Avatar n tn 10 (which is annoying for a girl) Also keep away from red dyes in food, it makes ADD/ADHD positive kids twice as hyperactive. Also the best thing for me was patience when people got fustrated at me, I got fustrated at myself (which results in screaming and crying). Break down study and homework sessions with snack breaks but keep him at the table other wise you'll loose him, forcing ADD Postivie Children to sit threw a 2 - 3 hour homework workload just won't work.
Avatar f tn mutlivitamins and still prozac which is cut down from 10mg to 5mg to wean him off, he was on concerta 36mg for adhd, clonidine .1mg to help with sleep and prozac10mg to combat severe side effects, then after starting prozac. he was chewing on the inside of his lower lip so bad, 2 weeks later and he now has two scars..
Avatar m tn I think the world would disagree with you. The only people claiming it is not addictive are those prescribing it for children with ADD/ADHD. There are safer ways to treat this ailment.

Avatar f tn Hi, I'm currently a sixteen year old senior, and i was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago. I've tried focalin, concerta, ridalin, ect. Finally a year ago I was switched to vyvanse. At first they started me on 30mg, then to 40mg, then 50mg. While on 50mg, i was happily able to control my adhd symptoms, however I dealt with insomnia, shortness of breath, involuntary ticks, and I began to pick my skin uncontrollably. After that, I was unable to handle the stress of the medication.
Avatar f tn He seemed to be doing ok with just the Clonidine and Risperidal, but just ok. He does have some ADHD tendencies where he will get super hyper to the point that he just can't hold still and I think that is why they prescribed the Adderral. Being on the Adderral he brought home the best report card I have ever seen from him, so it obviously helped at school, but then the extra anger started.
Avatar n tn thanks for your reply. not really mood issues, just the constant argumentative issues with i think odd. do you think one would be better med than the other? Only other issue is weight gain. Going to the doctor today.

We have tried the Tenex smallest dose possiblr 1/4 pill in am. And he just could not function.

The FDA has not approved most antipsychotics for the treatment of Bipolar Disorder in children. Find out which meds have been approved for the treatment of specific disorders, and get a second opinion. Also, please be advised that there is only clinical support for the diagnosis of early onset Bipolar Disorder.
Avatar n tn My son has ADHD and has never been able to sleep without help. The doctor gave him Clonidine to help him sleep. I don't recommend it. He ended up having a seizure because the medication lowers your blood pressure. We have found that a low dose of Melatonin (3-5 mg) works like magic. Melatonin is something that your body naturally produces. People with ADHD don't have enough of it for some reason.
672943 tn?1226589081 m on Clonidine and Lyrica to help with the come down, and apparently Clonidine is now being treated for Neuropathic pain + ADHD symptoms; Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks, all.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately, hypnosis will not work with kids who have ADHD. Sure would be an easy fix though if it did. Actually stealing food (like lying) can be pretty common for a kid with ADHD. Its because when they are on the meds they are not hungry and when they come off the meds, they are starving. Thus, they tend to eat at late hours. If that is the case, it certainly is not something that he should be punished for.
Avatar n tn has prescribed him Celexa for the OCD/Anxiety disorder. I have read that this medication is not recommended in children. Is it safe for him to take this medication? Or is there anywhere I can look for information on the use of this medication in children?
Avatar f tn Clonidine is increasingly used in conjunction with stimulants to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), for which it is administered in late afternoon or evening for sleep." Yet, a stimulant med is not being used?
Avatar f tn Tricyclics are also used to control impulses and treat bed-wetting, which could have accounted for many of the toddler prescriptions. But in children so young, says Hyman, "I don't see a justification for using them." More information about drug safety and efficacy in preschoolers could be a few years away. Researchers are hoping to launch a nationwide trial of Ritalin in 3- to 5-year-olds as early as this summer.
1335947 tn?1275685447 Its for high blood pressure, they have also used it for insomnia, and adhd in children, dosing for wd's are usually .4mgs .. I have tried it.. It will help with the chills, watery eyes, and runny nose.. It wont help with the cramps!!! Nor the lower back pain!!! It also gives you dry mouth. I could fall asleep for a lil bit, but would wake back up very uncomfortable!! I don't know how it works for others though. Read up on it!! When they gave it to me, I googled it!!!
Avatar f tn Recently my 3 yr old has been going to a psychiatrist and they gave him clonidine for ADHD, he's on the smallest possible dose! It seems to help slow him down but he's still downright mean!!! He doesnt think twice about pulling hair, hitting, pinching, and even biting. Adults and other children. Most of the time he does it when he thinks he is being restrained or when another child is too close, giving him a look or trying to take something away from him. He is such a bully!!
Avatar m tn I am almost thinking my main doctor is using it for the ween down from the meds and in place of a ADHD med till the phych. can get me on something different. My main doctor is trying to work with my phych. but has trouble getting a hold of him. And I can not spell to save my life lol so bare with me ...
Avatar f tn The problem with really intelligent kids is that they problem solve so fast. And the problem with 4 year olds is that they don't have alot of self control. Put it together and ya - you've got problems. Throw the possibility of ADHD into the mix and everything gets a lot worse. I really don't know if he has ADHD. How long ago did the doctors see him and what kind of a doctor saw him?
Avatar f tn It is not uncommon for children to be misdiagnosed with ADHD when; in fact, they are suffering from extreme anxiety. I might suggest you google the phrase "separation anxiety and the older child" or "behaviors of anxiety is children" or similar words/phrases. Often when a child has a negative response to ADHD medication, it is because ADHD is not the cause (and anxiety so mimics this disorder). Anyway - no expert here - but just wondering ....
Avatar m tn Are you taking it to control your blood pressure or for ADHD or for withdrawal from opiates? Is it prescribed or self-medicated? If you give us some more information we can help you through this.
7087196 tn?1389306119 The majority of mental health disorders follow in families, they are hereditary. I was asking for help in regards to myself. We have talked to him about his behaviors and what could happen to him if he does not try to change them. I know he will not be able to change all of his behaviors that is just how Bi-polar is. 656243 tn?1231288052 When I was working as an ER nurse I frequently observed it being used for opiate withdrawal, and for sleep in children with ADHD. It seems to be a one man band.
