Hi there, I am tapering down from methadone, was at 130mgs two years ago, and am currently at 41mgs, now tapering 2mgs/ week. I know this is a low and slow taper but still I am not feeling so great. I keep getting hot flashes, nausea and going hot and cold, it's uncomfortable. My methadone doctor suggested clonidine for these symptoms, I know some of you have tried it and I was wondering if it helps much, and is it worth even taking? Thanks for your responses...

anyone know how long the clonidine patch takes to start working, I started using it last night for opiate withdrawls. 6 yrs. of use and it is time to end this vicious cycle; i was taking 60 mg. methadone for a back problem a day. today is day 2.
Many people stop breathing at night and die with only a few drinks and taking methadone. I cannot tell you how dangerous methadone truly is and how hard it is to come off of. I am going to switch to methadone for as short as possible time ánd the plan is to use clonidine when I stop taking methadone.
Can I use this in combimation with seroquel?

As far as I know, I should take it for a week with a man of 1,3 per day and after a week build it off in 3 days.
I am using half a gram per day. How much methadone should I take.The plan is to lowwer the dosis with 5 mg. Per day.
My mom has been taking methadone for colitis for 23 years .Maine has a new legislative law to taper methadone users ... Moms been taking 320 10mg pills a month ..went from 120mg a day yo 90 mg a day and now 40mg a day and then wants to cut her off completely after this month .. She's not a h user she has a chronic disease/illness ... Its not right to make her go through this crap again and guinea pig her again like that did for 20 yrs straight ....
Yes, I was 4 days into methadone withdrawal. It has been 6 days since I have taken the clonidine .01 mg. My heart still feels like it's beating much harder than before I took it. I have read that clonidine causes a rebound effect in blood pressure when stopped abruptly. I did not know that stopping after taking it once could cause the rebound effect.
No, I was not prescribed the medication, I obtained it through another source.
That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.
Methadone is not recommended to be mixed with any benzo's while on the methadone as they are both central nervous system depressents...they are speaking of using benzos like xanax after you have stopped the methadone and are in WDs....I have never taken methadone but my son worked at a clinic and if the person tested positive for benzos they could not have their dose and it was against the rules...You should talk to your doctor about any medications u decide to use...
Yes Clonidine does help some. Also check out the Thomas Recipe for vitamins and supplements that will help too. And Larrys Recipe too.
But don't take the xanax etc as that will just cause more problems.

I know its a little long winded but please take the time to read. I really could use some help!
After a severe wreck breaking my back I was sent to a pain management doctor in 2006. Started out with no education with opiates and other meds. Started out taking them as prescribed and them moving on the other ways for the quicker high I realized I was a full blown addict. The Dr was raising/changing my meds every several months.
gave me a scipt for clonidine and i have not been hearing good things about it .. he said it would help the subs work better. i told him i already have low blood pressure and he still gave it to me and didn,t even check my blood pressur ....
I have recently quickly transitioned from methadone to suboxone. while on methadone for 10 years I was taking a quite high dose of clonidine for excessive sweating. The doctor told me to continue on the clonidine and we would taper down on that once I was on a stable dose of suboxone. He said there are no harmful interactions between the two. But whenever I take the clonidine it feels like it is kicking me into withdrawal again. severe agitation anxiety racing heart dizziness and double vision.
Tues will take lase clonidine pill then that eve switch to clonidine patch. Next day stop all methadone. Dr said she will call me everyday will increase clonidine patch continue to use Valium for anxiety and tramadol if needed. I am pretty nervous cause I am doing this alone at home what do you think?
t answer sorry, I never had a problem with methadone. But 2 is very low compared to 200mg. Good on you for lowering your dose to 2. You may still have withdrawal but how extreme or not all depends on your body. Just get Clonidine and valium and take them together only when you absolutely have to, and don't use the meds any longer than 10-14 days. And only use when you do decide to withdrawal. Go lower if possible with your methadone before stopping. People say the lower the less withdrawal.
I still take my clonidine and xanax xr along with the melatonin. I mainly take clonidine for my blood pressure it just so happened that it was also used to help with withdrawls. Theres not to many people out there who could just skip the methadone or sub and figure clonidine in itself is going to get them over the addiction. I could be wrong, and I know they help w/d but it's not at all what they were designed for.
