clonidine for hypertension

WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.

My 79 year old mother, who lives in another state, is on medication for hypertension. She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.

I take clonidine .2 three times a day and have been for over a year for blood pressure and intially to help with withdrawls as I tapered my dose of methadone down from 100-120mgs a day to 30mg. I still have to take it do to my hypertension, so first thing I would check is his blood pressure, just to make sure that it isnt high. After about 1month of taking clonidine there is hardly any sedating feeling as long as you take it as prescribed, but it can be abused just like any medication.

Has anyone Sucessfully gotten off of Clonidine? If so - How did you do it? What were the Withdrals Symptoms? And How Long did it take? I am already on the DASH Diet - If I add an excercise regimine - Could I successfully be able to withaw from the Clonidine? I have bad Kidney Disease from a drug one doctor gave me that damaged my Kidneys - so my Blood Pressure has been really high. That's when another doctor put me on Clonidine.

Clonidine is a med also used for hypertension so it would be okay to take the Valium; the two don't compete.Due to the drowsy effect of both, don't take them at the same time.

Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!

I have sporadic periods of hypertension where my bp will spike well over 160/110. They can last for days, or just an hour, but it is causing me a lot of problems because they can occur at anytime. When the bp spikes happen at night, I wake up shaking. I cannot take beta blockers because they make my bp go even higher. I am taking clonidine when I have these spikes.

s ok to take the two together because I am an RN and know that Clonidine is commonly prescribed as an as needed medication for breakthrough hypertension. So I would make a call to your doctor before making changes.

That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.

s not because of anxiety a pheochromocytoma seems ruled out because your BP dropped with the clonidine, but adrenalin seems possibly ruled in, for the same reason btw, giving gender, height, weight, age, etc can be helpful for anyone posing a question. also any drugs being taken, and any medical conditions such as diabetes etc so what can provoke adrenalin besides emotions/anxiety? I don't know, but how's your blood glucose? do you ever have reactive or fasting hypoglycemia?

1mg on clonidine this morning. It is not hleping. For those who have used clondine for help with wd, what was your dosing amount? Is .1mg a low amount? Should that be helping her at this point? Does anyone know the usually dosing amounts to help for severe wd or what the max allowable for clonidine? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

ok I have high blood pressure, anemia, and i have these really bad anxiety attacks and i have had these problems since i was six years old and when i was about 14 my doctor perscribed me clonidine and now if i dont take this pill i cant sleep at night i get sick and i throw up until i have this pill my doctor wants me to stop taking it and if i do it just make me so sick and i would never sleep what am i going to do.

are you taking it while you detox? did a doctor prescribe the clonidine?

Hey all, new member long time reader... I know its a little long winded but please take the time to read. I really could use some help! After a severe wreck breaking my back I was sent to a pain management doctor in 2006. Started out with no education with opiates and other meds. Started out taking them as prescribed and them moving on the other ways for the quicker high I realized I was a full blown addict. The Dr was raising/changing my meds every several months.

Do they know about your taper? Clonidine is commonly prescribed for opiate detox. Let me know if you need anything....

I was suppose to taper off of it but ran out cause I took too many. I was taking about 3 of the 0.3mgs three times a day.

I have been taking percocet for 5 years now for RSD. started at 5/325 3x a day, and 5 years later am taking 6-8 10/325. I have been tapering fast, like 2 5/325 a day, and feel poopy, to put it kindly, but making myself function as best I can. My hubby is very caring and understanding about it. I know these pills help me with my pain, but I in the last month caught myself taking 8 a day instead of the prescribed 6 a day. so lo and behold, I am almost out with almost a week to go.

Clonidine worked great for me. Doc gave me .1mgs about 3 weeks worth. taken twice a day. No side effects for me being that I am 6'3" 225lbs. It takes alittle more for us Big Boys.

Hi, I believe you gave me some advice about suboxone this morning(thanks for that) and my husband is currently on clonidine for his blood pressure. I am on blood pressure medicine also (but unfortunately its not clonidine cuz I really like the way that made me feel) so I do know a bit about hypertension. The comment about blood pressure and metabolism being related is completely false. Everyone knows the more you exercise, eat healthy etc.- you lower your blood pressure.

Hello, My name is Pat and I was recently diagnosed with High BP which has me a bit confused. I had 4 high reading at 3 times but the rest of the time it stayed within the 120s low 130s. The issue is that I'll go along fine and then wham my blood pressure will spike out of nowhere to 170/102 so my dr decided to start me on meds. I started taking norvasc 2.5 mgs at night because my BP is really high when I wake up.

Clonidine can cause some rebound hypertension but I doubt it's deadly unless there's heart problems already. But, that's why we always say to do this under a doctor's care. From your post, it seems like your husband is a classic addict. 300mg's a day is a pretty heavy habit as well. You should really consider getting him either into an outpatient or inpatient rehab facility. It's pretty clear that after his years of trying that the same old way isn't working.

I just wanted to say that my psychiatrist just prescribed clonidine for anxiety. I am on Klonopin also. I couldn't find much info on using clonidine for anxiety, but at least now I know it's been prescribed for other people with anxiety too. I do NOT have high blood pressure.

i did not use clonidine but i did use a benzo for detox/valium...course u know to be careful with the ativan..take small pieces if u can during the day to help the anxiety,...no rule u have to take the whole pill as they are not time released....clonidine will also make u sleep///sluggish possibly so play it by ear on how u feel..check ur blood pressure first as it lowers blood pressure and basically slows the metablism down...

anyone had experience taking clonidine for sleep issues? i have high blood pressure (and clonidine is a blood pressure med), but my doctor is mainly prescribing it for me as a SLEEP AID to try to keep me off of the benzos for sleep purposes (which have always worked so well for me!)....i'm curious about two things though.....one, how much has anyone taken strictly for sleep purposes? and two, have you had ANY problems stopping it if you want/need to?

Was given ( 4) 7 day Clonidine 0.2mg patches for Norco W/D . I am now on jump day #7 , been on the patch 10 days feeling better day by day very mild W/D now , But think the patch is keeping me tired . Will i have a problem if i remove the patch now .

Clonidine is a must for opiate WD's. At least it was for me. I'm 18 days sober today becauase of it.

For some reason the other meds I tried for my hypertension never really worked, but the clonidine did. I take .2mg/3times daily for my BP right now, I was taking the .1mg for about a year before getting bumped up. Usually people are prescribed the .1mgs to be taken 2-3times daily, now with that said you should call the prescibing doctor to find out his/her instructions.

I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?
