clonidine hypertension

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

I take clonidine .2 three times a day and have been for over a year for blood pressure and intially to help with withdrawls as I tapered my dose of methadone down from 100-120mgs a day to 30mg. I still have to take it do to my hypertension, so first thing I would check is his blood pressure, just to make sure that it isnt high. After about 1month of taking clonidine there is hardly any sedating feeling as long as you take it as prescribed, but it can be abused just like any medication.

Clonidine is a med also used for hypertension so it would be okay to take the Valium; the two don't compete.Due to the drowsy effect of both, don't take them at the same time.

Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!

I have sporadic periods of hypertension where my bp will spike well over 160/110. They can last for days, or just an hour, but it is causing me a lot of problems because they can occur at anytime. When the bp spikes happen at night, I wake up shaking. I cannot take beta blockers because they make my bp go even higher. I am taking clonidine when I have these spikes.

Norvasc 10 mg 1 x day was prescribed to take instead of Clonidine .1mg 2 x day. However, the Norvasc is not working after 12 hrs. My B/P is 150/113 12 hrs after taking the norvasc. Can I take a clonidine .1 mg along with the norvasc?

That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.

I have been told that I have Labile Hypertension because my blood pressure reacts to any movement at all and sometimes for no reason at all, but when I looked it up online the only thing I could find about Labile Hypertension was about emotional response.

Using too much can drop a persons blood pressure super low and cause fainting. Stopping clonidine can cause rebound hypertension- making the BP spike to super high levels. IT can be a great med, but please have your friend follow the docs orders. Wish I had a better answer for you.

It does have other uses for helping with opiate withdrawals, I also have hypertension and use clonidine after I had tried other meds that didnt help my BP. I was previously on clonidine about 3yrs ago for over a year and didnt have any side effects when I switched over to lisinopril, but after it and others didnt work I was back on clonidine.

Has anyone Sucessfully gotten off of Clonidine? If so - How did you do it? What were the Withdrals Symptoms? And How Long did it take? I am already on the DASH Diet - If I add an excercise regimine - Could I successfully be able to withaw from the Clonidine? I have bad Kidney Disease from a drug one doctor gave me that damaged my Kidneys - so my Blood Pressure has been really high. That's when another doctor put me on Clonidine.

Hey all, new member long time reader... I know its a little long winded but please take the time to read. I really could use some help! After a severe wreck breaking my back I was sent to a pain management doctor in 2006. Started out with no education with opiates and other meds. Started out taking them as prescribed and them moving on the other ways for the quicker high I realized I was a full blown addict. The Dr was raising/changing my meds every several months.

if you are trying to taper off prescirbed opiates, can you still take clonidine at the same time?

Could be the Clonidine. Sounds like you were taking hefty amounts? How is your BP? Discontinuing Clonidine can cause a rebound hypertension. Be sure your doc is aware you were on it, and how much you were taking.

My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.

s but only a caring doctor will give it, most would rather see you suffer....i took .1 mg of clonidine 3 times daily...worked tremendously well...if taking clonidine will help get you off your d.o.c.,...take it as your doctor has prescribed it...regardless of what you think MIGHT happen...it does help more than i can describe, i think it is a miracle drug for wd's. i took it for 10 days, then tapered for 3, it is not addictive, but you have to taper to avoid rebound high BP...

ER sent me home told me to take a norvasc when I got home then to start taking it in the AM. Next morning I felt awful so my GP told me stop norvasc and started me on clonidine.1mg but take only if bp is above 140. I was fine all week and then today mid morning another spike... 170/100 I waited about half an hour for it to come down on it's own and then took half a clonidine.

Clonidine can cause some rebound hypertension but I doubt it's deadly unless there's heart problems already. But, that's why we always say to do this under a doctor's care. From your post, it seems like your husband is a classic addict. 300mg's a day is a pretty heavy habit as well. You should really consider getting him either into an outpatient or inpatient rehab facility. It's pretty clear that after his years of trying that the same old way isn't working.

I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?

anyone had experience taking clonidine for sleep issues? i have high blood pressure (and clonidine is a blood pressure med), but my doctor is mainly prescribing it for me as a SLEEP AID to try to keep me off of the benzos for sleep purposes (which have always worked so well for me!)....i'm curious about two things though.....one, how much has anyone taken strictly for sleep purposes? and two, have you had ANY problems stopping it if you want/need to?

Was given ( 4) 7 day Clonidine 0.2mg patches for Norco W/D . I am now on jump day #7 , been on the patch 10 days feeling better day by day very mild W/D now , But think the patch is keeping me tired . Will i have a problem if i remove the patch now .

For some reason the other meds I tried for my hypertension never really worked, but the clonidine did. I take .2mg/3times daily for my BP right now, I was taking the .1mg for about a year before getting bumped up. Usually people are prescribed the .1mgs to be taken 2-3times daily, now with that said you should call the prescibing doctor to find out his/her instructions.

I not only have 104 fever with a bad dry cough, runny nose and sore throat but I am also getting major hypertension (waking up every 30 minutes with big twitches). Should I take the clonidine? (I filled the script) My doctor wanted to make sure my blood pressure didn't drop too much before I started taking it, should I do that first? Should I worry about addiction to clonidine? He was put under sedation for 2 weeks, they have now taken off the sedation but it appears that he is dependant on clonidine. So they gave him 4 mg an hour again after an episode of great frustration for him and a heart rate of 201 beats a min. But they reduced it to 2mg then 1 then a 1/2 then nothing in the space of 12 hours and a few hours later he was sedated again after a repeat episode. I'm not an expert by any means but this seemed a really quick withdrawal to me?

After six years of treatment for hypertension I have discovered it was caused by medications and their interactions. Discontinuing these and changing nothing else my blood pressure is lower than 115/75. Furthermore the blood pressure elevating effects of these medications has been reported many times in medical journals. I was prescribed effexor which raises blood pressure by itself. My doctors didn't tell me this.
