody else having all these health probs during their first trimester???

You could always go to a health food store and they will be able to direct you as to what is safe during pregnancy and give you natural remedies as well. Oh, and you will not hurt the baby by coughing. He/she is tucked away in a very safe place. =) Hope you feel better soon!!!
