880900 tn?1467270141 WIkipedia says clonidine is good for reducing sweats and general "unease", but the patient must withdraw carefully from it too, in order to avoid rebound hypertension. Has anyone had experience with this? Did you experience the rebound hypertension after using clonidine? I'm considering asking my doctor for this drug because I'm still experiencing w/d symptoms after 2 weeks w/d. I've not slept for four days, too. Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Clonidine is a med also used for hypertension so it would be okay to take the Valium; the two don't compete.Due to the drowsy effect of both, don't take them at the same time.
589824 tn?1238796813 I take clonidine .2 three times a day and have been for over a year for blood pressure and intially to help with withdrawls as I tapered my dose of methadone down from 100-120mgs a day to 30mg. I still have to take it do to my hypertension, so first thing I would check is his blood pressure, just to make sure that it isnt high. After about 1month of taking clonidine there is hardly any sedating feeling as long as you take it as prescribed, but it can be abused just like any medication.
Avatar n tn As Lulu747 I also used clonidine while tapering off opiates and just wanted off and went cold turkey over a year ago. (morphine sulfate and fentanyl patch). The clonidine did help with my w/d symptoms as well.
Avatar f tn Hi, Im already taking Norvasc 5 Mg and Lisinopril 12.5 Mg for my Hypertension. My Dr. wants to bring in another Blood Pressure pill ( clonidine) If i spelled that right. Do any of you all take this combo?? Just wondering if all of these made your blood pressure drop too low? Thanks for input!
Avatar f tn I was given beta blockers on two different occasions earlier this year and I landed in the ER both times with my bp extremely high. The second time I had a prescription of clonidine and even that couldn't get it down, so I went to the ER. I have heard that some people can't take beta blockers, and I guess I am one of them. Besides, I have periods of time when my blood pressure is normal, so taking a blood pressure medicine daily makes it go too low.
Avatar f tn Yes, but I would advise you get the doctors ok before doing this. It's always good to make your doctor aware of what's going on with you and your meds before you make any changes, as heart medications are a dangerous thing to play with. I only say it's ok to take the two together because I am an RN and know that Clonidine is commonly prescribed as an as needed medication for breakthrough hypertension. So I would make a call to your doctor before making changes.
Avatar m tn I have present LVH last measured 6 years ago at 15mm and hypertension present currently on beta blocker, losartan and clonidine. I have been getting arrhythmias recently that feel like ectopic beats but I’m worried they could be ventricular arrhythmias which could be more serious. I workout 3-4 days a week and recently saw my doctor which wants me to do a holster monitor and echo in two weeks (after it clears my insurance). Anyone had similar issues?
Avatar f tn That is a dangerous mix. Did the doctor prescribe the Clonidine? If not, please speak with him/her before even attempting this. No doctor worth their weight would suggest that combination.
Avatar f tn s office), It has gone as high as 240/160 but when I took a clonidine it plummeted to 90/46 and I went from tachycardia at 130 BPM to 49 BPM, leaving me feeling like I was going to pass out.
Avatar n tn It does have other uses for helping with opiate withdrawals, I also have hypertension and use clonidine after I had tried other meds that didnt help my BP. I was previously on clonidine about 3yrs ago for over a year and didnt have any side effects when I switched over to lisinopril, but after it and others didnt work I was back on clonidine.
Avatar n tn Has anyone Sucessfully gotten off of Clonidine? If so - How did you do it? What were the Withdrals Symptoms? And How Long did it take? I am already on the DASH Diet - If I add an excercise regimine - Could I successfully be able to withaw from the Clonidine? I have bad Kidney Disease from a drug one doctor gave me that damaged my Kidneys - so my Blood Pressure has been really high. That's when another doctor put me on Clonidine.
Avatar m tn I not only have 104 fever with a bad dry cough, runny nose and sore throat but I am also getting major hypertension (waking up every 30 minutes with big twitches). Should I take the clonidine? (I filled the script) My doctor wanted to make sure my blood pressure didn't drop too much before I started taking it, should I do that first? Should I worry about addiction to clonidine? Any help is appreciated.
Avatar m tn are you taking it while you detox? did a doctor prescribe the clonidine?
Avatar f tn Discontinuing Clonidine can cause a rebound hypertension. Be sure your doc is aware you were on it, and how much you were taking.
Avatar n tn She takes Carvedilol, Diovan, Dilitiazem, and Clonidine. Her doctor even talked about putting her on a fifth medicine. I'm not a doctor, but it doesn't make sense to me for anyone to have that many different prescriptions for one problem.
198154 tn?1337787265 I know this is sort of an old post, but I see some new activity and it's a common topic for opiate withdrawals so I wanted to add one thing. Somebody mentioned fainting or blacking out or something. Basically since this medication is lowering your blood pressure, it can cause orthostatic hypotension - if you stand up too quickly, you don't get enough blood to your head and you can get dizzy or even pass out.
Avatar m tn I just wanted to see if anyone else has monitored their BP closely during withdrawal and could tell me around what day to expect it to go back down. I took a half 0.1mg Clonidine this afternoon and it brought my BP back down and my pulse up into the 90s. I mean, I like the idea of getting all ripped and in shape while I sleep with the speedy metabolism, but I'm thinking it can't be good for my heart to have to work so hard all the time. Any suggestions?
404682 tn?1324579818 ER sent me home told me to take a norvasc when I got home then to start taking it in the AM. Next morning I felt awful so my GP told me stop norvasc and started me on clonidine.1mg but take only if bp is above 140. I was fine all week and then today mid morning another spike... 170/100 I waited about half an hour for it to come down on it's own and then took half a clonidine.
656243 tn?1231288052 t have good health insurance and a standard physician prescribes their psychiatric medications which is not advisable. I am assuming you are seeing a psychiatrist and as for Clonidine and Effexor interacting I have not heard of that one but you should ask them to look it up. They all have a PDR and more importantly I know my psychopharmocologist has a palm pilot where he can look up any medications and see how they interact and has access to information that only a physician would.
Avatar f tn While the urine metanephrine test is a high sensitivity test for the diagnosis of Pheochromocytoma, the CT scan is used find the presence or absence of a mass and its size. The Clonidine suppression test is a method to find out the source of the metanephrines and to establish correlation between the size and the tumor characters. The CAT scan is also used in case surgery may be required. I hope this helped you a bit. you may also find more information at :http://www.pheochromocytoma.
Avatar f tn I take clonidine to help with my hypertension and also withdrawl symptoms. Now I also take 2mg xanax xr per day, and melatonin 5mg, to help me sleep. My clonidine are actually the .2 and I take them 3 times daily. Ive been on clonidine for almost a year and they do relax you a bit and but not sure about using just to sleep. You would have to just take them at night, because I know with atleast me when I take them as presicribed about every 5-6 hrs I dont get drowsy hardly at all.
3225128 tn?1347133998 Clonidine reduces your heart rate and blood pressure. That could be making you feel tired. Feeling low energy after acute withdrawal of opiates is also pretty normal. Some people feel anxious when they stop clonodine, as the heart rate increases and blood pressure goes back up. Call your prescribing doctor and ask if it would be okay to remove it, and if he says no, I'm sure they will explain why.
Avatar m tn For some reason the other meds I tried for my hypertension never really worked, but the clonidine did. I take .2mg/3times daily for my BP right now, I was taking the .1mg for about a year before getting bumped up. Usually people are prescribed the .1mgs to be taken 2-3times daily, now with that said you should call the prescibing doctor to find out his/her instructions.
Avatar n tn I am 6'1", 195 lb, 35 yrs. I take clonidine and lisinopril for high blood pressure. I take no other medications. I do not use drugs. I do not smoke. I do drink but not very much. I have taken up aerobic exercise, but I have had to discontinue it. Just a brisk walk for half an hour and my diastolic bp goes from 80 to 115. I get headaces. My eyes hurt. The level it reaches during exercise I don't want to think about.
